Large cottage located on beautiful, crystal clear Cathance Lake in Downeast Maine. The front of the cottage is only eight feet from the water's edge. Quiet spot, last cottage on the road, no through traffic.

The side of the cottage shown in the picture borders a spring fed brook, the front faces the main lake. The brook side has no more than 2 1/2 - 3 feet of water, and a sandy bottom. Excellent swimming for children.

There is a good size lawn with horseshoe pits and an outside fireplace, and plenty of room to relax, sunbathe, etc.

On the front side of the cottage, the water is deep enough to bring a boat or jet ski up to the dock. Leave the windows open at night and let the loon calls lull you to sleep, or maybe indulge your inner child and catch some fireflies.

There is no size or bag limit on small mouth bass in Cathance, and you can catch all you want right off the dock. Or if you have a boat, you might try fishing for land-locked salmon, and if you're lucky maybe a nice brook trout. If your taste is seafood, you won't have to travel far. You can purchase it fresh at the store or buy it direct off the boat. You can also go to a restaurant and let them prepare it any way you like.

The inside of the cottage is finished in knotty pine. There is a full kitchen with all pots, pans, utensils, full-size electric stove and fridge. There is a full bathroom which includes an old-fashioned claw foot tub with a shower. There is one downstairs bedroom with a full-size bed. The upstairs has two bedrooms overlooking the lake, each with a full-size bed. There is also one more large room upstairs with a full and two twin beds. We have to strictly limit the total number of guest to a maximum of 8.

Our number one recommendation for activities is just to enjoy the lake and the cottage, but if you feel the need to explore the area get up early enough for a 40-minute drive to Lubec, Maine (eastern most point in the US) and watch the sunrise at the famous West Quoddy Head Lighthouse and enjoy its rugged coastline hiking trails. Once done in Lubec, just across the Roosevelt International Bridge is Campabello Island, New Brunswick, Canada. Activities on Campabello include a tour of the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Historic Cottage, whale-watching, 18-hole golf course, East Quoddy Head Lighthouse, and a ferry which goes to Deer Isle, Grand Manan Isle and Eastport. In the other direction, a 2 hour drive will take you to beautiful Bar Harbor, Maine, where activities include among many, many others, Acadia National Park, ocean kayaking, biking, hiking, miniature golf, go-carts, restaurants and shops. We are also located appx. 25 miles from the Calais, Maine/ St. Stephen N.B. International Bridge. Tourist information bureaus are located in both towns. This border crossing can take you to St. Andrew's by-the-sea, King's Landing, St. John, or any other place you feel like exploring.

A word about getting here. Fly into Bangor, Maine and rent a car for a 2-hour drive down Rt 9. Or if you are more adventurous, take an extra day and fly into Boston and rent a car to drive up US Rt 1 through quaint coastal towns including Camden and Rockland among others, see Old Orchard Beach, the city of Portland, and the home of LL Bean and many other outlet stores - Freeport, ME.

This was without a doubt are finest family vacation yet.....my kids say bettter than Disney! We caught fish, swam, boated and just sat back an enjoyed a beautiful crystel clear lake.... chalk full of Bass. My kids loved it so much they both cried when we had to go. My daughter still won't watch the vidoes that we took because the memories were so good they still make or cry to go back. Thanks to Tim and Kelly for sharing this charming little camp. We will be back again!!

This place is really beautiful. Their guest book located in the cabin is filled with testimonies about years of "fun times".The lake is quiet and the cottage is really comfortable and right on the lake. At night you can hear the loons calling. The lawn is really big with a nice outdoor stone fireplace. I love the front room where you can sit and enjoy the lake. There's even a couch on this front glassed-in porch. This is the place for you if you love quiet lakes, hiking, the ocean, blueberry picking (august) and spending time away from the hustle and bustle of life and be with your family. We loved the sailing ship out of Eastport and saw whales on this trip (and you won't get seasick). We loved exploring Campabello island and saw harbor seals under the bridge in Lubec (august). We spent time fishing, laughing, swimming on the lake directly outside our cabin and lazing on uncrowded beaches by the ocean. There's great lobster to be found. Try the chocolate stores in Lubec. It's a very beautiful and rural part of Maine - just the way we like it!

We have spent the last 4 years vacationing at this camp. What a wonderful, relaxing, family friendly place! We look so forward to our time there & hate when our 2 weeks of Heaven on earth is over. The owners are starting to feel like family, the neighbors are very friendly & the local people make us feel right at home. The house is extremely comfortable & well stocked, we instantly feel right at home once we arrive. The lake is beyond words, to awake to just the sight of the clear water, or too hear the loons calling, or to watch the loons chase each other or see a beaver float by. Taking a kayak & just quietly exploering the lake is a must & if you are lucky to be on the lake during a full moon....WHAT A SIGHT! AAAA+ in our book, worth the trip
