Charming 1860's Gloucester House
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
This lovely house with an ocean view is a typical example of Gloucester architecture from the late 1800's. Although some upgrades have been made over the years, the house is in largely original condition. There are wood floors and white painted walls throughout. The furniture is comfortable and includes some antique pieces. The back yard is large and is well equipped with outdoor furniture.
Plum Cove Beach, a small beach from which the sunsets are spectacular, is only 1/10 of a mile down the street. No parking sticker is needed since you can easily carry your beach gear with you! A scenic drive will take you to any part of Gloucester or Rockport in 15 minutes or less.

Living in The Netherlands, looking for a nice place to stay during our trip to Boston / Cape Ann Area, we found this rental. Our expectations were more than met, it is a lovely, charming place, with a great view, peacocks walking around the house. The house is so well kept and well equiped, we didn't have to take anything (like linens) with us. Rockport, Halibut Beach, Crane Castle, Crane Beach, Gloucester, it is all nearby and so worthwile to visit. We made trips to Boston and even NYC. We love to come back to this house! We loved this house! It was very welcoming, clean and had everything we needed to make a great vacation. The owners have lots of information about the area and reading the messages from previous vacationers gave great ideas on where to go each day. Plum Cove is minutes away and the sunsets are awesome. We spent several evenings watching them and visiting with the local people. It's close to everything and we packed our vacation full of beaches and good food and even a ferry ride to Boston. We'd recommend this house to anyone. It's very well looked after. Thank you for sharing it with us.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Coming for our second visit as a family with two girls to Cape Ann from Delft,Holland, we were again so pleased by the relaxed atmosphere and the nice people. The beach is close by and our two daughters could walk there and a lifeguard was present. We went kayaking with Discovery Adventures in Lanesville, a pleasant little town a couple miles down the road. There is a nice shop with coffee and sandwiches. Actually you could do most things locally but Rockport and Gloucester are nearby if you are looking for cultural activities,e.g. we went to a maritime festival in Gloucester. Shopping is also possible in the large malls close by [30 min]. So we had plenty to do but were also happy to return to our "home away from home" and have all the necessary amenities. Especially handy was the gas B.B.Q. and we picnicked often outside in the backyard under the grape vines. The house was nicely decorated with old fotos of the owner. The owner was very helpful, e.g. with the payment because we could not write a check but had to pay her otherwise. Also we used the kitchen disposal for our corn cobs and it broke down, but she had it fixed with no extra costs to us. The house was well maintained and the kitchen fortunately had some condiments such as olive oil, herbs, sugar, etc. that we did not have to buy. You could see that the owner also used the home and as guests we profited from her hospitality. The linen and towels were all clean and fresh, enough for all our needs. In short, we would certainly recommend the house and the Cape Ann area to our friends and relatives.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

I have stayed at this home numerous times, girls get-a-way, and with family. It's very quiet and you feel very comfortable, not as though you're in someone elses house & afraid to touch anything. The homeowner is always accessible should you have a maintenance problem and can have someone there to correct it promptly - just call - she has her phone #'s posted. There is alway an assortment of spices, condiments, staples and cleaning supplies should you choose to use them, and enough pots and pans to cook for an army. This is a big plus when you're flying and very limited on what you can travel with. Beds are very comfortable, and with an ocean breeze, you may oversleep. Beach chairs and a hammock out back for your use. A 15 minute drive to Rockport (bring quarters for the meters). The train station is also right there and in a little over 1 hr you can be in Boston. At the Blackburn Circle (10 minutes) is a Market Basket grocery store that recently opened which carries everything - Great seafood to bring home & cook. We definitely will return, too bad its a 7 hr ride so we can't go more frequently.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway.

The city was lovely, the location convenient and the owner quite nice. But the cleanliness was a problem. Normal cleanliness you'd expect in the bathroom and kitchen were not there. Open food from prior guests were in the refrigerator, freezer and pantry. Kitchen drawers had food and dirt in them making me not want to use utensils and dishware. Plus there was a ring in the toilet and bathtub on our arrival. There were problems with some of the amenities not working properly: dryer, stove burner, grill. While I would definitely return to Gloucester, I would not return to this house.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We came in october for halloween in salem. The house was as nice as the pictures. It was close to rockport where we took the train to salem and boston and just walked around from there so did not have to deal with car traffic. The property was well maintained and the owner was very nice to deal with.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.
