We are Located on the southeast shore on the Kalapana coast. As a completely separate guest home on nearly 3 acres of an ocean front parcel, this very private rental is nestled in a lush tropical garden and has all the charm of old Hawai. This all cedar cottage provides homey comfort in a relaxed rural area away from the usual tourist scene yet with easy accessibility to other attractions. A private driveway with covered carport, a sunny yard and an abundance of flowers and fruit trees add to the convenience and pleasure of staying in your own piece of paradise.

Relax on the lanai in some of the best weather Hawaii has to offer; or let the soothing sound of ocean waves invite you to meander along your own private nature trail through a pristine wooded area rich in native flora. A minute's walk brings you to the beautiful ocean and peaceful cove. Blue skies, sparkling water and a fascinating coastline lie before you. Walk right along the ocean easily for miles on an old lava field and discover volcanic black sand and interesting lava formations. Hunt for shells and witness spectacular sunrises and sunsets. You can also view at a safe distance the incredible sight of a recent lava activity flowing into the ocean. The shoreline is rocky and the ocean not suitable for swimming but the walk is a one-of-a-kind exploration. Swimming and snorkeling is availble in nearby tide pools within a short drive. Also a small black sand beach where you may enter the water is within a short drive.

  • This place was amazing. The cabin is clean, cozy and very private with everything that we needed. The trail to the cove was great fun and the hostess was fabulous. When we return to the Big Island I will definitely stay here again.

  • This place was amazing... the perfect place to spend our honeymoon! The lava flows were nearby, and the plume could be seen from the cove behind the cottage. The lava fields and black sand beaches were beautiful, we'd never seen anything like them. We also really enjoyed eating at the Kalapana Cafe down the road. It was a pleasure, and we hope to be back soon!

  • My family loved staying at the Peaceful Cove Cottage. It felt like our home away from home. It was very cozy and had everything we needed. There is a trail from the house that leads to the ocean...very beautiful. The back porch is great for bird watching and the tropical plants and trees are breathtaking. The owner, Cheryl, is a pleasure and very accommodating. We highly recommend staying here. We hope to return again soon.

  • Lovely place - right next to ocean, close to tidepools, volcano. Private and secluded. Well set up - able to cook meals with no problems.Beautiful gardens, flowers, fruit trees, birds. Owner a lovely person. The coqui frogs were a little intense the first night, but we got used to them quickly. I would highly recommend this place, except I don't want lots of other people to go there - we will go back whenever we are on the Hilo side.

  • We were taken with the lovely setting; the yard with colorful flowers, lush foliage, and beautiful birds. It was an enjoyable and different view of the Hawaiian coastline. The cottage was perfect; very nice decor and quite comfortable, like being at home. It had everything we were looking for.
