We rented this house over Thanksgiving and were very pleased. There were 2 families with children in our party plus the grandparents. The house is spacious and I did not feel like we were on top of each other. The kitchen has about everything you need to prepare meals and the fireplace is a nice touch. We loved the hot tub and walking around the neighborhood with the kids. Quaint house on a quiet driveway and perfect for multiple families.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers.

We stayed at two rental houses during out trip to TN and this one was our favorite! It is even better than the pictures! How often does that happen? :) There is different furniture in the living room, and there is a sofa and love seat (or two sofas) in the basement, not just one sofa as pictured. The hot tub was wonderful! The kitchen is fantastic! Everything is clean and tidy. The guys really enjoyed playing pool and it was really nice to have two separate TV areas. There is also some books and stuff for the kids. We had a couple of small issues, and emailed the owners, who replied very promptly, even though they were on vacation themselves! We had no complaints about this house at all other than the grill could stand a good cleaning, but even that wasn't really a problem. I recommend going to Floating Mill Recreation area for swimming, picnicking, etc, wish we'd found that hidden gem earlier in our trip. We also enjoyed the Appalachian Center for Arts and Crafts (or something like that) which is also nearby, and Rock Island State Park has gorgeous waterfalls and isn't too far away either.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

Our family rented the Center Hill Red House for a reunion with our daughter from Memphis, and this looked to be about half way. We had a great time. If you are looking for total relaxation with peace and quiet this is it. We played cards, and pool and sat for countless hours on the deck. My girls loved the deck upstairs off their bedrooms and talked there until late. The Red House is secluded, but close enough for other adventures. We rented canoe's from JBeez and floated down the river. On Saturday nights Hurricaine Marina has a live band and the restaurant overlooks the lake and the food was excellent. There is a Walmart close by in Smithville to pick up groceries etc. Pontoons can be rented (in advance) also at any of the close by marina's. I am glad we chose Center Hill Lake and pleased with our choice of accomations at the Center Hill Red House. Thanks, Lisa.Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

Lisa, I was cleaning out my email, and came across our correspondence. I wanted to tell you what a pleasure it was to stay at your Center Hill Red House. I have family in Smithville, and your home was a convenient spot for us to stay while celebrating my Aunt's ninetieth birthday. Perhaps you will hear from me again in the future when I visit (when many other family members visit simultaneously). Regards, JimDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/3

The house was clean and the beds were comfy. The grounds surrounding the house could be cleaned up a bit, as the weeds were knee high. Half of the grill is broken and in poor repair, so don't plan on cooking for a crowd on it. The hot tub was also in poor repair and unusable. Half of the water was missing. We refilled it with a nearby hose but after we came back down to get in, all of the water had leaked out again. All in all, the house was clean and comfortable and the deck was lovely. The house just needs a little TLC (and kitchen towels that don't look like shop rags... gross) to make it perfect!Recommended for: Pet owners, families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: The gas grill was replaced September 1, 2011. The hot tub has received the attention it needed. Kitchen towels will be upgraded for sure!

Stayed for a weekend and rented a pontoon on Center Hill. The house was just as advertised, very clean and well stocked, with a nice gameroom for the kids. The views from the top deck were really nice. Our kids loved the pool table and having a second TV area was a huge plus. Hurricane Marina is close (about 5 miles or so). We rented from Hidden Harbor which was a little further, but had nice boats which were fast enough to pull a tube.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

This house is amazing. It had everything that you could ever want or need. We had a wonderful time and hope to return next year. It was clean, well maintained and very comfortable beds. We didn't want to leave. As a matter of fact, the owner worked with us and allowed us to stay an extra night. Thank you so much for wonderful vacation memories!!!Recommended for: Pet owners, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

This house does have amazing views, but that'a about all it has going for it. The dishwasher does not work, the upholstery on the furniture is ripped and one love seat has a broken leg, rendering it useless. This is pretty bad for a home that says it sleeps 10, yet there are only seats for 6 in the den. (And one of those is a precarious chair). There is no soap provided in the bathrooms, the propane heat lamp on the deck was out of propane and the hot tub was turned up to intolerable levels. The kitchen is not well stocked--there's not even a decent-sized skillet. Many of the lamps were missing lightbulbs and others were just burned out. Unless you're on a very tight budget, avoid this property.Owner response: Please see the following email exchange following this review. The living room furniture & dishwasher have been replaced. We are happy to allow renters to use our outdoor heater but we do not provide propane & this is stated in the confirmation letter sent to all renters. Subject: RE: Re: VRBO.COM - Rental Inquiry From: Kim Date: Mon, October 18, 2010 13:20 To: Lisa Cassidy Lisa -- I called one of the ladies that went with us and asked if her experience was bad. To which she replied "absolutely not". The only comment she had was that the living room furniture could have been in better repair, but seriously..... nothing we couldn't live with. Everyone commented on the big screen TV, how great that was. The views were great, and the location was great. Yes....the dishwasher wasn't working properly and I'm not sure why. It would have been nice to have had a propane tank for the outdoor heater for us to sit by at night. But hey..... it happens. Did it dampen the trip....Absolutely Not. But again, nothing we thought would warrant a "scathing review". I will talk with my group to see who posted the comment and why. I know it is not much consolation, but I do offer you my most sincere apologies. I guess my friend's expectations must have been much higher than mine. I didn't anticipate a 5-star hotel. I personally understood we were renting someone's home and I do apologize that you were offended. Personally, I am embarrassed. I really had no idea someone in my group was that upset. I hope you will accept my apology on their behalf. Best regards, Kim ----- Reply message ----- From: Kim Date: Mon, Oct 18, 2010 10:37 am Subject: VRBO.COM - Rental Inquiry To: Lisa Cassidy Hi Lisa. I'm not sure why you thought we were unhappy with our stay? We really had a great time. Location was great. And the size was perfect for what we needed. I do not anticipate a refund at all! I apologize if you thought otherwise. I did want to make you aware that the leg on the loveseat in the living room was broken when we got there. One of my friends sat down and it fell backwards. Again... We did enjoy the stay and I'm sorry you got the wrong impression. Thank you-- Kim -----Original Message----- From: lisa cassidy Sent: Monday, October 18, 2010 10:27 AM To: Kim Subject: RE: Re: VRBO.COM - Rental Inquiry Kim, Clearly you were unhappy with your stay at The RedHouse. I had rented this house once before and loved it so we decided to rent it for the 4th of July. This time we brought friends. It could not have been more perfect. Secluded but with a lake view. The house has everything you need, great views, comfortable beds, nice TV,pool table, hot tub. It was close enough to the marina so we had easy access to the lake. It was such a great time!Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

About the owner: We are The Cassidy's! Our family loves being around the water and boating. When we are not at Center Hill Lake or Panama City Beach, we are in Mount Juliet, Tennessee. Rich works as an attorney and Lisa is a stay at home mom. We have lived in Tennessee for about 18 years and now consider it 'home'.
Why the Owner Chose Smithville:
Our family chose to buy The RedHouse because we think Center Hill Lake is one of the most beautiful lakes in Tennessee! It is also a short drive from our home.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We enjoy staying at The RedHouse as much as our guests do! We love boating and just getting away from the hustle and bustle of city life. It gives us a chance to relax and spend quality time together. We have also celebrated many birthdays, Father's Days and personal achievements at The RedHouse. Our friends have enjoyed staying there with us for these different occassions as well. One of our favorite yearly events at The RedHouse is in August for the Persied Meteor Shower. You cannot find a better seat for this spectacular event in the sky than at The RedHouse!
