Caldera (hot place) is the name given to Santorini’s spectacular volcano and the mountain views from it’s summits. Imeroviglie and particularly Malteza square is exactly the highest spot on the entire Caldera and has it’s most commanding views from a height of 862m almost 3000ft above the water. This over 400 year old cave house with rounded 4m ceilings is located exactly at the peak! It looks directly down on the center of Mount Skaros the world famous symbol and landmark of Santorini.
This property is not a hotel, but rather one of the last large private homes leaft in Imeroviglie. This house is offered by a private collector of homes in exquisite locations around the world.
The property literally borders the renown Malteza Hotel and it is across the path from the heavily turisted Malteza Church with large parking lots which are rare in Santorini.
It’s separated from public pathways, stairways (where tourists gather) and parking lots by a large gated wall witch is located at the end of a dead-end pathway with no thought traffic. True privacy!
This landmark does not mearly mimic traditional Cyclades architecture in a slavish cartoon like miniaturization (as many caldera properties claims to do) instead it has been from it’s creation the essence and the embodiment of that style.
It can be rented as one integral whole or as one of 3 different apartments with complete privacy. The two main apartments are separated by walls 1,5m thick while the small “eagles nest” cottage is on a completely separated level 10m (33ft above). The three segments share 5 large terraces each with dramatic commanding views of the entire caldera from every inch.
The “vineyard” terrace is 80ft wide and extensively furnished, while the highest “Jacuzzi” terrace is 10m (30 ft) highest is almost as large and contains the largest pre-fabricated Jacuzzi on the caldera it has heat dual “moto massage” and accommodates up to 8 people. Sunsets with champagne from this acme are unmatched. It’s the largest HOTSPRINGS model is not normally exported from the US. Every apartment hasa private kitchen and bath and has a total of 5 bedrooms and 4 baths in the house, it can sleep up to 15 people.
It is equipped with contemporary amenities but entirely furnished with genuine centuries old antiques many of them hand carved. Some of the beds are artist created sculptures and the candle chandelier apparatuses augment the ordinary contemporary lighting system. There are a total of more 200 linear feet of balconies and decking ornamented by a genuine living grape arbor.
The village of Imeroviglie has many restaurants, hotels, convenience stores, boutiques and supermarkets but as far as I know this is one of the last private houses still in existence on the main staircase.
Tour groups gather hourly particularly on the hill side stair case where this property is located because everyone knows that the views found here are the finest of all Santorini and indeed the whole Cyclades.
On a clear day 18 to 20 islands can be viewed from these terraces and the spectacular hiking path to Mount Skaros begins a few yards from the entrance.
Each of the main segments are available for rental from 1500 Euros per week (from May to October) or 2500 Euros for both with complete privacy. Prices are lower in the off season. Bonus days and discounts are available for longer stays.
The smaller “eagles nest” honey moon cottage, with private terrace above, ranges from 120 Euros to 200 Euros daily depending on season. There’s no extra charge for 2nd or 3rd persons in this accommodation.
The closest beach and boat harbor is 2km, just over a mile away, at Vourvoulos and a medieval street and staircase runs along the summits of the caldera and connects Imeroviglie with the center of the capital Thira with its museums, boutiques, handcrafts, night clubs, and dance clubs. At is based connecting cable car reaches the ship port and it’s cruise ships.
The house has cable TV, dishwasher and washing machine. Maid service and concierge are often available for an extra fee if arranged substantially in advance.
