Awesome castle like dream house!
Awesome castle like dream house!
We had a wonderful time at this gorgeous property! Deer were prevalent on the property and within the area. The deer were so friendly that they came up to the front door and our children were able to actually feed them! We had an amazing time! The pool is absolutely stunning and the view is spectacular! Thank you for sharing your amazing home and your hospitality! Great owners! Unforgettable vacation, and we will be back! :)

Charming house, great rental experience
Charming house, great rental experience
This is an absolutely lovely home with a very eccentric, unique charm. Due to the layout, it is both very roomy and yet has quite a few good gathering areas for family togetherness. The house is in very good repair and the grounds are immaculate. Wildlife is abundant and accustomed to people, meaning you'll get some great views. The views from the main floor are stunning in looking over Texas Hill country. The pool area is beautiful and very relaxing. In all the home has a remote feel, very private, while also allowing easy access to area activities. Our checkin was a breeze and very informative. The owners were through in ensuring we enjoyed our time there. I would absolutely recommend this place.

In need of some TLC
In need of some TLC
The photos of this property were most likely taken many years ago as this house has aged quite a bit. It is in need of some serious TLC... fresh paint, deep cleaning especially in bathrooms, new kitchen utensils, ect. The house was clean upon first glance, but the bathrooms had dead and living bugs and mildew, especially on the shower heads. Rooms were dusty, and wooden porch is rotting. The outside area is beautiful and by far the best feature of the house. However, pool towels are not provided and the owners ask you to bring your own and not to use the bath towels. That seems a little ridiculous to try and fit a pool towel in your carry on! There are no lounge chairs or pool toys. We did find two floats, both with slow leaking holes. The house is very intresting and provided lots of "conversation pieces" but it is not functional. The kitchen cabinets do not have handles, making them hard to open and find things. The upstairs bathroom and shower doesn't have a door! Showering was very tricky and there is no privacy. The other bathroom upstairs was hard to get into and awkard as well. The spiral staircase leading downstairs were challenging to use and they are the only way to get downstairs. Taking large luggage down these are dangerous and difficult. These stairs are the only way to get to the pool from the inside of the house too. There are no lights outside on the walkway to the pool so it is dagerous at night to use the outdoor space. This house would be very unsafe for young children and seniors. The distance into San Antonio is accurate, about 45 min driving, not a bad drive. To accomadate hanging out in one room with our large group, we had to bring chairs in from outside and other rooms in the house. Most likely we would not stay in this property again, although the location is great. Many things to do, only a short drive away.

Owner response: Dear Guests--A bit of a shock to read this review--we've had nothing but positive feedback in 5 years! Very sorry this guest did not appreciate the house. However, many criticisms made in this review are not fact: house has been recently repainted, photos are not old, house is in good condition throughout and is thoroughly and professionally cleaned between guests, dishes and kitchen-ware are not worn or in need of replacement, there are pool lights, outdoor lights and solar lights around pool. So-called mold around shower head is merely black plastic that's a part of shower head! Spiral stair is not dangerous, and it is certainly not the only way to bring luggage to rooms or go out to pool. Possibly guest did not notice outdoor and pool light switches, or side doors? There's plenty of furniture and seating, as described and shown on website; perhaps guests had more people than permitted in house. Yes, one might see a bug now and then--this is the Texas Hill Country! We have regular pest control treatments, and bugs are not a problem. This home is a 3 story residence set into a hillside. We have stairs both inside and out, as we state clearly on website. The house is unique, artistic, architecturally interesting and fun--with numerous positive and specialfeatures. It has been a memorable and postive vacation experience for many families, friends and business groups. It may not be perfect for everyone, but over the last 5 years, many guests have loved it and told us so! Dear future guests, please read our other reviews! Susan and Val

Susan and Val - Thank you for renting your lovely home to us! We were 4 couples - old friends - who rented your home, and should have stayed longer! There was so much to do and enjoy! We'd like to come back in warmer weather when we could enjoy the pool and swim-through waterfall. Your property was spacious and decorated so nicely!

The photos do not do the property justice. We all had a wonderful time enjoying each other’s company in this beautiful haven. We are in the antique business and the attention to detail by the owners was astounding. Truly this was our own paradise and private resort. Thank you Val & Susan for many memorable moments.

Christmas Break Vacation
Christmas Break Vacation
Our family of myself and my husband, 5 adult children and 2 spouses, and 1 child stayed for a week after Christmas, 2010. We made arrangements very easily online, all my questions were answered rapidly. The description and pictures on the VRBO site were accurate. We had a great time and loved the house. We had taken family trips previously but had always stayed at motels. This was our first experience renting a home, but not our last. We only wish that we had visited at a time when the weather was warm enough to use the pool. The waterfall in the pool was beautiful. The owners were available by phone and took care of a minor issue immediately. We would definitely stay here again.

Our two families have been renting vacation homes since 1998 and by far this home was the most beautiful. The layout of the home allows for you to be together as a group or have separate private time. The photos give you a great idea of what is available, but the home can really only be fully appreciated once you are there. The crowning attraction of the property is the fabulous pool. It's location on the property was fantastic with shaded areas that we could enjoy it even in the heat of the day (we were here during the record heat wave). Rarely will find a rental home in a location that can offer you a tranquil setting, but only be five to ten minutes from restaurants, grocery stores, churches, etc. It is only a short drive to San Antonio, Blanco, San Marcos, and even San Padre is manageable for a day trip. Thanks to Susan and Val for sharing their property with us. Communications went very smoothly from inquiry to finish. They were always available by phone and email. Enjoy your vacation, you won't find a nicer home at such a reasonable price. * One Note would be to discuss with Susan smaller children or elderly with difficulty walking because of stairs and walkway to the pool. The home offers alternate routes to all areas which may accomodate.

This is a fabulous house! It is exactly as described and has everything you need for a wonderful vacation. The pool in the back yard was the perfect end to our days after visiting the many attractions all within 30 minutes of the house. If you choose to stay here you will not be disappointed!!

If you want to stay in a house that has the WOW factor but also has a great family feel to it then this is the house for you. The house is more than fully equippd with everything you need and more. When we arrived it became immediately obvious that the pictures had failed to do this home justice. From the beautiful gardens to the house itself everything was perfect. The kids loved the pool with swim thru waterfall and diving board and I loved the steam shower and jacuzzi tub. It was so peaceful and the views were for miles. Wanting to take the kids on a quick trip before school started we were fortunate to find your home. We were only 15 miles from our home but it felt like we were in another state. We look forward to our next visit!!
