Laying on the coast of the beautiful blue Mediterranean and surrounded by mountains, Santa Margherita Ligure is a jewel of the Italian Riviera. The town, its beaches, and its cuisine, can make for a vacation of a lifetime.
Once a fishing village, Santa Margherita has been for many years the vacation destination for the wealthy families of Genova and Milan. A small fishing fleet still goes out every day and provides fresh fish to the local restaurants and fish market. Walking down the main street, along the shoreline, one can enjoy the breathtaking view of the Mediterranean and the colorful buildings painted in the typical Ligurian style. Numerous restaurants, including Michelin rated restaurants, are scattered across town, offering local specialities like Pasta col Pesto, Ciuppin (the progenitor of the San Francisco’s Cioppino), Pansoti al Sugo di Noci (veggie ravioli with walnut sauce), and many other delicacies. Shops, boutiques, and jewelry offer local product as well the latest fashion from Milan.
Sand and pebbles beaches are scattered along the coast with clear blue waters for swimming. Trails climb up the surrounding mountains and provide breathtaking views of the Mediterranean and the Golfo del Tigullio. The nearby village of Portofino is renowned for its beauty and charm and makes for the perfect afternoon walk. The middle-age towns of Cinque Terre are just one hour by train away and make for an unforgettable day trip.
My family used to go to Santa Margherita for their summer vacations. In these days we travel once a year from the United States to Santa Margherita and we stay at this apartment. Our apartment takes advantage of everything the area has to offer. Look outside from the patio to the Mediterranean, the mountains and the harbor. A short walk down the hill takes to the town center and many restaurants and shops.
The spacious living area sleeps 2 to 4 comfortably. There is a full kitchen and bathroom. We have dishes, cooking pans, linens, a washer, a dryer, a microwave, and a coffee maker to make you feel you are in a wonderful home away from home.
The international airport in Genova is 1 hour away, the airport in Pisa is also about 1 hour away, and the major airport at Milan, about 2.5 hours away, can be reached easily by train, bus, or by car. Trips to Nice, Monte Carlo, and Lago di Como are 2-3 hours.
Please note that we rent this property on a weekly basis only. |
