Savannah bed and breakfast description
Stylish luxury & antique ambience blend perfectly w/21st century convenience to form the Taylor Estate. You'll find our historic Estate is the perfect 'home away from home' as you LIVE in Savannah's coveted downtown! The handsome Manor and its Cottage (formerly this was the Carriage House to the original Manor built in 1870). Both Manor & Carriage were restored in 2001 by us, the current owners, & we renamed the CH, Taylor Cottage. We now live next door but used to live in the Estate! You'll enjoy all the activities & sights of Savannah's historic district right from your doorstep! The homes are both decorated with thoughtful, homey touches amid a stylish ambience & has everything you need to make your stay complete. Having raised our children in the Estate, we know your needs & pay close attention to keep it well-maintained. High cleanliness standards are enforced. A stay in the Taylor Estate will never feel like a vacation rental 'house', but always a 'home'. Simply because the Estate was never intended as a 'rental'! It was & is furnished as a 'home'. EG: not a sofa sleeper anywhere! All ten comfy beds sit cozily within their own uniquely themed bedroom! Framed pictures of my ancestors line the stairwell of the Cottage. Family heirloom antiques as well as even the 400 year- old wood countertops of the Manor kitchen have their stories. We believe in serious comfort....so you will find everything you need & want at your fingertips. Plus Beds & soft leather couches are comfy, comfy, comfy! :). Large groups or small will enjoy the flowing traffic pattern /floorplan of the Estate and the convenient ease in meandering betwixt both Manor & Cottage. High ceilings, tall windows, & a roomy floor plan bequeaths a spacious airyness to each room of the Taylor Estate. Closets are large! We're pet friendly and...hypoallergenic! Instead of musty, heavy carpets and drapes, you'll enjoy sunshine spilling past light/sheer curtains and plantation blinds. As said, Antiques will delight. While the Estate's stylish decor, comfortable beds and amenities (in a home well over 130 years old) easily gives our Guests that sense of 'Savannah' that you miss with a stay in a hotel... we also believe that 'true comfort' mandates modern 21st century amenities! :) For bathing, you'll enjoy two jetted tub/shower combos, a 6 foot claw tub/shower, and handicap-friendly walk in shower. (There's an outdoor HotTub as well). We provide Guests with enjoyable high-end appliances including two Washers, three Dryers, two Microwaves and two Dishwashers. Ceiling Fans are in every room. Central AC/Heat. Two charcoal grills in the shady furnished courtyards. 4 car driveway. And entertain yourselves w/free WiFi access, board games, Nintendo, 5 TV/DVD/VCR's and a small book/DVD/VCR library.
The four 'themed' bedrooms are on the second and third floors of the Manor. The Living and Dining room feature two decorative marble fireplaces. A wide archway separates the Living & Dining Rooms. Enter through the front door and head past the handsome marble foyer with it's high ceiling'd chandelier. Pass along past the half bath and breezy passthrough of the Living Room to the huge 'Cooks' Kitchen in the rear of the Manor with its faux french doors leading out onto the Bilevel Deck and Hot Tub with the furnished patio below. Amid flowering folage, the comfortable iron umbrella table and chairs allow for enjoyable nights. The rose arbor leads to both the driveway and rear entrance of the Cottage. Just follow the winding brick path and you're only steps away from both.
The Cottage (formerly the Carriage House to the Manor) was painstakingly restored using handhewn craftsman-style technique. Because it is self-standing (no shared walls or ceilings!), & it provides its own entrance off East Jones Lane as well as a rear courtyard entrance, it allows for intimate cozy privacy for those in your group that want that. With its delightfully decorated kitchen, polished wood flooring, quality bedding, spacious pseudo-loft designed master bedroom, stylish bathrooms, charming first floor bedroom, and luxurious soft leather furnishings with a decor that evokes thoughts of an italian villa... you will be reluctant to leave daily. Meandering between the Carriage House and Main Manor Courtyards is easily accomplished yet, due to the angled location of the two courtyards, each offers foliage bedecked privacy. In addition, the Carriage House is HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE AND features a discrete access ramp as well as first floor bath and bedroom and a walk-in shower / grab bars.
Possibilities abound for this lovely Estate!
Rent just the Carriage House for groups of 2 to 6;
Rent just the Manor for groups of 6 to 11..... or those who want 4 separate bedrooms if your group is smaller.
Rent the entire Estate for groups of 17.... or those wishing for 6 separate bedrooms.
The Estate is perfect for reunions, girl or guy 'getaways', girl scout troops, church retreats, families and wedding parties. As we said, we provide convenient Wifi access throughout the Estate as well as board games, videos, books and even Nintendo for those times you want to refrain from sightseeing and simply....relax at home. And if you want to try a set of Tennis, ask us to borrow a racquet or two :) and head over to Forsyth. Afterwards, book a massage at the spa 5 min away or make an appt with our neighbor for her yoga studio next door. Or just relax in the Outdoor Hot Tub on the deck of the Manor while the rest of your group enjoys coffee and conversation amid the umbrella table and chairs in the patio below or balcony off the Master Bedroom above. You get two kitchens for the price of one in the Estate! Two charcoal grills...two courtyards...two laundry rooms...three dining areas...3200 square feet goes a long way for your group of up to 17! Or throw in some sleeping bags and we'll consider groups as large as 20 - 22 if children are involved :). As said, the kitchens both are fully stocked with all you need to cook, bake and eat! And there's only 1 full-sized grocery store downtown...and it's NOT close to the river but on the south end of the landmark district (which is bordered on the South end by Gwinett Street which means the north half of Forsyth Park down to the River comprises the original colony of Georgia borders set down in 1783 and which is considered 'easily' walkable. Outside those borders...its pretty much a 'hike' not a stroll or a walk. Disgruntled visitors who end up outside the Landmark Historic District thinking they're 'within' those borders...you got fair notice :)to be careful of the location. The Estate is a location ideal :). Well within the 'Landmark Historic District' borders it is 6 blks from the Kroeger grocery store, 3 blks from the Winery, North of Forsyth Park (4 blks), South of River Street (30 min walk), and surrounded by the Squares, Museums, Shops, and Stores. Linens and Towels are provided...just bring your suitcase and smiles!
Best of all...you can Rent each home separately. If your group is 1 - 6, you may want just the 2 BR/2BA Cottage. If you're a group of 1 - 11, you may want just the 4BR/2.5 Manor. But groups larger than 11 and up to 17 (possible approval for 17 w/children & sleeping bags :) will find the Estate....PERFECT! SO Come on and experience true southern comfort in the Taylor Estate. 96 reviews can't be wrong! ;). Oh...before I forget.

Wonderful Place to Stay
Wonderful Place to Stay
We rented the whole Taylor Estate for about a week. The manor along with the cottage were both wonderful places to have a company get-away for 12 co-workers. Being able to have a little separation was nice and having the big manor for group dinners and breakfasts was perfect. There was enough room for everyone and we could walk everywhere we wanted to go. The best morning was just walking the neighborhood around the house. The facilities were perfect, luxurious and extremely comfortable. Two of us came early the night before the full group arrived and we were fully welcomed by THE GHOST IN THE ATTIC - who woke us up several times. We had a lovely and genuine Savannah experience. We would all stay again in a minute (Ghost included)!

Owner response: I love when I have corporations and small businesses stay at the Estate as you are so right...having the two homes that still blend easily into one great big one where everyone can still gather together in one big group.... has so many advantages. Whether your group has grandparents that like to be with the grandkids but also be able to get away to be "by themselves ;)", church groups wishing to divide up by gender, Wedding Parties wanting the Grooms' family in the Cottage and Brides' family in the Manor, or truly just any LARGE group that wants everybody together in spacious accommodations...the Taylor Estate or even just the Manor alone if your group is 11 or less...is perfect for you! As to the "ghost in the attic" you experienced...hmmm. I remember telling you, when you mentioned the ghost to me, that I find it delightful fun that you believe we have a ghost! You are not the first as I've had other guests over the years tell me the same. That it seems to be a friendly one who likes to walk up/down the stairs and in the upstairs when no one is there, turn on/off TV's and, for one, the microwave, and such things as that :). My husband and I restored the home in 2001 with our daughters and his folks. While we definitely have our "interesting" stories that occurred during the restoration....I remain a firmly convinced "doubter" as I do not believe in ghosts at all, though I find it fun to go on ghost tours and definitely concur that Savannah earns the right to be proud of their "most haunted city in America" title :). One of my Guests who was a native american indian that was very convinced we had a ghost told me as we cheerfully discussed her experiences in my home that. ...they don't show themselves to "doubters"! So I guess you'll just have to decide for yourselves. However...angels are DEFINITELY welcome in my home :)

Same great stay the second time around!
I brought my Girl Scout troop down AGAIN for a trip to Historic Savannah, we were first here in Aug 2010. We loved the Taylor Estate so much that we didn't even consider another option for lodging. Having the convenience of a real home with a kitchen and multiple bathrooms (very much needed for a bunch of little girls) made the trip all the more enjoyable! We love everything about the home - the price, the décor, the location (we walked everywhere), the owners! The Schulz family are amazing - addressed our every need, supplied the home with a map, brochures, suggestions, etc. Everything we needed was already provided without having to ask for anything. I will definitely be returning to Savannah in the future, whether with future girl scouts or my family, and will definitely be calling Mrs. Schulz again! Thank you so much for your hospitality and making your home available to visitors like us! Sincerely, Girl Scout Troop 1158 Smyrna, DE

Perfect for Girl Scouts-small troop
I rented the cottage for my small group of Girl Scouts from Mississippi, after waiting just a bit too late to book a hotel downtown. But lucky for me, it turned out to be a great decision! The girls had room to spread out and I know if we had been in a hotel room it would not have seemed so home away from home. Free breakfasts at the hotels cannot compare to room to move about, leaders could talk downstairs with the girls upstairs. Even had DVDs to watch--they loved "I Love Lucy!" Of course, for my Cadette aged girls, the free wi-fi was the best! The home was clean, well-stocked and location was right on target. Really, this could not have worked out more perfectly. Thank you!

Owner response: I too Love Lucy! Who doesn't? :). I've provided a variety of DVDs and board games for the "downtime" that can occur between exploring Savannah...so glad you enjoyed them! Best of all was your statement that you were a group of 6 in the Cottage and still found plenty of room to spread out in! I want future guests to know that the Estate, which includes both the Cottage and its handsome historic 4BR Manor, can sleep up to 17 "in beds" but remains quite spacious. In fact, I sometimes agree to allow groups involving children that may have up to 20 - 22 people. I'm not the "typical vacation home owner" who just wants to "crowd in as many as possible to get as much money as I can". I'm more of a....love to have large groups but not so many that I feel there could be damage to either my home or the multiple antiques and family heirlooms that make up its decor. But I also believe it is this very decor that creates the ambience which transforms the Taylor Estate (both the Taylor Cottage and Taylor Manor) into the 1870 historic "home" that it is. The Estate is definitely not "just another rental house". :). I love Cottage-only Guests such as your small girl scout troop and am truly delighted you and the girls found the home to be everyting you'd hoped for... and far more!
Cottage was perfect for our long weekend!
Cottage was perfect for our long weekend!
We rented the cottage for a long weekend and were very happy with our decision. 5 of us stayed at the well equiped cottage that had plenty of room for us and was just minutes away from everything we wanted to see. Suzanne was great to deal with, met us at the cottage to explain how everything worked, and had some great recommendations for us. It was perfect!

Owner response: I love the word "perfect"! I use it when I describe my property in this listing and I adore it when I hear it back from my Guests. I truly believe you will not find a more perfect answer for your group than the Cottage and it's handsome Manor which together form, the Taylor Estate! So glad too that my personal recommendations added to fond memories :).That's my goal.
Long weekend extended family get-togetherGuest comment entered by owner
Long weekend extended family get-together
I am a reluctant planner by nature, always afraid things won't work out and I'll be to blame, so when I decided to take the initiative and plan a big family celebration for my dad's 80th birthday, I was plenty worried about trusting that this place was as good as advertised, but it turned out so much better than I expected or even hoped. The Estate was just exactly what my family reunion needed - plus! We had a large group coming from different places - the reservation was for 16, but we ended up with a group of 13 including a baby - people who never get to see enough of each other but also need some space and privacy. I had feared we'd either be too crowded or feel separated but it worked out so well, with several large areas to congregate indoors and out, private bedrooms as well as a couple of open loft-type bedrooms, lots of queen size beds, a few singles, and enough bathrooms. I was so pleased and surprised that it really worked out for everyone, no complaints. The location is indeed an easy walk to almost everything we wanted to see in the historic district. We walked and saw the sights together, cooked and ate most meals together, split off for some, and ate out as a group too. We did a 1500-piece jigsaw puzzle we brought with us while we just hung out together. Some of us soaked in the hot tub and took time to watch a favorite TV show (Downton Abbey) together, and everybody had room to be off by themselves when they needed it. As is the rest of the estate, the 2 kitchens are well-equipped, a grocery store nearby, shops and restaurants and bars all walking distance. Nobody in our group made use of a pedi-cab or a bus and we barely used our cars, though all of those were at our disposal - the weather and the walking were wonderful. Even though we packed plenty into the time we had, the trip was so relaxed. Everybody, from 4 months to 80 years old, was able to feel right at home - as if we were in one of our own homes but better. This was my first chance to spend more than just a few hours in Savannah and I loved it. My interactions with the estate's friendly owner were all just great. This experience has given me confidence that even I can plan a trip. I thought it turned out perfectly. The only ones with anything to regret are the 3 who were planning to be there but couldn't make it. Poor them, they really missed out!

Wedding "Home Away From Home"
Wedding "Home Away From Home"
We had the pleasure of using Taylor Estates (both the Manor House and the Carriage House) while our extended family and friends gathered in Savannah Oct. 9th – 14th for our son’s wedding. We found the estate to be a perfect “home base” for our stay; ideally suited for both wedding-related and touristy activities. We enjoyed everything the estate had to offer, from the well-appointed furnishings in both houses to the courtyards and hot tub. The owners have gone to great lengths to make sure their guests are able to be comfortable and relaxed in the two houses, with detailed instructions for guests and great maps to local attractions and dining options. The estate is located on a charming side street that is within walking distance to Savannah’s historic district and to Forsythe Park. The off-street parking was also a much-appreciated amenity. Our son’s wedding in the picturesque beauty of Savannah was a memorable family experience, and staying at Taylor Estates helped make it so. We would absolutely stay there again, and would recommend the estate (or either of its two “homes”) to anyone looking for a recommendation for a place to stay in Savannah if they wanted a vacation home rental experience. We “tip our hats” to Mike and Suzanne for their embodiment of gracious Southern hospitality!

Lovely Girls Weekend
Lovely Girls Weekend
We just stayed for two nights in the Manor. Everything was great. The house fit 7 of us perfectly and we loved the layout on the ground floor with the living room opening to the dining room, which had a large opening into the kitchen. The beds were very comfortable, and everything worked very well, from the showers to the kitchen supplies. Suzanne was wonderful - so welcoming and walked us through everything we needed to know. What a memorable weekend!

Owner response: gotta admit I LOVE comfy beds! Because I can't sleep if the bed is uncomfortable, we wanted every bed in the Estate to be one we ourselves could fall asleep on easily....and I'm like the princess and the pea :). But we do have Guests that like a King Bed so our daybed and trundle turns into a King and...for those who yearn for a very firm mattress, the iron bed in the attic bedroom ( that I don't use ;) ......is perfect for them. But the rest of the beds are for those such as myself who like soft! :)
Great Home with a Wonderful Location
Great Home with a Wonderful Location
We had a family reunion in Savannah and chose this home for our vacation. The estate was perfect for our family and it allowed us to comfortably sleep 13 adults and 2 children. The location allowed us to walk around the historic district and frequent the shops, restaurants and bars. We also were able to do a crab boil and barbecue in the courtyard. Suzanne, (the owner) provided many of the amenities that we needed to make our stay enjoyable, including directions to the best sites and a loyalty card for the local grocery store. We had a great time in Savannah and we will definitely look into renting this home for our next trip there.

Owner response: it's easy telling our Guests where is best to go, do, and eat when you have the selection of choices savannah offers but thank you for your kind comments as our hospitality is important to us. In fact, if you need a bouquet of roses to greet a special someone on arrival, ask us and we'll be happy to help you get that done at a reasonable price that'll beat what you'll find online ;). We're always looking to improve your memories!

Girl Scout Troop
Our party of 17 Girl Scouts and their mothers rented the Manor and Carriage House. This property was perfect for our group. It allowed us to interact as a group, share meals and stories. This trip was the capstone to our four years together. The manor provided plenty of space for us to eat together as a group. The property was very clean and we highly recommend it. Suzanne provided plenty of guidance on transportation, the surrounding area...pretty much anything you might need. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Taylor Estate. One of the highlights of our trip was all of us taking Pedicabs back from the Ghost Tour. Thanks for sharing your home Suzanne!

Owner response: It's true :). Taylor Estate allows small, medium and large groups to gather and yet...still have plenty of elbow room! :) So naturally, I love it when a reviewer points out just how wonderfully well the Estate is for those larger group sizes. Another advantage to my Guests is that I am right next door. So I am able to add personal insight into what Savannah has to offer which is "perfect" for "their" group dynamics! Living in the downtown historic district itself means I am always aware of what is going on for my family's enjoyment...I just get to "pass it on" to my Guests ;). And I totally agree...pedicabs are a hoot!;)

Year Purchased: 2001
About the owner: My husband, myself, our two kids, cats, dog & my in-laws purchased, lived in & lovingly restored the Estate in 2001. Because we never intended to rent it out, our appliances are high-end & 'quiet' so conversations plus life would be easy. We bought out our in-laws several years ago. We moved out of the Manor (after deciding to turn it into a vacation rental) to our home next door :). The former Carriage House is lovely. Realizing it would eventually be our own home (or one for our parents when they get too old to live alone), we outfitted it elegantly but sensibly with seniors in mind. Hence a discrete/camoflauged ramp access, wheelchair entryway, first floor bedroom/bath,elegant yet discrete grab bars, walk-in shower w/hand-held shower head, &opt. shower bench were priorities for us. Due to our love for animals, but dislike for animal hair...there is carpet in only one room in the entire Estate. We avoided upholstery and heavy curtains opting for soft leather, polished wood flooring, marble, stone, and tile. Now that our children are both in college...One at AASU and one at SCAD, life's different. Both were homeschooled since early elementary. Mike is a contractor. Restoring the home was a family project he headed up. So memories & sentimental love for the Estate( as well as our home 'next door' which was a part of the restoration) is quite strong. Mike grew up Yankee. I was a California girl. Our two girls were Carolina Cuties initially. However, since 2000 they have proudly worn the title of georgia peaches! We love the South. We love the Lord. We love Savannah. No other city is as beautiful and we wish to welcome you as we were welcomed....with warmth and hospitality. Our discounts also reflect our past because... 1. I am an AARP member 2. former Brownie thru to Cadette 3. my girls attend AASU and SCAD 4. Military are our heroes....so we offer 10% discounts for these...IF it's the person doing the booking who is the one who's eligible!
Why the Owner Chose Savannah:
We moved to Savannah from North Carolina when my husband job had him traveling there. The landmark historic district is breathtaking and so incredibly walk-able! Everything you could want is walking distance and you are walking through squares with outdoor cafes, moss-draped spanish oaks, carriages going by, cobblestone streets, these gorgeous historic houses....loved it. But, initially we moved to a 'cookie-cutter subdivision' in the city. But, you can find those subdivisions in any city and Savannah, while nice as a small 'city' is not where I wanted to live....it was in the real, true Savannah...which is the 'landmark' historic district. (Note to the wise...the original GA colony borders is the Landmark Historic District' and it goes from the River to Gwinett St (halfway thru Forsyth Park) & from MLK to Broad Street. Pass those street borders and you're not in for an easy 'walk' but more of a hike and some areas can be a bit...hmmm...sketchy. So be aware). Anyways....we bought a home in the Landmark historic district and have continued to live there while renting out the Manor and Cottage next door. So we keep close tabs on the cleanliness and that the homes are always well-kept and well-maintained. So much so that when we don't have a Guest in the Manor or Estate..I enjoy the outdoor Hot Tub ...immensely ;)!!! Yet another reason why the Hot Tub is kept VERY sanitary!
The Unique Benefits at this Bed And Breakfast:
Walking to everything! Antique Stores, Boutiques, funky shops and clothing stores will beat the malls everytime:). Plus, major chains and high end retailers are throughout the historic district as well. I love the quaint, outdoor cafes and the stylish restaurants- and strolling home under moss-draped oaks through the famous Savannah Squares. It's great taking the dog with us when we go for coffee in the morning. The friendliness of the people. The cathedral which is breathtaking. In fact, all the churches are incredible...so historic and beautifully built. The trees....I can just go and drive, bike, or walk, and stare at all the moss laden trees and the flowers in bloom and just feel the relaxation start seeping into my bones. The Savannah Theatre has a live variety show that is equal or excells those you'll find in Vegas, Branson, or even New York. You simply can't ask for a better place to live..festivals, street fairs, fireworks all summer long. Love it. Plus...the cuisine alone takes months to try to actually taste and try it all!
