This is and excellent weekend retreat! I wish we had more time to take in the all that highland county has to offer. Our family spent two nights at Highland Meadows and we can't say enough good things about it. We've rented cabins all over Virginia and this is by far the most secluded. If you are looking to get in touch with nature and tune out the rest of the world for a few days this is the place for you. I recommend the swimming hole on the Bull Pastor River as well as just enjoying the scenery at the cabin. It’s a perfect place to spend quality time with your family or close friends. I'm pretty sure that there are very few places in the world that the night sky is as spectacular as it is here. Enjoy!

This lovely wood cabin is in the middle of a large meadow with mountain views and woods nearby. All was clean and bug-free. The kitchen is small but well-appointed--lots of dishes, microwave. Bring food--it is a long way to town. We stayed here for a weekend in June and enjoyed the weather--warm days and cool evenings. The front and back porches are large, and the back porch is screened-in. We ate our meals on the picnic table on the back porch. We enjoyed watching the bird (a phoebe) that had made her nest in the rafters of the front porch. The front porch has some chairs, but bring some deck chairs for sitting on the lawn. We played horseshoes on the lawn (provided at the cabin). We grilled hamburgers (grill provided at cabin) and had a campfire and s'mores in the evening. The sunsets were beautiful. This is a great place for star-gazing. The skies are very dark, the Milky Way stretches out across the sky, and there are good horizons. A real treat for city dwellers who never see the starry night sky. Bring binoculars for both bird-watching and star-gazing, or a telescope if you have one Our group included my Dad who is in his nineties and my grandniece who was less than a year old, and both enjoyed it. Highly recommended!
