My partner and I and our dog stayed at Casa Canon for the entire month July of 2011. What a great experience! The house is up near the top of a steep road that offers MUCH privacy. The house is really tastefully decorated, especially if you are into the modern look. Comfortable, and elegant. It was perfect for a couple, and with two bedrooms, it would be great for 2 couples or a couple and their two kids. The routine was great...wake up whenever in the upstairs master suite with light filtering through the rooftop sunlights, take a shower in the glass and stone bathtub (don't worry if it's chilly outside...heated stone floors in the upstairs and downstairs bathroom). Go downstairs and make a breakfast in a sleek, modern kitchen, and sit on the deck surrounded by tall Sequoias. If it is clear, you can see the ocean in the distance. If you're so inclined, take a 20-30 minute walk down to the private beach (or drive there in 2-3 minutes) and watch the surf. Come back up for lunch and maybe go for a hike on the trails above the house, or take a trip to Mendocino for dinner, or the Navarro River for some kayaking, or head to Point Arena, or Manchester State Park. Take a trip east to Anderson Valley for some wine tasting, and stop in Elk for an oceanview gourmet dinner. If you're looking for privacy, gorgeous scenery, easy beach access, and quiet solitude, this is really the retreat for you. The only con was that the satellite dish-based internet was brand new system, so it was spotty. This may be updated now. Owners were attentive to our needs. Overall a great place!Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

This place is really clean with modern conveniences and tasteful comfortable furnishings. It feels really private in that you don't see any neighbors and it is located on a private road. It is half of a duplex but it is designed so that you have complete privacy from the other half. Nice to have a king sized bed in the large master bedroom also. When we stayed it was very foggy and the views from the place are very dramatic and beautiful. Close to Point Arena where we had good pizza. We stayed 3 nights and did day trips to Mendocino and Fort Bragg with our toddler, and the drive up Highway 1 is quick. Owner is very easy to deal with, we made our reservation very last minute and all went very smoothly. We only regret not making time to visit the private beach, card key access comes with the place. I would recommend to my friends and family.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.
