Why the Owner Chose Ten Mile

Hi, thanks for looking! I bought and lived in this home for 7 years and completely remodeled and updated the home while living there. I moved to Knoxville to shorten my commute to work and decided to keep this home as a vacation rental.

The Unique Benefits of this House

This home is perfect for any size group and my parents, brothers and their families love to get together here (we have 14 people!). Everyone who stays here loves the house and area and always comment on how peaceful it is here. I think the best feature is the dock. It is my favorite place to hang out and enjoy the lake no matter what the weather is.

Cool place in the Hot Summer

My three brothers and our families spent the week here. While not flat, it is about as flat as you will find a lakefront home. This allowed our wheelchair-bound son to enjoy the covered dock, which is the best feature IMHO. We had room for a large pontoon and my brother's fish/ski boat. The Ouchee marina is only about 1 1/2 miles by water, but did not keep posted hours, so if you need gas better call first. There is gas, food, etc. fairly close by so not a problem. This was our first time on Watts Bar and really liked the lake, but you need to watch out for shallow areas if you are not familiar with it. Everything was well stocked and as described.

Pleasant stay at Driftwood Cottage

Guest: Red (Ohio)
Date of Stay: 06/29/10 Review Submitted: 07/08/10

We arrived at Driftwood Cottage in June 2010. The house was very nice and provided everything but personal items. Dock was very nice for fishing and relaxing. We couldn't find to much to do in immediate area unless you drove close to an hour which was dissapointing. Should have checked on intertainment better before we left. Otherwise a very nice place to stay.

Great Place To Get Away & Relax! Fishing Fun For All!

Guest: Mr. Roger (Utica, Ohio)
Date of Stay: 05/14/10 Review Submitted: 05/20/10

It rained at least once, every day of our trip...However, with the covered dock being large enough for all of our children, they enjoyed every waking moment! At one time, we had 10 people on the dock fishing and there was room for more! There were several glimpses of sunshine, for which they were also grateful to have their bathing suits and take advantage of a little swimming as well. The house is absolutely gorgeous and well maintained! The owner of this property was extremely pleasant to work with and very generous to let us take advantage of this beautiful/serene house on the lake. After the first night in the house, it almost felt like we were literally "home"! The description of this house does not do it justice, as it lived up to it and more! We made one trip to the local market (IGA), as we had forgotten to bring syrup for our pancakes; it was only about 6 - 7 miles away and just like any other local market - very friendly people. We also made a couple of trips into the nearby city of Kingston, which was only about 1/2 hour drive; not bad at all. We had made this trip to TN, in order to see my nephew's graduation & to visit the family, who lives in Rockwood, TN. We were able to have them over during the day and it was great to be able to visit! I would definitely recommend this property to any of my personal friends &/or family. Again, the owner was very easy to get in touch with and he came through on everything we were told. Excellent property and excellent experience altogether! Way to go Ten Mile Cottage! *Our 4 year old was very upset when we were packing up the fishing gear. Not only that, but when we were just about home, he asked us, "how many more mornings 'til we get to go back to the Tennessee hous?" All of us really enjoyed ourselves and can't thank the owner enough for allowing us the opportunity to stay! Thank you! **I must say if anyone in your group has difficulty with stairs, the house is set up with the main level being accessible from the outside, using only a few front porch steps. Otherwise, the inside steps are about equivalent of going to an upstairs bedroom, in order to get to the main level from entering the house from the parking area. Our parents were with us and pretty much stayed on the main level though.

I loved this place!

Guest: Enjoyed the Get-Away and graduation! (Delaware, Ohio)

While I was searching for an economical way for my family and their families to afford a trip to Tennessee for a high school graduation, I came upon this cottage rental. We are pleaesd to say and recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a vacation rental in the future. It had all we needed and more. Even though the weather was not at cooperative as we would have liked (rain, wind and hail) it did not hinder our stay at all. There were 14 of us in all ranging in age from 4 yrs to 73 yrs and everyone had something they could do and enjoy. The dock was a big hit with all ages. There was plenty of fishing, swimming and visiting done while we were there. The home itself was absolutely everything the pictures revealed. It was beautiful with lots of space. The stairs were a bit challenging for the older folks and one sister but we managed by having them enter and exit through the front porch. The kitchen was a kitchen I can only dream of right now. There were plenty of cooking and eating utensils. We never heard the dishwasher running but always had clean dishes. The children enjoyed watching movies on the big screen. They felt like they were in the movie theater. As you can see from my rambling on and on about this house there is not one thing I would want to change. It is highly possible we have found a new vacation spot for the family. One again, thank you, thank you, thank you for the hospitality we felt while in the home which allowed us to attend our nephew's graduation. May God bless you in all you do!

We stayed with Roger for several months. Cottage was very comfortable and clean, nicely furnished and everything was kept in excellent condition. The grounds are beautiful and it is wonderfully relaxing sitting out on the dock. Very quiet scenic area and we would love to go back. I would highly recommend this property for family or a romantic get away. Be sure to get a hamburger from Twisters...excellent!

Perfect Family Getaway!

Guest: BigCity (Atlanta, GA)
Date of Stay: 08/30/08 Review Submitted: 09/09/08

We cannot say enough about our experience at Driftwood. The house is amazing. There was plenty of space for my brother and his family, my father, and my family. The children were thrilled to watch their videos on the large television while we prepared dinner. The view from the home is beautiful. The nice, big level back yard allowed for the children to play safely, and the walkway down to the lake was so nice that they never had to wear shoes! The dock is covered which allows for one to sit in the shade while the children play in the water. The water was shallow enough for my 2 year old to play in the edge and deep enough at the dock for my 6 year old niece to jump in. My brother caught 6 fish on one side of the dock while the children swam on the other side. My husband runs every morning and said that the surrounding community is beautiful.I would recommend this place to everyone. There is no doubt that we will be going back.

A Family Vacation Weekend on Watts Barr Lake

Guest: Nowski (Hopkinsville KY USA)
Date of Stay: 06/12/08 Review Submitted: 08/05/08

The house is a clean, charming, three story house with a delightful and user friendly kitchen. The two and a half baths are well located, clean, and up to date. The children's bedroom is attractively painted with Noah's Ark murals on the walls. The adult bedrooms are easily sufficient and pleasant in the main. The stairs are a bit challenging to older people. The yard pleasantly backs up to an inlet of the lake that has a fully covered boat dock with ample and comfortable outside lounge furniture. The water is shallow enough along the dock to accommodate swimming for small children with flotation devices. Our grandchildren loved the water, which is not cold, and they played in it for hours each day. Our son enjoyed fishing off the dock even though the fish weren't biting this weekend. He did unintentionally hook two turtles, which made for no little excitement and challenge to free the turtles. The nearby marina with the giant water-slide and small beach provided great entertainment for the children at a reasonable price. The setting is rural, with the nearest town 5-8 minutes away, so this is not an immediate area for much restaurant eating, which we didn't desire anyway since we cooked fabulous meals in the great kitchen. The dining area has a very warm atmosphere, and it stretches out from the island in the kitchen without any wall separation, providing a large open space for both dining and sitting around visiting. The lower floor includes the giant screen television, which everyone liked. The neighbors are friendly and give the sense of a regular neighborhood, with very well kept properties and attractive flower gardens, making walks along the road a genuine pleasure. Our weekend was designed, like every year, for a family vacation of four generations and a total of 9-12 people, including the grandchildren, and this house and setting worked perfectly for that. I would easily recommend the house. It is a reasonable price, and the owner is very prompt and clear in all aspects of communicating. He also sent our deposit back very soon after our stay. The June weather was ideal summer weather, and the yard is spacious, though the children gravitated at all times to the water and the boat dock, which once again, is a dream. Thank you for offering this opportunity to comment at length on this fine, somewhat remote, but delightfully rural vacation house and setting.
