We were all in serious need of a real getaway and the log cabin was just the right place. Diane's home is just that a true home away from home. It is rural with wildlife, a beautiful creek and nice amenities. Inside the log cabin it is so comfortable and clean with everything thing described in a book on the counter of what to do around the house, how to get to Grass Valley and so on which was very helpful for us. It is truly a laid back , feel good place to be. Diane takes true pride in her log cabin and it shows. So go and enjoy a VERY relaxing time in this beautiful place. Thanks again Diane.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway.

Great house! Very clean, quiet and comfy, great place to sit out back and read. We went with our daughter, a teenage girl, but if I had young sons this would be the place to be with creeks, rope swings and frogs oh my! It's a bit of a drive to town over a very curvey road, but a beautiful drive! Just watch out for deer, they were on the sides of the road, middle of the road and it felt like they were just waiting to jump out in front of the car! Drive slow!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our weekend at the Log House was fantastic. It was everything we expected from the ad and more! Everything was clean and well maintained and the owner was very helpful in answering any questions. We were in the area to visit a friend but the scenery and surroundings are great for anyone planning a trip to this area. I would definitely recommend the property and I hope we can go back for another visit!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

What a relaxing atmosphere! The loghouse was spacious, clean and cozy. My son woke every morning before every one else to play near the creek or just peruse the books in the comfy loft. The spacious and rustic dining table was the center of many easy conversations over wine or a bowl of cereal. I highly recommend loghouse. Thanks Diane for sharing this goldmine.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This log cabin was great, just as the owner had described it and very nicely kept. The cabin was extremely comfortable, had all the amenities we needed; in fact I had asked about a crock pot and the Owner made sure there was one for us to use (so we had 2 and we needed both of them). I have 3 boys (14, 11 and 9) and they loved the ping pong and the creek with the swing. That's all they could talk about was going in the creek. We have already discussed another trip next year because our trip was too short this year. This place will not disappoint you!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway.

This house is very nice. Clean, very well-equipped, and comfortable. The setting is pretty, with a running creek out back, and it is close (driving distance) to the very pretty Bear River. We had five adults, and there was plenty of room, although there are only two bathrooms, which might be a challenge with more people. The ping pong table in the rec room was a plus. The information provided by the owner was very helpful, about sites to see, etc. I would strongly recommend eating at Diego's in Grass Valley -- a really great restaurant. I would definitely recommend this property.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners.

The cabin was as beautiful as it was descriped. Everything that was promised was there. My family enjoyed our time there especially the kids. They love the ping pong table, jacuzzi, and the creek. For me, I fell inlove with the tub in the master bedroom. It was my relaxing spot away from all the noise. Thank you for a great time.Recommended for: Families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

Very, very nice. Exactly as advertised. Only wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy amenities. We were here for two nights with elderly parents and two busy bridemaids. Three of us were musicians that brought in instruments and had a practice jam. This home worked for all of that. Basement room looked great for kids with lots of room and ping pong table. Only issue might be sleeping down there with slight musty odor for those sensitive to that. Was absolutely NOT an issue in the rest of this clean, very lovely home. We would stay again!Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway.
Owner response: I love having multi-generational groups in my home. With bedrooms and a full bath on both floors, it is comfortable for everyone. I am pleased to know that this family enjoyed their stay. Many groups come who use my house for their "base camp" for a wedding. It seems to work perfectly. The rec room in the basement is a bright room with two walls above ground with a large south facing window. It is cool down there because of the two walls that are below ground. I think that might be giving the effect of "musty", but will check this out and super clean accordingly. Thanks for the feedback! It is always appreciated.

The property was very nice and comfortable, all the amenities were as stated in the description. The only slight disturbance was the neighbors were either mowing their lawns, or doing construction both Sat. and Sunday when we were there.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners.
Owner response: My neighbors and I have owned our properties for more than 20 years and are all super conscientious about the care and maintenance of them. I am happy to own in such a wonderful neighborhood where the homes are maintained with so much care.

Plenty of room for 2 families. We'd like to come in the winter and enjoy what it has to bring during the cold months. We loved the creek and hammocks! We had a lovely stay at the log house. The home is beautiful and very well stocked with all the amenities you could ask for. The home was clean and you can tell it is well taken care of . Plenty of room for our party of 6 with 1 dog. The property was perfect for the dog too as it was all fenced in and had plenty of room for him to roam. We all really enjoyed the creek, with the swimming hole, the water is clear and quite refreshing, very nice on a hot afternoon, also enjoyed the frog chorus in the evenings. We wish we had a longer stay. Will definately come back to this house again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway.

We had a terrific week long stay in this wonderful log cabin. The house is quite large, three large bedrooms plus plenty of extra spaces. And very comfortable. The property is beautiful, particularly the creek. And lots of nice amentities, like hammocks, comfy chairs, a hot tub, outdoor gas grill, etc. The house is also well set up with essentials like cookware, paper towels, shampoo, etc. Bring some food and drinks and you're all set! I'll gladly go back again.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Looking for a change of pace, weather and scenery. Found it...a lovely location in Grass Valley. Six of us, ranging in age from 9 to almost 96, enjoyed an Easter weekend at the log house. We were happy to find daffodils and trees in bloom. A large yard with a stream running through made a 9-year old and two dogs very happy. We dyed Easter eggs at the picnic table out on the lawn. We sat on the deck and watched Wood Ducks in the creek. We hiked along the creek to see the wild turkeys and many photos were taken. Soaking in the spa under the stars was a treat. Naps were taken in the comfortable hammocks. The rope swing got a lot of use. The house is very comfortable and welcoming. We appreciated the large dining table for meals and games. Diane is most accomodating and kindly mailed us the coats we thought we might need, but left in the closet there. Of course, we would have loved to have stayed longer. Thanks Diane. Hope to be back soon.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

What a beautiful spot! We loved sitting by Wolf Creek in the back yard, playing ping pong in the basement, and the spa was a great way to end the day. The wood stove lept the house toasty warm and the kitchen had everything we needed. It was our first trip to the area and the owner provided us with more than enough information to plan our days. She also had a great collection of maps and brochures at the house. We loved visiting the covered bridge and fly fishing and gold panning on the Yuba River. We even saw a bald eagle! And you can't leave Grass Valley without trying a pastie from Marshall's...yum! We highly recommend a stay at the log house.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We loved this property. It was a true log cabin with all the modern amenities. Spacious, 3 bedrooms, with a perfect master bedroom reading area that let's in the morning sun - perfect for a long read and a good cup of coffee. The kids loved the hammocks and the rope swing across the stream that runs through the back of the property. We even found a tree house platform deep into the woods that reminded us of our youth. Diane was a gracious owner and very accommodating to our tight schedules over a busy holiday weekend. Thanks for everything - it was just what our family needed.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway.

Our family has stayed in the log house 3 times over the last few years and it has always been a wonderful experience. The house is so well kept and cozy! There is a lot to do in the area and we have really enjoyed the hiking, shopping, dining, and exploring. We travel quite often and like to rent houses as an alternative to staying in a hotel with our family and we have found this house to be extremely well stocked and very comfortable. The homeowner has a complete kitchen, games, and movies for you to enjoy which is wonderful because the house is so cozy you won't really want to leave. Our son even chose this house as the place to spend his 16th birthday because of the wonderful memories we have here! Thank you to Diane for keeping such a wonderful place to visit.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners.

We chose this property because of the location, the stream, the hot tub, as well as how the house looked in the photos. We found everything we were looking for and more! Photos were accurate, and we found house even better in person. We really appreciated the specialness of the log construction and the attention to detail...lovely window placement, sweet reading loft...more. [Note: The property is in a residential area - the backyard leads down to the stream and there is open land on the other side of the creek, but there are neighbors on both sides of the house]. Though we really enjoyed getting out to the beautiful places in the area - along the Yuba River, up to the lake country near Sierra City, hiking various trails - for us a big part of what we are looking for in the one week we have to get away, is a comfortable space to spend time in and relax. Satellite TV and wireless internet really work for us, as does a daily soak in a hot tub.We like to stock up and cook in, and the kitchen and country style dining table worked great for us (We did stumble upon the India Oven in Grass Valley. If you like Indian food, they had a great buffet, served Fri - Sun). It was only two of us, and we loved having space to spread out, but it would be a great place for a family or group of friends. We had a fun evening of ping pong in the game room. For me, however, the most special by far was the stillness in the early mornings and the gentle sound of the stream running through the night. Diane obviously cares for her property and takes care of those who come to share it. We appreciated it and all of her help! We would highly recommend the house to others...and definitely hope to return in the future.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: It is my intention that all my guests have a comfortable and enjoyable stay in my vacation rental homes. This log house was our family home and I love it and I love sharing it with others. I have set it up so that it is a comfortable place for a vacation or just a weekend away from the city! I hope I will have happy and satisfied guests for many years to come. Thank you all!

From the mouth of a seventeen year old who missed all his friends - in the beginning. Our stay at the log house was the best because there was so much for all of us to do even if we never left the property. Having the swimming hole, rope swing etc was made for our adventurous grandsons. The beds were comfy and we had privacy inside the pleasant bedrooms. The only quirk was the road construction on Rt 49 but that's California in the summer. Got to get it done before the snow flies. Surrounding Gold Country was barely explored because there was so much to see. We'll be back!Recommended for: Families with teenagers
Owner response: This house comes with much of its own charm - the fact that is a log house, the expansive decks, the creek, the swimming hole, the hiking trails, the big back yard, wild turkey and deer wandering through, the moon rising over the hill behind the house. Add to these gifts, the hammocks, the rope swings, the SPA, the jacuzzi bathtub, the rec room, ping pong, numerous games, books and videos, the BBQ, the sand beach..... This is one great house in which to vacation! Enjoy!

My wife and I and eight of our closest friends used this house as "base camp" for a weekend when we we had our wedding at Empire Mine State Park in Grass Valley. The place had plenty of room for everyone and a great big kitchen for us to cook breakfast in. Unfortunately, my wife and I were so busy with the wedding that we didn't have time to enjoy the hot tub, the beautiful creek in back, or the ping pong table in the basement. Our friends had a great time sitting by the creek and swimming in it. Overall, this is a beautiful and roomy place to stay for those who are willing to drive 15-20 minutes to Grass Valley and there are plenty of fun things to do right at the cabin.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, sightseeing.

Diane went out of her way to accommodate our extended stay. Thanks to her, we were able to keep our family together during a temporary military assignment. The furnished log house had all the amenities that we could ever need and more. Diane had a genuine concern for our comfort and her customer service was outstanding. When one of the hammocks broke in the backyard, she quickly replaced it even though it was not a serious issue for our family. Her beautiful and quiet Alta Sierra log house provide us with the perfect home away from home.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you Kristina and Tyson for this glowing review. It was a genuine pleasure meeting you and your children and an even bigger pleasure having you at my log home for the 2 1/2 months that you were staying in the Grass Valley area. You kept my home in excellent condition and left it in excellent condition. You would be welcome back at any time.

My friends and I had an incredible weekend at the log home for a special occasion. The first night, we played ping pong late into the night and had the best time. All the amenities were in order: lots of towels, great kitchen, clean hot tub (that gets HOT if you like it that way), great deck, and a beautiful backyard next to the creek. Lots of notes to let us know how certain things in the house work, etc. -- this was all a good representation of the thoughtfulness that these owners put into their rental. Highly recommend.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Mujeres Ayudando la Raza Spent the weekend there and we had a Blast. The cabin was clean with plenty of room for 7 people and more. There is a map of trails you can go on. Jane and Diane are great!! They have two dogs who are amazing and will go with you on the trails to lead the way. The deck has plenty of room with a BBQ grill. I would recommend this cabin to anyone who wants to have a good time and likes being out in nature. It is a great place to stay you won't regret it!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, sightseeing.
Owner response: Actually, this review is for my other vacation rental house. I didn't realize that the guest had sent it connected to the link for my log house and not my Gold Run Mountain House. I am trying to get this moved to the proper place but am told that it can only be moved by the person who sent it. It is a great review of my property http://www.vrbo.com/140231 not http://www.vrbo.com/140245, So pleased to have happy guests. It is my intention that all my guests have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The trails are an added adventure if you are inclined to hike. The trail head for the Pickering Bar trail is about 100 feet from the end of my driveway. It is a 2 mile hike to the American River. There is a gorgeous rock outcropping where you can stop to rest along the way that allows you spectacular views of the American River Canyon. The river is a great place for a picnic, a dip in the pools, a photographic experience and more. ....or you can go down the other part of the trail to an old gold mining area - also with fabulous views, a pond, a very cool tunnel, an old miner's cabin, a waterfall (in spring).... The spa on the deck and the hammocks allow for wonderful relaxation after a day of hiking. We enjoy having guests out here. We are available if you have questions, but are very conscientious about allowing you all the privacy you want. This property is in a very quiet and private location. Please enjoy your stay and come again!

The house was extremely nice, open, inviting, clean, well maintained, and had plenty of room for two full families. The kitchen had everything we needed. The dining room table seated the 7 of us easily. The furniture in the house was very nice and attractive, and yet sturdy enough we weren't concerned about our kids harming any of it. The owner was wonderful and helpful and made sure the place was well stocked with everything we would want and then some. The location was fantastic. It was close to Grass Valley where we enjoyed visiting the Empire Mine State Park, found plenty of decent food to eat, and a good size grocery store too. The stream out back was lovely and inviting and the kids spent a lot of time in it and panning for gold. It was a fantastic way to spend our spring break. Well worth the money.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

Wonderful! Wonderful! Just spent 5 great days in this lovely, comfortable, family friendly home. Stayed in more than we planned because it so comfortable and relaxing. Our little dogs frolicked in the backyard, played in the creek, chased wild turkeys over the fence. (Opps sorry to offend any wildlife people all are fine) Deer in front yard 2 mornings, Doe and 2 fawn wandering thru... to the creek to drink. This is not a real seclueded home but... you would not know there are neighbors. Water low but there sure were fish, we were so relaxed and happy. We just came back from this lovely cabin. It was 20 mins away from Auburn (the meeting place for our Middle Fork rafting tour). And after a long day of paddling, it's nice to get onto the hammock, listen to the sound of the creek, and fall asleep! And the creek was awsome, our little pug had so much fun there he refused to go back to the cabin with us! We tried to pan for gold at the creek, didn't strike it rich this time, we'll try again if we go back to this area in the future.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had a great time at this log home in Grass Valley (3-16 to 3-20). Our three kids had a lot of fun playing at the stream, and two of them even dunked in one warm day (on purpose)! We just returned from a wonderful weekend at this home.( 9/28 to 9/30 ) This home is lovely and very peaceful. My twenty-one year old grandson wanted to disassemble the house and take it back to Nevada with us....=) The house is spacious and cozy all at the same time. There were eight in our party and there was plenty of room for us all. We had eighteen people in the house for dinner on Friday night ( part of a wedding party ) and there was plenty of room for us all to eat and enjoy ourselves. The wood stove worked great and gave the house a very cozy feeling. The kids and grandkids really enjoyed it. Thank you Diane for a very nice place to stay.Did you find this review helpful? I had a chance to visit this lovely home and fell in love immediately. I've always loved log homes but this one was so much more handsome than I imagined. The site is pleasing because the house is nice and big but the trees around the house are natural. These trees weren't planted by a landscape architect. The setting is so natural, relaxing, home-like. "It was like going home but, but . . . to no place I'd ever been to before." (This is a quote from one of my favorite movies of all-time "Sleepless in Seattle" Anyway, I'm so glad I have been to this dream home. I am looking forward to returning there time and time again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We just got back tonight from a wonderful weekend in Grass Valley for a friend's wedding. We stayed in the log cabin house with 6 people the first night, and 10 the next. The house is very spacious and wide open and also very clean! It was a perfect fit for what we needed. Thanks for everything!!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I had just spent my birthday in this beautiful log cabin vacation home on 10 acres with your own private swimming hole, the home was spotlessly clean and the good thing was that the jecuzzi tub really works,we had great time,if you want peace and quiet this is the place. The stream in the back of the house was the best place to relax and the water clean and clear,we had the best time ever. Thank You so much Diane for letting us enjoy your wonderful property. sincerly, The Young Family Sept.14, 2007Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I have had the express pleasure of not only being a long-term guest of the owners of this beautiful log cabin; but I was there when the family, relatives and friends spent weekends up threre, building the log cabin. I always enjoyed a fun and tranquil environment, as a guest of the owners. I love the family that own and built this beautiful home!! It was built with love! :-) From Morgan With LoveDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Hi...I'm the owner and I have just had the pleasure of having my first guests this last weekend. I only recently listed my house on vrbo and I look forward to having many guests who enjoy their stay as much as the first ones have. Sincerely, Diane StevensonDid you find this review helpful?
