Sea Breeze: The Perfect Vacation

This is the best vacation rental experience we've ever had. In April we spent 6 days and 6 nights at Sea Breeze. It was everything we expected and more. The home is a beautiful garden oasis away from the hectic tourism of Waikiki. Paula and Hernando keep the property beautifully landscaped. The inside of the rental unit is tastefully decorated, very clean, modern and extremely roomy. We had four adults and an infant and took advantage of the spacious bedrooms, modern large bathrooms, a full kitchen, separate dining area and living room. Because the home is at the end of the road up against the valley wall, it was always quiet and cool with a great view. We could not have rented hotel rooms for the five of us for the price we paid for this home. It was an exceptional value, in a wonderful setting with two very gracious hosts. As others have said, we hardly saw Paulette or Hernando, but they were available if we needed them. Even though we shared the building with the owners, the architecture makes you feel like you are in a separate residence including private use of the pool. Our only regret is we all wish we could have stayed longer.

We came to Hawaii for our 40th anniversary. We've never been here before. Stayed for 1 month on all 4 islands (Big Island, Kauai, Maui, and Oahu). LOVED IT! Hopefully we can return someday. If we do, we will definitely return to this home. Very comfortable, clean, well equiped. We loved the house and the location. The owners (Hernando and Paulette) were extremely helpful and friendly! (Their granddaughter Kennedy is a doll!). If you stay here and have any questions, do not hesitate to ask the owners - they will be most helpful. The location is easy to find and is greta to see most of the Island. Highly recommended!

Warm and Cozy Experience

My husband and I just spent a relaxing week at Seebreeze and were very comfortable. It exceeded our expectations and we plan to stay there again in the future. We lived in Honolulu between 1999 and 2008 both in Hawaii Kai and then in Diamond Head. This was our first return visit since leaving. The following are brief comments on Seabreeze: 1. The two-bedroom, two-bath rental is super clean, beautiful, nicely decorated, with plenty of towels. It is located atop of Haha`ione Valley with nice views and is very quiet and private – And beats any hotel stay! 2. The clean private swimming pool is good-sized and the property has lush landscaping. 3. Very good value; better than the pictures, large master bedroom and master bath with separate shower and tub. 4. Utensil-stocked kitchen with oven, microwave, refrigerator, and complimentary welcome basket of goodies met our immediate needs. 5. Paulette and Hernando are sweet and you would hardly know they are in upstairs. 6. Washer/Dryer in garage ($1 per load) 7. Great location in upscale Hawaii Kai which is home to natural landmarks: Hanauma Bay (snorkeling), Koko Crater (hiking), Halona Blow Hole, and Sandy’s Beach (experienced bodysurfers). Water sports rentals/tours are available at Koko Marina Shopping Center. Hawaii Kai has three main shopping centers which includes Safeway, Longs Drugs, and Costco. Two recommend restaurants for casual dining are Zippy’s (Koko Marina) and The Shack (Hawaii Kai Shopping Center). Easy 20 minute drive via Kalanianaole Highway to Waikiki. 8. You need a car!

Private and Peaceful

We are a little late in leaving our review as we stayed at this lovely property in Nov 2011. It is a great unit, really quiet, restful with fantastic pool (newly tiled in aqua mosaic tiles) all to ourselves (husband and myself) which is surrounded by beautiful lush gardens and this is your view from the unit. The unit has all that you need: comfortable beds, 2 good size bathrooms, lounge room and separate dining room, a fully stocked kitchen (including all utensils, cooking pots and even condiments etc that everyone has left behind so check cupboards first before heading to the supermarket). Linen, bath and beach towels were plentiful and good. Great having a full size washer and dryer available to use in the garage at $1 per load (we left our washing powder behind like all other previous stayers so no need to purchase this!). Great location high up in mountains with lovely views. Supermarkets, Costco, Starbucks short distance away by car. Would recommend anyone staying here to hire a car, it is 15-20 mins away from main area of Waikiki and we found it to be a very good location for taking day trips around the island - parking on the street outside the house is no issue. And finally, Paulette and Hernando are fabulous, you don't even know they are upstairs but when you see them on occasion they are a wealth of info if required and just genuinely lovely people. We can't wait to return to Seabreeze at Hawaii Kai.

Just returned from 2 weeks at Seabreeze.Had a lovely time.Very quiet and secluded.All the comforts of home,plus a lovely private pool.Hernando and Paulette are on hand,should you need them (not very likely).The only thing we would like to have had was a change of linen,though there was plenty of towels.I would also just say that a car would be a definite as it is about a 40 minute walk to the excellent bus service.After saying those few minor points,I would definitely say that we would love to return to Seabreeze for a great holiday.

This is a lovely and special condo. If you don't want to be on Wakakki, which we did not, the location is great. It was very clean, well decorated, the welcoming gifts were very special - local sweet bread, kona coffee, macademian nut candy, tea and for us tea drinkers, a tea pot! I do condos often and in a variety on settings and we were exceptionally pleased and do recommend this condo highly.

We recently completed 10 nights as a family (including two children - 3 and 6 years of age). This trip was our first to Oahu and we were pleasantly surprised by the location, including easy access to sites along the southeast coast (Hanauma Bay & Waimanalo Beach) and to grocery stores and restaurants. The amount of living space was perfect for our family, and Hernando and Paulette are very warm and helpful owners. As mentioned in the previous post, we did encounter insects in the home but they were only a nuisance and were easily removed. We were pleasantly surprised by all the useful "gear" (cookware, beach mats, guidebooks) and encourage visitors to fully explore the home before shopping. We will definitely consider this property on future visits to Hawaii!

Owner response:We have addressed the insect issue by hiring a professional to eliminate this problem and keep it in check. Beautiful Home, Best Location, But Beware of Bugs!

This is a beautiful home located in a quiet, well-kept neighborhood. We found it conveniently located to shops, restaurants, beaches and H-1. We appreciated the fresh fruit, drinks and welcome basket the owners had for us when we arrived. I had read all the reviews before deciding to rent this home for our vacation and agree with everything that was written. However, I wasn't able to give this home an "excellent" review because of the numerous bugs we encountered throughout the home during our stay. I am surprised no other renters mentioned this problem. We arrived to find dozens of small "worms" crawling on the floor, walls and ceilings. (The owner said they were millipedes). The walk-in shower had a spider in a web. On our third day we discovered the roaches. Needless to say, this made our stay here less than desirable. The owner said he didn't want to spray because he has a granddaughter at the home. If the bug problem could be corrected, I would definitely stay here again. However, until then, I wouldn't recommend this property or stay here again.

Owner response:Because we are in the tropics, where the weather is year round warm and balmy, insects tend to thrive in our environment especially after a heavy down pour which was the case the night before your arrival. Although it was thoroughly cleaned and inspected just hours before your arrival, they tend to appear the next day when it is not checked when occupied. As we are mindful of our guests' well being and occasional visit of our grand child, we've shunned the use of insecticides on this property. You can be assured that these bugs are harmless but a nuisance. We are sorry that happened to you during your stay and hope you will consider returning to Hawaii again.

The was a wonderful place for our Hawaiian visit. We appreciate quiet, cleanliness, comfort, a very well equipped kitchen, good beds and spacious bathrooms. This home had it all. The added convenience of being very near where our daughter lives made it perfect. The home is situated in a very quiet neighborhood, but shopping beaches and hiking trails are within minutes. I don't know how it could be more perfect!

I have to say that this was beyond my expectations. You will want for nothing...my girls have already told me they want to come back again. Upon arrival there was a basket of goodies that actually lasted us the week and we didn't have to grocery shop until the day after our arrival. There was also a couple of giant coloring/activity books and color crayons for the girls (ages 5 & 7) The house is set up well two bedrooms and two baths...each room has air conditionning and TV. Lots of pillows !!! The kitchen has everything you need to cook a home cooked meal and some things you never dreamed of having (Georgeo Foreman grill). The pool is a dream...the girls spent at least 2 hours in it every day. Infact my littlest preferred it to the ocean...it was much warmer. If you want a quiet, restful place to come back to at the end of a busy day. This is your place...you won't find better. Many great recommendations were made and all were awesome...but the favorite was Zippy's and the Jin Dui... Thanks Hernando and Paulette for a wonderful vacation...when we come back to Hawaii we will definitely come back here... PS we left the sand bucket with beach toys for the next family with kids. What a GREAT place!

We couldn't have asked for a better vacation rental. There were 4 of us in our group (2 couples) and the house could not have been set up better with two bedrooms and two bathrooms affording lots of privacy. It was wonderful to escape the hustle and bustle of Waikiki and head home to our little piece of heaven at the end of the day. The furnishings and applicances were top notch and the house was clean as a whistle. Paulette and Hernando couldn't have been nicer and had a gift basket waiting for us with coffee, tea, and even the famous macadamia nuts! The house was well stocked with some staples, but Costco and Safeway were nearby, so getting groceries was a snap. There are all kinds of cookware & small appliances - toaster, griddle, blender, coffee pot, as well as plenty of dishes, flatware, etc. Thank you so much, Hernando and Paulette, for your hospitality and sharing your beautiful home with us. It was a great week! We will certainly recommend your rental to any friends or family visiting your island. Mahalo!

ALOHA! This home is sooooooooooo much more beautiful than the pictures posted. I was very hesitant on booking it on-line, but we got our money's worth and MORE! The home was very clean and well-maintained beyond expectation. The owner's Hernando and Paulette were GREAT and very very helpful with all of our needs and concerns. They told us what restaurants were worth eating at, which leau to attend what to see and not to mention the snacks and drinks they had provided for us when we arrived to their home. I would most defanately recommend this property to any and everyone looking for a great and "affordable" home. Notice the quotations for "affordable" because I could not believe how inexpensive this home was comparing it to all the others. My brother-in-law is going to rent this home next year on his anniversary due to my ranting and raving about the property. The home is perfectly located away from the city life at the top of the mountain and 5min away from costco, safeway, restaurants, drug stores you name it. In the same plaza of safeway hawaiin water sports is where you can do jet-skiing, parasailing, etc., 25min drive to makani kai helicopter tour rides. The home is in the middle of everything, like I said PERFECTLY located. This was our honeymoon and we couldn't have asked for a better one due to the home we were staying at. What a beautiful home! Even better than the pictures. Clean, nicely decorated and plenty of room for four people. We searched for hours for a place to stay and truly found a treasure. The quiet location and view from the home were great. After our busy days, it was nice to come back to this comfortable home and relax. We enjoyed the pool too. Hernando and Paulette, we were very happy to have met you and thank you for all of the yummy goodies you had waiting for us when we arrived. We enjoyed everything...coffee, buns and fruit, especially the fruit. Nothing better than Hawaiian pineapple. My family stayed at your place in Hawaii Kai last year and loved it. We have friends nearby and thought it was the ideal place: comfortable, quiet and beautiful. We were online looking to rent the condo on the week of April 4th but saw that your place was occupied. We continued to look through the rentals on VRBO but are reluctant to take a chance when your place suited us perfectly. I'm writing to ask if these dates are firmly booked or if there is a chance that the holder of that week is not coming to Hawaii. I'm sorry to bother you but we'd like to try to duplicate that vacation because it was the best family vacation we've ever had. Thank you and hope everything is going well in Hawaii.

I am so proud of myself to find such a perfect place for our family. We loved your central location so close to beautiful beaches like Hanauma Bay and yet only 30 minutes from Waikiki. We even appreciated being only 5 minutes from Costco. When the day was done and it was time to come home, we looked forward to our spacious, comfortable home away from home at the top of Hahaione St. where it was always peaceful and quiet. Thank you for your kind hospitality which always went above and beyond even up to last moment as you weighed our luggage and found it overweight by 13 lbs. We were grateful to be able to unload unnecessary items there from our overweight suitcases rather than at the airport check-in. Thank you for making our Hawaiian vacation so special! Sea Breeze is more than we expected. Besides the fact that the location is excellent (near shopping, beaches and easy to get to downtown)it is beautifully decorated, very clean, spacious and comfortable. Parking is easy, the view at night is gorgeous and the house has been supplied with everything you need. It is in a quiet location high up at the end of a street surrounding by lush plantings. We can't wait to come back again.

Our party of 3 ladies were DELIGHTED (an understatement) with our stay! Seabreeze FAR exceeded our already high expectations. It is immaculate, and the landscaping is gorgeous!Two of us shared the master BR/BA. The bed was SO comfortable. I usually have a difficult time sleeping in a strange place; I was elated when I laid my head on the big king pillows. I slept like a baby the entire week!Master bath is HUGE, plenty of room for both of us to be in there doing our hair, make-up, etc. We loved having all the drawer space to store our things, and enjoyed the vanity stool to sit on while primping, like we are used to at home. The lighted magnifying mirror was PERFECT for my cousin who had just gotten contact lenses the week before - still a rookie at getting them in/out. Just one example of many ways you’ve given EXTRA special attention to every detail in providing for your guests.Our friend enjoyed the large second BR/BA. She is meticulous (another understatement); she came packed with her own sheets! Once she saw how clean Seabreeze was, she felt no need for them.Your complementary goodies were so thoughtful. The kitchen is WONDERFUL, providing anything desirable. I love to cook and have most every kitchen gadget there is, so I really appreciated how well-stocked it was. While most on vacation don’t think about cooking, you provide EVERY amenity to prepare meals conveniently, for those who may like to save $$ on dining out.The maps/brochures you provided were VERY helpful in our planning our daily activities, and navigating the island. We put almost 500 miles on our rental car, and didn’t EVEN use the GPS navigation on my cell phone. Other than getting turned around a few times in downtown Honolulu/Wakiki (lots of one way streets) I felt I drove around like I was a local.Seabreeze’s location is EXCELLENT – easy access to near-by grocery stores, restaurants, etc. It is trouble-free to find, only two left turns off of the major highway from the airport, and the same highway straight up the Windward coast to the North Shore. It has all the conveniences, while being peacefully “tucked away.” You mention the “beckon of the songbirds in mornings,” and you couldn’t be more correct. I strolled by the pool each morning, taking in the pleasure of their greetings. There could have been no more pleasant way to start my day. When I close my eyes, I can still hear them, and look forward to their welcoming me back to Seabreeze again.

The stay here was absolutely wonderful. It was nice to get back late in the evening to a quiet place away from all the crowds. Everything was as promised. It is actually nicer than the pictures show. The beds were very comfortable. Plenty of room to spread out. Landscaping was plush against a backdrop of spectacular mountains. The view down the valley was awesome. All the extra supplies in the kitchen were a nice touch. It is easy access to Waikiki (15 min) but only 5 min to Hanauma Bay and then only another 10 min to some of the best beaches on Oahu. You couldn't ask for more. The owners were very gracious and informative on the best places to visit. We would go back in a heartbeat. Mahalo

We recently stayed at beautiful Seabreeze for 8 nights. We feel very fortunate to have found it among all the varied listings. We were looking for a two bedroom, two bath unit with pool. We wanted our own private unit, with private entrance, not wishing to share space like at a B&B, and also not wishing to bother the home’s owners. We wanted something outside Waikiki, but still convenient to it. And we were looking for something moderately priced. Seabreeze was a perfect match for all these criteria, and more.Seabreeze is part of a lovely large Hawaiian-style executive home which sits high on a hill in the Hawaii Kai section of southeastern Honolulu. It is the last house on the street and borders a lush hillside of palms, ferns, and other tropical plants. It is perfectly quiet. Seabreeze has its own private entrance, and we had the exclusive use of the beautifully tiled pool. Seabreeze has a large kitchen, comfortable dining area, living room, and two large bedrooms. It is all impeccably clean. The master bedroom has a large King-size bed with its own large bathroom with a tub, and large walk-in shower. The second bedroom has a Queen bed and looks out over the pool and across the valley below. Its nice bathroom has a large shower and is located across the hall. Both of the beds are so comfortable with pillow-top mattress covers. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you could possibly want.Seabreeze is in a great location. It is less than a ten minute drive to Hanauma Bay, a beautiful state park known for its snorkeling. It is also very convenient to the beautiful coast and beaches of the southeast Windward side of Oahu. We thought Waimanalo Beach was especially gorgeous. Heading to the west it is an easy drive to Waikiki and downtown Honolulu. We especially enjoyed driving through the beautiful neighborhoods of Kahala district, along the base of Diamond Head, and through Kapiolani Park to get to Waikiki. Seabreeze is also very convenient for local shopping. A Costco, large Safeway, and many neighborhood restaurants with outside water-side dining are less than two miles away. We felt like locals, rather than tourists!We can’t say enough about the graciousness of our hosts. They made us feel very welcome and let us know they were there if we had any questions or needed help of any kind. We wish to express our heartfelt thanks for the wonderful outfits you gave our baby daughter, Marina. That you also thought of our son speaks volumes of the warmth & kindness in your hearts! Our stay was wonderful! We truly enjoyed the peace and quiet your place afforded us. The landscaping, coupled with the beautiful views gives the feel of a tropical hideaway. After spending the week at your place and the following week in Maui, we arrived back in Canada late yesterday afternoon...tired but very happy. Mahalo! Mahalo! Mahalo! Seabreeze was a wonderful place to spend a week! Everything there was as promised...and more. The extra supplies, maps and help with pronunciation of hawaiian words were most appreciated and made our stay even more pleasant. The pool was a real plus, especially my wife who was in it every morning before breakfast. If we weren't out of town for more than a month each summer, I suspect she'd want one installed tomorrow... We also appreciated the quiet of the house and surrounding area. Though you were just above us, we never heard you. You must walk around on you tiptoes... You were most gracious hosts. Again, we thank you for contributing to a most memorable trip, and whenever, in the future, we go down memory lane, we will think of you both fondly.
