Casa Sylmar is a four bedroom four and a half bath direct Ocean Front Home, built right in the sand just steps from the waters edge. Providing daily maid service, sleeps up to fourteen people. Enjoy a delightful massage on your beach front terrace or relax in a hammock under the coconut palms.
From your living room, dining room, kitchen and terrace you will experience spectacular sunsets and stunning ocean and coastline views spanning more than seven miles with a beautiful back drop of the Guanacaste Mountain Range.
Casa Sylmar is said to be one of the most beautiful ocean front homes ever built in Costa Rica. Surrounded buy an abundance of coconut palms, almond trees, flowering hibiscus and banana trees. This two story Mediterranean style home has a unique style all of its own. All interior doors, window frames and cabinetry throughout are made from the finest Mahogany and other select woods from Costa Rica. All interior ceilings are pure white with double crown mouldings, creating a warm beach atmosphere with a touch of elegance. Hunter Ceiling Fans with remote control through out the entire house.

The moment you step from your terrace you are in the sand, surrounded by Coconut Palms and Almendro Trees, just steps from the waters edge. The beach in front of the house has a flat sand bottom, without a doubt the best section of beach in Playa Grande, great for swimming, great for kids and lots of shade.
Whether inside or out on the beach you will see perfect waves breaking a short distance to the left and right of the house where you will usually see some of the best surfers in Costa Rica enjoying our pristine waves.
We rent boogie boards and beginner surf boards which are covered with thick protective foam and have soft flexible rubberized fins for maximum safety, very beginner friendly. We offer free surf lessons. Great fun for everyone.
Just a 15 minute stroll down the beach is Playa Carbon, one of Costa Rica’s rare black sand beaches. On the way you will see a giant 50 foot rock that sits in the water close to shore just a short distance to the right of the house where you can play in the rock tide pools which are filled with many shells and small marine life. Good shoreline fishing at the rock.
Playa Grande is one of the few beaches in the world where Giant Leather Back Turtles weighing up to 1,800 pounds and up to 9 feet long come at night to nest and lay their eggs. Many nights these amazing prehistoric animals nest directly in front of our homes. (A Must See).
We highly recommended you to experience Local Bull Riding at the local Fiestas (Typical Parties). You will see bull riding like you have never seen before. It's like going back to the Old West, but Costa Rican Style. There are a wide variety of activities and day trips available in our region. We can help you arrange.
Private guided day trips to one of our favorite rivers to see Crocodiles, Macaw, Parrots, and a variety of Exotic Birds, Giant Iguanas, White Face, and Howler Monkeys and many other animals. The trip ends with a typical Costa Rican Lunch (Excellent Food). On your trip back, you will stop in the small town of Guaitil,
famous for hand made pottery, fired on site in a Tico Style clay wood burning ovens.
Playa Grande is conveniently located between the towns of Tamarindo and Flamingo. Tamarindo is just 20 minutes to the South by car or a 35 minute beach walk to the river mouth that separates us from Tamarindo. For about one dollar, a boat taxi will take you across the river.

We were there for 3 nights. What a great place to stay. You are right at the beach and the house is superbe. The staff was great and we will come back soon (for a longer stay). If you are looking for a quiet place and close to the beach, this is the place (no need to look somewhere else).
Recommended for:Sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

The website's photo of the beach from their lanai was exactly what my wife and I saw each day. You literally step off of their lanai and out the gate and you are on the beach! We live in Hawaii and our beaches are beautiful, but the beach at Playa Grande is just as beautiful, but there is way way less people and it is sooo big. We get up in the mornings and we are the only ones on that huge beach. On weekdays there may be a handful of other people, if at all. The Sunday before we left, there might have been 20 people on the 3 mile stretch immediately in front of Casa Sylmar. We boogey boarded a couple of times each day in water that was chest level; it was great! The place was very clean and well maintained; this includes the landscaping and the outside walls of the building. You can tell that the owners spared no expense when constructing Casa Sylmar when you see the rounded concrete wall edges and molding treatments. Miriam, the maid was super. She washed and folded our clothes when we needed them cleaned and fixed our room while we ate out in the lanai (wish we could have taken her back with us). Greg and Gabriela also arranged massages for us; I opted for 1-2 hours of a deep tissue massage, and my wife chose a softer, more relaxing massage. We did this for several days. We spent several hours reading and relaxing under the shade of the trees just outside of our room, or on the lanai. This was one truly relaxing vacation. Greg and Gabriela were also accessible whenever we needed them for a recommendation or instructions. They hooked us up with a tour along a crocodile river where we took a lot pictures including one with a white faced monkey on my head. We also enjoyed their recommendation of a hot spring resort in the mountains; the views were tropical and lush, and the hot pools were fabulous. It was so large and meandering, I even got lost. Another of Greg's recommendation was a Scotch whiskey called Old Parr that is extremely difficult to find in the states, but is very good and common in Central America; Old Parr Superior was the top scotch identified in the 2007 Whiskey Bible. We picked one up at the Liberia airport's Duty Free for $57; an on-line search found it going for $100+. Gabriela also taught us how to grill a chorizo tortilla sandwich with cole slaw that was super easy and tasty; and ordered a fish for us from a fish truck that passes once in a while (another renter ordered lobster). That was just part of our excellent vacation!

What a great view everyday, the beach is great for all ages, depending on how far out you want to go, the staff was great and if I had the time I would book 3 months. All of the drivers that were set up by the staff took care of us and were very friendly. If you are looking for a quite place to hang out which is very close to the best part of Playa Grande then I would suggest you pick this one.
