Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful cabin with us! We really enjoyed our weekend getaway. This year especially seemed very hectic and stressful so your beautiful cabin was a much needed respite! We were able to rest, relax and spend some wonderful, quality time together sitting by the bon- fire, kayaking, fishing and hiking. It was wonderful sitting quietly together just enjoying being together. Your generosity in sharing your lovely cabin is truly appreciated! May you be bless abundently as you have blessed others. Your family in Christ!

Enjoyed time together as a family. Lovely Place! Great to step away from it all! We enjoyed good food together and great conversations. Boys were disappointed that they did not get that trophy trout, but ended up catching alot of fish at sunken lake and frying a few for dinner. Went on a kayaking trip as a family and loved exploring the pictured Rocks! Thankful for the beauty and the God who created it all!

Our Memories!

Dutch Fred lake Cabin has been a wonderfu place to stay! Visits to Grand marais, Munising, Pictured Rocks, and Seney Wildlife Refuge were nice!! Really enjoyed hiking the 12 mile beach at Pictured Roak and the sunset cruise showed us sights where that name comes from! Kayaking through Seney Refuge in the rain was a new experience we all enjoyed. Relaxing at the beach of Dutch Fred lake with a night full of stars hearing the loons on the lake is an awesome cabin memory we will all take home!! Thank you for everything!

We came here with our two children ages 2 and 4 to hear laughter, share bonfires, catch frogs, fish, hike, see the natural beauty that God has afforded us in plenty! We got all that and more! This place is truly a treasure. The quietness at night is remarkable. We loved "our" loons- it was our first experience- and we were very sad to hear only the quiet on our last eve as they had disappereared migrating already? We're not sure but they were a gift. We thank you for sharing this treasure in the woods. We take along with us wonderful thoughts, feelings, and feeling full of nature! I take a special thought that hit me on this trip- the word IMAGINE. It can mean so many things and I look forward to creating an even better future for our family! May God be with you- continue sharing this place!

We can't thank you enough for the very nice time we had at Dutch Fred lake! While here we did the Taquenomenon Falls, Shipwreck Museum, Painted Rock boat Ride, Locks at Sault Saint Marie into Canada to Chippewa Falls for a picnic, crossed the Mackinac Bridge. Then we canoed and swam and had a campfire, read stories aloud and roasted smores! Thank-you for a clean, well-stocked place! Oh- the water was appreciated! The Lord's blessings to you from Texas!

Wonderful vacation!

What a wonderfu vacation! Beautiful scenery, great friends, fun excersions, and lots of laughs! We entered the cabin at dusk- hard to see and for a while we thought the outhouse outside was our only relief- Oh how we laughed when we opened the door to the bathroom! We loved Pictured Rocks, Tahquamenon Falls, and the cool rocks at Grand marais Beach! But some of our best memories were made catching painted turtles, fishing, swimming in the middle of the lake. (The water is so clear) and hiking around the trails. We were surprised not to see any wildlife on the property, but we did see a bear on our way to Grand Marais. So Cool! Oswald's Bear Ranch was fun too! Thank you for sharing your gorgeous place with us- what a great relaxing week!

We had a very enjoyable honeymoon here, waching the sunsets on the lake, seeing the pair of sandhill cranes dancing in the fields and hearing a moose one day while we were fishing. I am hoping to surprise my parents here with a vacation as relaxing as ours soon.

Cabin experience

Guest: Benish Family.... Ohio
Date of Stay: 06/12/11 Review Submitted: 05/22/12

The solitude was wonderful! The cabin was clean and had everything we needed! We went fishing one day only and caught one yellow perch. We loved hiking round the cabin on the trails and went bird watching. We saw a bear crossing the cabin road on our way out to 77 one morning. There was a doe and her fawn at the lake, we joyed watching them. It was such a pleasure to hear the Wipp-poor-will every night and every morning! We always wanted to hear one. At Seney Refuge were able to see an American Bittern,Sira and Virgina Rails. That was a real treat to be so close to the Refuge. Loved the cabin, had a great time.

What an experience!

We loved staying in the cozy cabin on the perfect little lake. The first day, lots of frogs, their eyeballs sticking out of the water, and may turtles. Took the dingy out for a spin and we went fly fishing on the east branch of the Fox River. It was beautiful! We saw many birds, including a pair of cranes who stopped by the lake for a few mornings. A beautiful racket they make! We recommend the Dunes Restaurant in Grand Marais. I hope we come back soon.

Unforgettable Experience

Guest: Diane (Woodstock, IL)
Date of Stay: 08/14/09 Review Submitted: 07/30/10

Loved the cabin, loved the little lake (all to ourselves, most of the time) but the most amazing memory we will all have is the abundance and density of the STARS! If you go, call across the water & listen for the resounding echo...amazing. The absolute solitude and serenity was beyond what is described in the posting. The baskets and baskets of blueberries we picked were delicious. My 3 year old grandson had a blast, catching frogs, going kayaking with us and enjoying the warm water and the sandy shore. We made a memory - one that our whole family wants to repeat next year.

The drive in to the cabin was an adventure in itself and we loved the cabin when we got here. The guys went fishing the first night. I woke up to see a doe and 2 fawns across the lake. Did some more fishing and then drove into Sable lake for more fishing. We did some hiking and explored the beautiful area around the cabin. Went to Grand Marais and picked up rocks at the beach and then drove to Sable Falls. It was a great day! At night the sky was spectacular! You can see millions of stars including a clear view of the Milky Way from your cabin. While around the campfire, we heard a barred owl. My favorite sounds were that of our friend's 5 year old son, Logan, with his delightful joy and laughter as he fished and explored all the beautiful sights and critters of the woods and lake. Thanks for letting us share your little "peace" of Heaven! - Betsy F.

Beautiful cabin.... we were very impressed. We spent most of our time relaxing near the fire down by the lake. We enjoyed some hiking around the lake and a trip along the lake in the boat. My wife enjoyed the blueberry picking, filling up her basket for pies and muffins. We wish we could stay longer but its time to go.... Thanks for everything! Tim & Renae

Hi Dale: We had a great time at your wonderful getaway. White fish in Grand Marais was just starting and was very slow. Friday morning, at your lake, I went out by myself in our canoe. I was out in the middle of the lake and a hooked a big brook trout. He jumped out of the water and ran with my fishing line. He pulled me around turning the canoe around the lake. My net was not big enough to get him and the canoe was unstable. He was so big he broke the line. He was the biggest fish I ever caught. I wish I could have brought him home. Maybe next time. It was a great experience. We would like to rent the cottage next year at the same time if possible. We will keep in touch. Thank you very much for your hospitality. We had a very enjoyable time!!! Sorry for the delay in contacting you. I arrived home and it has been nonstop since. I need another vacation already. We loved the cabin. We spent two days at Pictured Rocks and one day at Seney Wildlife Refuge. We hiked about 12 miles over three days, but always got home in time for a campfire, except the one night it rained. We had a great time there. The colors were peak and spectacular. We got to see a juvenile loon, which made us all very excited. We also some grouse near the cabin along with countless deer.

I enjoyed the solitude and the wildlife at your camp. When we arrived, there was a doe swimming in the lake off the dock, something I'd never seen before, and we observed a number of wildlife during our stay. A pair of cute muskrats seemed to enjoy observing us, having moved in under the dock the second day and keeping pretty close to us during the week (one even followed me across the lake during a rowboat excursion). The kids enjoyed catching innumerable small perch, and I almost caught a brook trout in the stream in just two casts next to a beaverdam (it snagged itself free in the dam). Thanks for sharing your place and best wishes -- Chris Maryland

Dale, We had a great time at your cabin. The weather was good, although a little chilly at night. We didn't see any bears, just a few deer taking a dip in the lake, which was very neat to see. We left a few things in the fridge that we didn't want to waste, so hopefully you can make use of the items. Thanks for allowing us to rent your cabin. I will be sure to let anyone else who is going to the U.P. know that your cabin is available.

We had a very good time at the cabin. The weather was great and it was so good to be in the U.P. again. My grandma was a yooper, so I really enjoy pasties up there (although they are never as good as grandma used to make). The kids really enjoyed swimming, going out in the boat and going for short hikes. We caught a few trout. We saw a big black bear on the way out one evening and we are almost positive we saw a wolf as well (it was big and the tail was straight out when running, coyotes run with their tail down). It was a great time of enjoying good friends in beautiful nature!
