My friend Liz and I had a wonderful, relaxing two days away from the hectic life style in AZ. Not being a beach person this has changed my mind and just reinforced Liz's love of the ocean and its beauty. Perry and Carolyn made us feel like they have known us forever. Could not have asked for more perfect accomadations and amenities. El Pargo Rojo restaurante was super and prices great. Casa Blanca was good for breakfast also. Took bus into Old Kino and had great day there with the locals. Found some interesting things, i.e. shells, sea life, on the beach as well as a varity of birds, even a crane fishing in the surf at midnight. Would love to return another day maybe in the winter. Highly recommend this paridise to all. AJ and Liz

Words cannot fully describe the location, setting, or beauty of the area of Kino Bay. The accomodations were superb, and Carolyn and Perry are the most friendly hosts! I will return again for sure, and 1-week is not enough time! Thank you for such a comfortable place to lie my head. Highly recommend this place to others, many things to do, or just sit in the sun on the patio or beach and enjoy. Local people are all very friendly, good food, stores have everything you need. A car may be nice for traveling to Kino Viejo, otherwise walking, biking will get you around Kino Nuevo. We felt very safe here, and enjoyed the experience.

Owner response: Thank you sooo much for the wonderful review. It's a joy to have great guests who appreciate Kino Bay as much as we do!

My husband and I rented both the Tortuga and Pelican rentals and absolutely loved them both.... We'd planned a weekend getaway away from the crowds with our two little ones (8 months & 2yrs), our 10 yr old godson, and 2 granmama's... We all had a blast. The property was super clean, the rooms impeccable, plenty of towels and linens in each room. There was a small electrical burner in the tortuga for a quick breakfast. The kitchen in the Pelican was beautiful and ready for our family gathering at meals... Each of the rooms were equipped with TV's and DVD players.... and huge selection of movies..... We'd sit out on the balcony to have our family meals and relax.... The views from the balcony and from each of the rooms were absolutely spectacular.....no restaurant or hotel could have beat this.... The decor was in each of the rooms and around the home was gorgeous... tremendous attention to detail to say the least... the beds and sitting areas very clean and comfortable....the property owners were friendly and helpful and respected our privacy.... it almost felt like they weren’t even there... Maps and local info were printed out and left in each of the rooms. Beach Toys, kites, and kayaks were available to us for use.... We absolutely loved everything about this place!!!!! This is great for any family looking for a quiet and serene getaway... away from the crowds.... beautiful clean sand and swimming conditions....and a wonderful time!!! I know we'll be staying here again!!! BTW: If you're afraid to drive into mexico, dont be... although there's tons of construction in Hermosillo, the property owners made sure to provide us with up to date, safe, directions to help us get to kino with ease!!!

We rented both studios of Casa De Tortuga. They were everything and more. We were a little nervous about committing to our plans to go during Hurricane Jimena, But Carolyn was great about keeping in contact with us and keeping us up to date on the local weather. The first day we had a private beach. And the other days very few people. I think we over packed (in case of weather changes). But we had more than enough towels, bedding, pots, pans, a grill. Movies. Great AC, Purified water.Security. The different levels are gated with your own key to come and go as you please. Owners live on the same property, but are in no way intrusive. Instead they are helpful and great for advice and information. This is a perfect place to go if you don't want an itenerary. Or the worry of I need to get in all the great sites. I do suggest you drive 10 minutes into Kino Viejo (old kino) and do some local shopping. Go on a boat ride. You can not get lost. Explore a little. You will surprise yourself and just Relax. Also the directions Carolyn links you to are right on. Her advice about tipping and where to turn, what to look for. If you have never driven into Mexico Please do not feel intimidated. All we were asked for was our vehicles registration and ID. Passing the tolls is easy and they have the signs translated into English. Enjoy!

We referred to the Pelican Studio as our Penthouse, being the upper level of our hosts' beautiful beach home with amazing views of the ocean. The care put into the creative design and decorating of the Pelican should be appreciated by anyone who is fortunate enough to enjoy a visit here. It was exciting to see dolphins and fun watching the pelicans diving for food. We had views of the ocean from every location in the studio (except for the bathroom) and the sound of the waves was our favorite music. We also enjoyed long walks on the beautiful sandy beach, our private beach most days. We liked the casual beach restaurants that offered great food and value (missing the torritos already), but also enjoyed being able to purchase fresh fish directly from the local fisherman and dine on our balcony with amazing views of the stars and sound of the waves. Thank you Perry and Carolyn for being sensitive of our privacy yet sharing time with us. Although being first time visitors we felt very comfortable. We appreciated learning about your community and admire your devotion to it and our environment. P.S. Once we returned to Arizona Duane bought me a brightly painted wooden pelican for our patio as a reminder of our visit and a request for a quick return trip.

We were lucky to get to stay in both suites and this one is definitely larger. The views are amazing. The sunsets and stars are too beautiful. This suite has a full kitchen which is great if you want to cook in and not eat out every meal. The owners Perry and Carolyn are so knowledgeable about the area and very helpful. They introduced us to some of their Seri Indian friends and helped us purchase some Seri handmade objects. They even speak the language which is a huge help. We are looking forward to our next visit! Carolyn also did all of the tile work and it is unbelieveably beautiful. Enjoy!

We are long time fans of Bahia Kino but usually stay with friends who told us about the lovely owners of Casa Tortuga. We wanted a bit more privacy for this visit so we decided to give them a try. And we were absolutely thrilled by our decision. The Pelican Studio is a perfect get away, ultra clean, tastefully decorated, intimate, private. The kitchen is small but quite adequate. We did fresh clams and pasta for four one night. As long as it is warm enough to use the porch entertaining more would be fine. It has stunning views from inside and even more so from the spacious porch. The grounds of the entire house are very nice as well. Owner/operators Perry and Carolyn are just superb people, friendly and approachable yet utterly respectful their guests time and privacy. And to top it all off the price is almost unbelievable for such quality in a fine location! Do not go to Kino if you want a wide variety of upscale dining, nightlife, and other standard "resort" distractions. Do go to Kino if you want good basic local quisine at several different places, cheap but highly effective margarita's, miles and miles of beach to walk and ocean birds to watch, dolphins right off shore. And if you stay at Casa Tortuga all these things plus the sound of surf as you sleep for less than the price of the average Holiday freakin' Inn. We will return and have already recommended it to friends.

I spent four days and three nights at the Pelican Suite at Casa Tortuga, on Kino Bay. We had a restful time, listened to the ocean all night from the beautiful balcony. The balcony is sheltered enough to keep out the strong winds, yet allows beautiful views of the ocean, sunsets, moonscapes, and beach watching. Our hosts were accomodating, yet NOT intrusive, and it was a comfort knowing they were close at hand if we needed anything. The restaurants were great, a grocery store was close for quick shopping trips, and the beach was beautiful. The grounds are covered with abundant flowing bushes and vines, and we were able to snack on sweet cherry tomatoes from our host/hostesses own gardens.

We had a wonderful time here in February 2008. We especially appreciated the comfy towels and linens, chocolates, tasteful decor, beautiful bathroom tile, and well-appointed kitchen. We really felt like guests in someone's home. We spent hours sitting on the deck looking at the ocean, watching the birds, and beachcombing. Carolyn & Perry weren't home, but their friendly staff took care of everything. I can't imagine a more perfect weekend getaway spot for two. We'll definitely be back.

About the owner: We retired to Kino, bought and renovated this old house for ourselves, and added a couple of guest apartments for family and friends. Well, guess what? Family and friends don't come all the time, so se started renting. We refer to ourselves as the accidental innkeepers!

Why the Owner Chose Bahia Kino (Kino Bay):
On my. Let me count the whys! Well, it's on the most beautiful beach! It's quiet, and peaceful. During an early morning beach walk, you might meet one or two other people – but not always! We always wanted to live by the sea but never dreamed it would be possible. Now we wake up every day and feel gratitude for our good fortune. Also, it's not too far to drive back to the U.S. to see family — or for them to come see us.

The Unique Benefits at this Studio:
Sunsets, great seafood, our organic garden, Kino folks, Mexican culture...it's tough to beat!
