Perfect

Date of Stay: 06/22/11 Review Submitted: 08/31/11

My family and I (wife and 3 boys; aged 3, 7 and 11) recently had a 3 night stay at the Hollows. A positive impression was made even before we arrived. The owner is an epitome of respectability and professionalism and he went out of his way to give us good information about the cottage and things to do in and around Lake Travis. As we were driving to the Hollows, we immediately noticed how suitably located the cottage is. On one hand, it’s easy to feel you are out in the wilderness, but on the other, you are only a 5-10 minute drive from local shops and restaurants. We arrived safely to a secluded enclave of about 4-5 cottages, and before we entered the cottage we already noticed the abundance of wildlife in the form of lizards, eagles, badgers, squirrels etc. Later on we discovered wild deer feed in the twilight. Very nice indeed. The house was perfect for us, and I expect perfect for most holiday makers. There are enough beds and bunks to sleep both your own family, and extended family or friends. Each bedroom has ensuite toilet/bathroom/shower facilities. Everything is maintained to a high standard. The kitchen/living space works well and is equipped with all you need (including washer/dryer/dish-washer). There is a balcony with amazing views of the lake. We spent a lot of time there relaxing. The cottage also has books and games for the children, which was most appreciated. As a lot of the other reviews here have documented, there is plenty to do in the surrounding area. If you can, bring your bicycles, because there are plenty of trails that are safe for the children also. We spent a lot of time at the beach club and enjoyed the pool and spa area. Down below there is an area with hammocks under trees, which is a great spot to take a book, or just to have a Siesta. We went kayaking and fishing at the lake. Although our 3 boys enjoyed both of those activities, they got the most pleasure from jumping off a rope into the lake. Very nice. Next time we may be more adventurous and hire a boat. It’s that kind of place - you just want to come back again and again. To summarize, we really thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and recommend it anyone who values relaxation and happiness. Thanks also to the owner John, who made it all happen with courtesy and a smile. We will be back soon!

Relaxing and fun!

I'm a member of a band that played at ACL this year with plenty of commitments during the weekend that tired us out...and so we really needed a place to relax and enjoy ourselves away from the bustling activity of Austin. This place was perfect! First of all, the directions to the place were spot-on. Second, the Hollows staff were great, and very responsive to our needs and questions. Third, the place was spotless and well-maintained, and everything "worked," including the WIFI internet access, the TVs/cable, and the fans and A/C. I didn't notice a stereo/sound system, but wasn't looking for one. There are also board games, including ones for the kids. One particularly nice thing for us was the washer/dryer, which worked like a charm when we needed it. Besides the spacious and lovely interior, this place has a great back deck and patio, with a gas grill and a fire pit that even has a gas line for easy start-up. The views of the lake and surrounding area are serene and calming. At night, you can see countless stars in the sky, plus a planet or two. The lights in this development are kept low, no light pollution here to interfere with the natural views! Our grill-out night in the backyard was one of the great highlights of our trip. We also had time to enjoy the beach club, which is very aesthetically pleasing, especially the pools with the "infinity" edges. The club overlooks the lake and mountains, great views. There are 2 large hot tubs that were very relaxing and warm. We didn't get to enjoy all that the club had to offer, but it also has a restaurant, exercise room, grills for cooking out, a sand volleyball court, and a marina with options to kayak, jet-ski, etc. Had we been around a few more days we would surely have enjoyed more of these activities. The owner was very responsive to my questions, answering calls and text-messaged questions quickly. There is a storage closet which the staff opened up for us, which had ample extra sheets and towels for our large group. For environmentally-conscious types like me, there is a recycling bin at the carport. Need some more food, detergent, etc.? No problem--there is a shopping center with a CVS and grocery store just a few minutes away. This was incredibly convenient. Finally, this place is a bit away from Austin, but the drive was not bad at all. We loved this place and hope to return! If you are looking for a clean, restful place for your family/group, this is it!

A needed Get Away!

This was our second time to use the property. The family wanted a last weekend before school started. When we asked the kids (ages 10 & 7) where they wanted to go, they asked if we could go back to the Hollows. Another great weekend without the worries of town. The Beach Club had live music and we sat out until they closed. We are now all ready to start the School year. Highly recommend the property. We were already talking about the next time we can come out.

Fantastic Getaway

Guest: Happy Renters (Austin, TX)
Date of Stay: 08/06/10 Review Submitted: 08/24/10

This house does exactly what a vacation rental should do -- take you away from your everyday life. The setup of the first floor is fantastic in that the kitchen opens up to the dining and living room area and also looks out to the beautiful deck and view. The deck is well-appointed with comfortable furniture to lounge on, and a large table for outdoor dining. The BBQ pit and fire pit were a hit with the men in our group. The setup of the house allows for groups to be together to converse and eat comfortably. It also allows for privacy if some people want to rest upstairs. The master bedroom is really nice. I wish our current home had the same shower and closet! I would definitely recommend renting a boat and taking advantage of the Hollows marina. It is very nice. Also, even though the house seems out of town, by boat, it is right in the middle of all the Lake Travis action. The marina is directly across from Carlos and Charlie's. Even my in-laws, who are getting on in years, had a fantastic time. They even had a "date night" at the fabulous Beach Club and listened to some live music. This was a big event for them as they rarely venture out to spend any time alone as a couple. I wouldn't be surprised if we rented your place again in the very near future. We had a wonderful experience.

Excellent get away

Date of Stay: 08/02/10 Review Submitted: 08/06/10

My family of 2 children, 12 and 14 and my husband and I enjoyed a relaxing 4 night get away. The home was all the we expected, from the photos, and provided a special place to sit and talk and play games on the back covered deck. We were able to take our dog which meant a lot to us. We rented a boat from the marina and spent 2 days enjoying the sun and the water of Lake Travis. A trip that has now geared us up for the school year to come. Thanks John for your diligence in getting our booking taken care of, we would have hated to miss this opportuinity.

Total Relaxation

Guest: Mashon & Chris (Leander Tx)
Date of Stay: 08/14/09 Review Submitted: 08/19/09

We live in Leander only about 15 min from the property and were looking for a place to take our kids to unwind and just relax before school starts next week. We had a total blast, the Beach Club is awesome with great activities for the kids, we cooked out Smores at the Club, had great service and the pools were wonderful. On Saturday we went to the Winery only about 6 miles away for a tasting and again a nice experiance. The house is spotless and quiet, if you are looking for a place to relax this is it. Great master bath and plenty of room, sat out back on the porch and drank coffee in the morning in the lush chairs and enjoyed some wonderful memories with my Wife and kids. We hated to leave and cannot wait to get back. Even though we were close to home it seemed as if we were on some far away vacation. The outdoor kitchen and fire pit were a total suprise and we took advantage and cooked out. All the staff from the greeters to the waiter at the Beach Club treated us well. I would highly recommend a visti to the Hollows. Kids have already asked if we can go back this weekend.

Girl's weekend at Lago Vista Lake House!

Guest: LaurenV (Austin, Texas)
Date of Stay: 08/06/09 Review Submitted: 08/09/09

We just returned from a 3 night girl's weekend at this wonderful home. I wanted to hurry and write a review because it was THAT GOOD. The home was spectacular and had all of the amenities anyone would ever want. We sat on the back porch in the evenings and had wine while looking out at the lake and the hill country. What was great is it was incredibly quiet and yet so close to the Hollows Beach Club. Oh and THAT was fabulous. We basically had our own pool! There were 2 pools at the beach club - a family pool and another more secluded pool that we basically took over for the afternoon! Tons of chairs and excellent pool side service. The drinks were very reasonably priced as well - and the food was FANTASTIC. I am going to have dreams about that veggie sandwich! I think this home is perfect for a family getaway OR for a girls weekend. Very versatile. We will DEFINITELY be repeat customers! Oh and one more thing - the owner is amazing. He sent us emails detailing local restaurants, interesting sites, etc. THANKS, JOHN! Great, great, great!

2nd stay was relaxing and fun!

Guest: HSTNTX (Houston, TX)
Date of Stay: 07/24/09 Review Submitted: 07/29/09

This was my 2nd stay in this house, and my 2nd time was as wonderful as my first! I came with a different group of women this time. Check in was at 4pm Friday, but I arrived about an hour early and they let me check in anyway. The house was wonderful, decorated well, and smells like cedar (which we thought was a good thing). The lake was about 40ft low on water, so the view out the back porch has NO visible water. The entire lake looked very different. There's a burn ban, too, so we couldn't use the fire pit. Very sad about that. :) All of the bathrooms are lovely, especially the master bath! The Master bed is a very firm bed, for those who like that. The kitchen is stocked with glasses, baking dishes, pots, pans, etc. There's even an IPOD docking station to play your music! TVs in all the rooms (although who would watch TV with so much to do?), comfy couches, and a scenic back porch. We heard a strange beeping noise the 1st night we were there and we called the Greeter's Cabin the next morning to tell them about it. We figured it was a smoke detector. We rented a boat for 9 hours on the lake that day. When we returned that evening we didn't hear the beeping, but it woke us all up again that morning around 5am. The Greeter's Cabin said they sent out Security the day before and he didn't hear any beeping at all. We never did figure out where it was coming from, so maybe it was something we brought with us! We ran around like crazy people trying to figure out where it was coming from. John let us check out a little late Sunday and we were able to go parasailing before we left. I will definitely come again, and I can't imagine staying anywhere else but John's house!

beautiful, clean, well appointed cottage!

Date of Stay: 07/01/09 Review Submitted: 07/11/09

My family and I stayed here over July 4th weekend and we really enjoyed our stay. The cottage is beautiful, nicely decorated and very clean. It is also well appointed, we had every appliance and cooking utensil we needed plus some that were unexpected suprises (waffle iron). The view is gorgeous from the huge back patio, and the outdoor furniture is so comfortable. We lived out there as long as we could stand the heat. The resort is great, the kids loved the pools and we went there everyday. Lake access is really easy via the marina--we were able to rent a boat and enjoy the lake. The cottage is also great for families with young kids, mine loved sleeping in the bunk beds. Finally, the owner is super nice, easy to work with, and very helpful with any questions. We had a wonderful time.

The cottage and community were fabulous!! We had a great time and absolutely had what we needed! The home is beautiful, and, needless to say, is surrounded by beauty. We took advantage of the pool during the day on Saturday and also went kayaking (definitely the highlight of the trip). The staff at the club absolutely catered to us (as did the security guard when we arrived late Friday). One of the employees even took us down to the dock and helped us get set up in the kayaks and came back to check on us and escort us back. We did the winery too, which was perfect. Definitely we’ll keep you in mind next go around. In fact, I have already recommended you to another friend.

Hill country fun

Guest: Sassy1 (Houston, TX)
Date of Stay: 02/27/09 Review Submitted: 03/02/09

My husband and I enjoyed a relaxing weekend recently at this lovely hill country house. We are from Houston so we were impressed with the large, comfortable covered patio that is right off the downstairs living area . We ate all our meals on the covered outdoor porch where we could take advantage of the lake view and the lovely Austin landscape. This is a wonderful area to go hiking in the countryside. The weather, although a bit windy, was cool, crisp & sunny with clear night skies. A mini trip to nearby Austin (about a 45 minute drive) to tour the capital and go to the Bob Bullock museum was a wonderful reminder of our Texas history. We are definitely returning to this cabin at the Hollows. There is ample space and beds aplenty for our grandchildren who will love the connecting series of swimming pools and the other shore side activities. I was impressed with how neat and clean the house was and that everything we needed for our food preparation was available and in working order.

The cabin was very clean and relaxing. As soon as we arrived my wife and I poured some drinks and sat outside on the covered patio while enjoying a peaceful evening. The cabin has everything you need and is very well kept. This cabin is the perfect escape for a whole family with the nearby pool house and amenites, hiking trails, and other local events but it can also be a nice spot for a romantic get-away with it's awesome views and the sound of peace and quiet.

Date of Stay: 12/25/08 Review Submitted: 03/09/09

My husband and my 2 boys (ages 7 and 3) stayed at the house during New Years and this place is the best if you want to unwind and relax! The view is gorgeous, the house is immaculate, cozy and very tastefully furnished. The backyard with fire pit was great for the kids to make smores and for me and my husband to relax with a glass of wine. There is also a gas barbeque, which we (ok my husband) used a lot (perfect... cause I did not have to cook!). Even tough it was winter, the weather was great, so we even got to use the (heated pools/spas) at the club house. We loved it so much that we are coming back for Easter!

My husband, two boys (age 10yrs & 7yrs) and I had a great time at the Hollows. The house was gorgeous and very clean! Before we even got there the owners had provided us with tons of information of all the things we could do on the property. Since we knew about the fire pit in the back yard, we came ready to have s'mores which the kids loved! We really enjoyed the fishing at the Marina, where my 10 yr old caught a fish and swimming in the hot tub at the Beach Club. The staff at both places were very helpful and friendly. We also enoyed a couple hikes around the beautiful lake. It was a great family weekend, away from the busy city. Highly recommend and we hope to return this summer!

Excellence in Relaxation

Guest: TDog (Plano, Texas)
Date of Stay: 10/02/08 Review Submitted: 10/09/08

Secluded and remote while providing world-class relaxation and service with amazing views of the hill country, the lake, and close enough to Austin for an excursion to Barton Creek for some golf or to downtown for some nightlife. The amenities at The Hollows afforded an easy call to a boat rental agency who picked us up on the water at the Hollows marina, less than 5 minutes from the cottage; a great gym and pool with jacuzzi also greeted our bodies after a day on the lake! The cottage, if cottage is a truly suitable description, has an amazing floor plan, with huge master bathroom with a wonderful over-sized shower. The appointments are high in quality, with granite and hand-scrapped floors. But the highest praise I can give is you will quickly forget all of those things and lose yourself in the peaceful relaxation of the setting. Did I mention the gas land-lined grill on the back stone patio? Truly a place to happily return to...

Not only was the Hollows community a hands down amazing experience, the owner of this property answered all of my questions and even took time out of his day to research places where we could eat and activities we could sign up for. The home itself was immaculate & there was a peace at night looking down the valley that was unparalleled. I would definitely return.

Short Break from the city

Date of Stay: 05/05/08 Review Submitted: 09/04/08

My husband and I needed just a day away from the hectic pace of our lives. The cottage was just what the doctor ordered and even though we were only away for 24 hours, it felt as if we'd been there several days. We spent the afternoon of the first day shopping in town. After we checked in, we were surprised to find how big and luxurious the home was! In addition to having a huge master suite on the main floor and two additional bedrooms each with baths on the second floor, there is a fully stocked kitchen, a covered porch decked out in cushy furniture that takes in the breeze and the view, AND an awesome stainless gas grill on the PATIO!! The clubhouse and pool were right out of Travel & Leisure magazine, we felt like we were in a very exclusive Carribean resort! Only, we were 20 minutes from downtown Austin. The next time we go back, we'll definitely hire a boat to cruise around the lake. Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us! John & Charisse
