It was awesome. Could not have picked a better location. Our family (8 of us) enjoyed their time spent in Girdwood and the cabin was very centrally located. The thrid day we were there a bear walked past the window while my grandfather was eating breakfast. He is 90 and could not believe it. The only down fall is it is not handicap accessible (ramp would have been nice because of walker), but we made it work. Thanks for everything. I highly recommend this property.

Beautiful home in a beautiful setting!

We had the pleasure of attending a family wedding at the Inn at Whittier in Whittier, Alaska this June. Our choice home away from home was this beautiful "red house" as my four year old describes it to everyone. It was beautiful and our 12 person extended family fit perfect inside. The kitchen was roomy enough for a couple of cooks to show their talents. We did almost every meal at home for the eight day duration of our stay. The bathrooms were set nicely throughout the home and I might add, we never ran out of hot water. The bedrooms were equipt with king beds and lots of closet space if needed. We took advantage of the comfy sectional couch, big screen tv, pool table and hot tub for all. We enjoyed the beautiful scenery outside of the home and decoration inside of the home. We had the pleasure of sighting momma and baby moose and one black bear from the deck out back. This house truely helped make our family feel at home and made our trip to Alaska complete and full of memories that not a one of us will ever forget.

Fabulous family friendly getaway!

We rented the Echo Ridge Retreat for a friend's (surprise) 30th birthday and could not have been more pleased with the home. It was plenty big to accommodate a few different families as well as some singles. There was tons to do for all ages (we had from 6 months to 60) and the birthday girl was so pleased. All she could keep saying all weekend was "amazing!" - and I couldn't think of a better word to describe the home, the view, the experience if I tried. The owners were wonderful to work with, very responsive and helpful all throughout the process. We would rent this place again in a heartbeat!

Great house

We had a great stay. This is a great house and will accomodate a big group. House has a great kitchen which we used every night since Girdwood doesnt have much to offer for foodies. Skiing at Alyeska was wonderful. Great hot tube! We recommend the house, only drawback was no WiFi.

The home is excellent. My family had a wonderful time. The home is clean, spacious and accomodated 10 13 year old girls. It was quiet and calming, even with teenage girls. I'd recommend this home to anyone wishing to stay in beautiful Girdwood. The photos don't do the property justice. It was more beautiful than displayed on the web site.

Definitely need 4 wheel type drive to access facility during winter. Beautiful house with lots of room for family. Would recommend. Great location for skiing both downhill and cross country.

Great house for multi-family gathering

The house was great for our group (four couples, plus kids) with a perfect layout so everyone had their own space if needed. The downstairs den was perfect for the kids to play and for the adults, too (pool table, hot tub). The upstairs master bathroom was beautiful with a tub that I wish I got to use! It's picture perfect. The kitchen has a nice layout with room for multiple people to cook/prep together. Overall, it's a great place. I would recommend this house to a large group/family gathering. The owners were very personable and responsive. We forgot some jewelry at the house and the day we left we received a call from them to let us know. They held the jewelry for us so we could get it returned safely and conveniently.

Great Stay!

We absolutely loved our stay in this home. While we had planned on skiing for the weekend, we ended up just staying in because the house was so beautiful, luxurious, warm and comfortable. Plenty to stay busy with the pool table, warm fire and jacuzzi. I would definitely recommend this home to anyone looking to get away to Girdwood.

Better than we expected!

This was a great house! The pictures did not do it justice. We had several families together and every age loved it. Grandparents had the huge master suite with the awesome bathroom, teenagers loved the pool table, little kids loved the Wi, and everyone loved the entire house. We will definately recommend this house to others and we will be back. Loved it!

Actually my stay was in 2008 I Believe. Sorry never thought to write a review. Property was as gorgeous as it was peaceful!!! Plenty of room for my extended family and children in town for my cousins wedding. What I loved the most??? ALL of it! The bottom floor entertainment area, complete with bar, fireplace,jacuzzi, wine room (in the works), the decks were beautiful and the views breathtaking!! Totally worth the price for the week long visit. Sleeping 12 of us felt very comfortable and spacious! RECOMMEND HIGHLY if you are ever in town!

Great Week at This Summer Retreat

We rented this house for a week to celebrate my dad's 80th birthday - and was super pleased to have such wonderful accomodations. The main level of the house was perfect for those that want (or need) to live on one level. Having elderly parents the front had easy access - and having bedrooms/kitchen/bathroom/porch all on the primary living area was a major benefit. Although, the kids found the lower level a perfect place to hang out with pool table/tv/huge couch. And finally the upstairs master bedroom had a surprisingly wonderful bathroom. But by far the best part of the house - is the views of mountains - they are worth a million dollars!

March 18, 2011 I almost feel unworthy staying in this much luxury. We were supposed to be a party of 9 but some issues arose and we ended up the only part of the entourage to show up. My wife and the three kids enjoyed three days of relaxation. At least as much relaxation as one could get with a 5, 4, and 1 year old. My 4 year old daughter loves animals and thought this house was a museum for animals. She fell asleep last night giving a hug to the bear carpet upstairs. Awesome! The kids had a great time skiing but the snow was hard, no new snow. The hot tub is nice though. Everything worked out great. Thanks again, Chris, Audra, Ian, Ella and little Nora.

There were 4 couples who agreed to rent this home for a weekend getaway. The reason we chose this particular rental was for the hot tub. When we arrived everything in the home was beautifully built and spacious after we had removed all the snow from the porches and decks. We first decide to build a fire but could not do so due to the amount of collected ashes in the fireplace, so we cleaned the fireplace. It was time to heat up some bread in the oven for the chili we brought however the stove had not ever been cleaned from the last 10 users so the stove had to be cleaned up. The master bedroom is very large but the TV described for this room was missing. The TV for one of the guest rooms also did not work at all. So after all the cleaning we were exhausted and wanted a nice dip in the hot tub.. well we pulled back the cover and it looked like the 6 inches of filthy frozen water wasn't going to work so we decided enough was enough and called the Owner who said that he forgot to tell us about the TVs, and the hot tub and was sorry for the fireplace and stove not being cleaned. He was going to try and get it fixed before we got there but just didn't seem to find the time. He said he would come up with a solution to our situation and call us back. He did not. We contacted him and refused to agree to our requests for compensation. I hope that whoever decides to rent this house gets a written contract that the house is clean, tv's are available and the hot tub is working. I have rented from VRBO properties for over 10 years and have never been disappointed like I have been with this one. I would be writing a glowing recommendation for this property if the owner would have taken a little pride in his rental and was honest with us. We were looking to find a house that we could rent every year in Girdwood, it looks like we have to keep looking. Your listing promises many things that your house does not provide. We are not looking for compensation we would like for future renters to know what they are getting into.

Owner response: We are truly sorry that the renters were not satisfied with their visit to our home in Girdwood. The changes to the home have been addressed on our website. So many wonderful families have stayed with us since 2007 that it's disheartening to have this one negative review on our site. The hot tub has been repaired and several families have stayed with us this winter. The home is immaculate and well cared for. It is always clean and welcoming to our visitors. Come enjoy Girdwood in this custom built home with spectacular views.

January 30, 2010 We had the pleasure in staying at this beautiful home for two days. That’s right, 9 of us slept comfortably here and we still had plenty of room. We would have had to stay a week to be able to enjoy the entire house. This place is worth the money, for sure. It was our friend Holly’s birthday, so we decided to drive down here from Wasilla and relax for the weekend. Mission accomplished. We took the tram up to the Seven Glaciers and had a very delicious dinner, then came back and enjoyed the pool table and hot tub. We will recommend this place to our friends, for sure. July 29, 2009 Our family traveled to Girdwood for our cousin Jen’s wedding and loved spending the week in your home. It was the perfect place for our large extended family to celebrate. We spent the week hiking, panning for gold and cruising past glaciers. It was a great vacation for a family that travelled from New York, New Jersey, Florida and England. Thank you! March 17 – 24, 2008 Our annual trip was to Alaska this year. What great luck we had. A fantastic house with amazing views and an incredible set of powder days and nights followed by bluebird days stacked together. March 1 – 8, 2008 Great times at the house and on the slopes! We had 76 inches of new snow in the last 4 days making this a record for our ski group. New Year’s 2008 Long days on the slopes and late nights in the hot tub equaled a fantastic 4-day weekend. We made friends with our neighbors and learned that the deck will always win. We would love to make it a yearly tradition as it is a perfect place for friends to congregate! Maya, Eva, Chris, Genevieve, Alyssa, Josh, JB , Scott, and Kirill. Thank you! P.S. December 26 – 28, 2007 We enjoyed our ski vacation at your new chalet. The rooms are great with wonderful amenities in each room. The kitchen and family area offer a place for everyone to spread out. The basement game and TV room received a lot of attention from the grandchildren. We will recommend your place to any who ask.
