Location: Paris Arrondissement 2, Paris, Ile-de-France (Paris Area), France, Europe (Within walking distance to all major Parisian attractions) View Map

Accommodations:  Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath (Sleeps 2-4)

Live as a local, with all international comforts, in a newly renovated architect designed, 32 square metre apartment, plus 8 meter balcony, (Caroline Hentschel DPLG),smack bang in the centre of Paris, near new and trendy rue Montorgueil (For those of you who have read "Almost French"-by Australian author Sarah Turnbull- we've been unintentionally living the live version as a Franco-Australian couple in the same area of Paris).

Our apartment is easy to find being conveniently located within 1-3 minutes walking distance of 3 metro stations, including direct connection to Gare du Nord (Eurostar terminal) and also close to Chatelet/ Les Halles (direct connection to CDG airport) and a taxi rank is near by. There is even a bike and rickshaw place which has just opened up downstairs.

Once you arrive, you won't need to worry about transport because you can easily walk to the Louvres museum, the Georges Pompidou Center, the Marais area, Palais Royal and loads of Paris shopping bars and restaurants.

At the end of the day, it's easy to relax in our modern minimalistic light apartment, but still typically Parisian, with it's 18th century beams, which gives our (your) home a very cozy feeling. You've got all modern conveniences, highspeed internet (Apple G4) / free international phone to contact home, cable TV, DVD (all zones), etc (all listed below).

A feature is our garden balcony (with optional sail) where it is lovely to sit out and overlook all the roof tops of Paris with a nice glass of wine or with your "café et croissants" in the morning (we're on the 5th floor - no lift - easy daily workout, save money on gym pass!).

Upon arrival, Julien, Noella, or Vincent (who speak English!) will welcome you after your journey and be happy to answer any questions you may have. (They will then also "be there for you 24/7" during your entire visit, should you have any further questions).

73 has been a perfect home for us (Australian classical singer/ music theater director and French journalist/ doco maker) and all our international friends and family...we hope you'll enjoy it as much as we have!

Peace and Light in the Heart of Paris

Year Purchased: 1998

The Unique Benefits at this Apartment

Whilst we didn't purchase our Parisian home for a "vacation rental", it was bought as a home to live in; it is located right in the heart of Paris and within walking distance to all the major "tourist attractions"; for example, we are a 10 mins walk to the Louvres, 10 mins the other way to the Georges Pompidou Centre etc.
More interestingly though, for us, is that the current local hot spot for Parisians, Rue MONTORGUEIL, is only 3 mins away from our apartment. The Montorgueil street is a pedestrian street filled with cafes, restaurants, bars and specialty food shops. Fine local French cuisine. Need I say more?
This area is called Les Halles (or literally "The Halls") and was the original market place of Paris (back in Roman times and up until the 70s!). When the car was invented, the small cobble stone street got all congested and the commercial markets moved out of the centre, however the Les Halles area kept its flavor and many fromageries, patisseries, and French specialties can be found in this area (including the Patisserie Stohrer dating back to 1750).

Owner's Map of Paris Arrondissement 2

Franco-Australian couple, Elizabeth and Albert Lecoanet lived "the Parisian life" in 73 rue de clery 5 years together (13 years altogether for Albert) before they decided to do a total architect-designed renovation of the apartment in the summer of 2007, and move to New York City, and rent out their Paris home.

The simple reason why they kept and rented their apartment in Paris, is because they have lived such a great Parisian local life, that they wanted to share this unique experience with fellow travelers.

French born Albert is a TV journalist now working as a foreign correspondent for French TV in the USA. You may see him or his name on M6, France 2, Canal Plus, TF1, Arte or some of the cable channels. Albert is also a documentary filmmaker.

Elizabeth (Liz) was born in Australia (Brisbane!) and is a singer, music theatre director, a teacher and a massage and sound therapist. She directed 3 musicals whilst living in Paris including Les Miserables (in French of course!)

She also sang beautiful ancient music at the church St Eustache, just down the road from the apartment, where thanks to the rehearsal each week, she also learned to speak French. You can go and hear the Choir "Les Chanteurs de Saint Eustache" each Sunday morning at 11am, (free).

Today, Liz and Albert love, live and work in New York, and enjoy regular trips to France, Australia to visit their families and friends; and they also enjoy discovering America and other countries when the opportunities arise.

"Our apartment is for people who want to have a taste of what real life in Paris is like (except that we added all the "non-French conveniences" like air conditioning, free international phone,etc.!)."

We hope you'll love Paris in our home, as much as we did!

Welcome to Peace and Light in the Heart of Paris!

    • Dear Liz & Albert, Thank you for letting us stay in your charming home in Paris. It is a very cozy and comfortable place in the heart of Paris. The location is perfect with easy access to markets, cafes, metro and some of the most famous sights in Paris. My nephew really loved your place and wanted to stay longer or come back in the near future. Thanks again, Victoria, Inna, & Michael

      Homeowner Response:
Hi Victoria, Albert and I are really happy that our fellow "New Yorkers" (and your nephew!) loved our apartment. We'd be more than happy to share it with you again in the future. Thank you for the comment too. Warmest Regards, Liz et Albert

    Maureen & Barry ,
    • Many thanks for a fantastic visit to Paris! Your apartment is lovely and perfectly appointed. If we owned it ourselves we would not change a thing (OK, maybe some sort of pulley system to help get folks up the stairs after a long day--like the "j" bar at a ski resort). More importantly, thanks for all the personal touches including well thought out arrival instructions and neighborhood tips. We look forward to returning to "Peace and Light" (can never have enough of either, can you) on future visits to Paris.

      Homeowner Response:
Thank you so much Maureen. Albert and I are so glad you enjoyed the apartment (and happy we have the same taste in things!). Also, that's so funny about the "J" bar - when I used to carry the shopping home (why did I not get delivery?)... So, thank you again, and we would love to welcome you again to "peace and light" - and no, we can never have enough of these. Warmest Regards, Liz et Albert

    • Dear Liz and Albert, thank you so much for the use of your lovely apartment in the heart of Paris. The internet access was a luxury to be able to keep in contact with family and check up on Paris sightseeing information. Your advice on local restaurants and places to see was very helpful and having Rue Montorgueil right on your door step was wonderful for shopping for groceries or stopping at one of the many cafes or restaurants.

      Homeowner Response:
Dear Deborah and Alexa, Great to know... that our favourite restaurants are still fabulous. Thanks for your comment! Best Wishes, Liz et Albert

Thank you Sarah and Gabriel. We are happy you enjoyed the apartment and your stay. It is surprisingly quite for such a central area. I guess it is because it is high up. Best Wishes and thank you for your lovely comment, Liz et Albert

    • We enjoyed our month in Paris ever so much. It was all we hoped it would be. The apartment was perfect in every way. Even in October we enjoyed sunny breakfasts on the lush terrace. The apartment has everything one could imagine needing for a month stay in Paris. We really did look forward to coming "home" after a busy day of walking every where. It is perfectly situated to enjoy all that Paris has to offer and EAT! Thank you Liz and Albert for being so attentive and for giving us the peace of mind that you were only a phone call or email away. Hope to see you in Costa Rica. Con carino, Sissy and Peter Burke

      Homeowner Response:
Dear Sissy and Peter, We want to thank you both, for loving our home so much! It was such a pleasure for us to have you both stay; and we are delighted that our home really became your home too...Thank you for loving our garden too! Would love to see you in Costa Rica someday! • Merci beaucoup for a wonderful stay in Paris! Liz and Albert have a welcoming and comfortable flat w/ all the ammenities of home. The location is central, yet off the "touristy" path so you truly feel like a Parisien. We loved the local tips that you provided Liz, and enjoyed many special places/restaurants on your recommendations. The walk up the stairs isn't easy but manageable, and helped to work off all those delicious baguettes & wine we enjoyed! We hope to one day be back- thanks again!

      Homeowner Response:
"De rien!" Albert and I are delighted you loved the area and our favourite local restaurants. You are most welcome to come back anytime! Many thanks for your comment, Liz et Albert

    • You really are in the heart of Paris at Liz and Albert's place and they and Fred are wonderful hosts. Not only did they make booking and arriving easy but they also gave excellent advice for services in the area. Our two children (10 and 13) felt it was "our" home within minutes of arrival. You can easily pretend you're a local here - it's great to eat and shop on nearby rue M. I couldn't recommend this 'home away from home' highly enough to all, except those with difficulty climbing stairs. The apartment itself is quiet and clean. The air con unit perfect on warm nights and the facilities just perfect. Mind - the laundry machine takes hours, so plan to do one load per evening! Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer! Thanks again, Liz and Albert. You are lovely hosts.

      Homeowner Response:
Dear Joanne and the girls, we are so happy you all found a 'home away from home'. This is the biggest compliment that anyone could give us. Thank you. We hope you'll all be visiting us again before long. You were wonderful guests! Warmest Regards, Liz et Albert. (PS If you set the washer to "2" it gives a "quicker 45min cycle"..sorry, we didn't realise this earlier to tell you!)

    • Belated thanks for a great three day stay in Paris! The apartment was perfect and in such a great location for all we did. We really enjoyed strolling down Rue Montorgueil and bringing back pastries each morning. Easy to walk or metro to all the sights - thanks so much Liz and Albert for sharing!

      Homeowner Response:
You are all most welcome. Thank you. (although I am now craving a real French "pain au chocolat" from the patisserie!!)
