We stayed in the property for a family vacation in August 2011. My husband and I and adult children. The location is spectacular. You literally step out onto a virtually private sandy beach. My favorite time was sitting in the hammock between the palm trees with my morning coffee just watching the sunrise and listening to the ocean. We saw turtles and stingrays. There are tide pools to explore in the mornings where one can see all wonders of marine life. The house is well equipped and really felt like a family home. It was clean and well maintained. Anything you need for the beach is there which saves on packing. It was hard to leave. I would recommend this home and stay there againRecommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

We stayed at Hale Honu in June 2012. This was our first trip to Hawaii so we didn't know what to expect. This house & its location is absolutely incredible & has been very modestly described. It has a down-to-earth, warm & comfortable feeling. Very spacious with modern amenities like a huge flat screen with cable, top of the line washer/dryer, up-to-date kitchen, & WiFi. Beach towels/sunscreen were provided. Outside we found a grill, dining tables/chairs, beach chairs/umbrellas, snorkel gear, fins, water shoes, beach toys, boogie boards & surfboards. The owner even let us use one of his standup paddleboards! We needed absolutely nothing! Big mahalo to the fantastic owners (who truly make you feel like ohana). They were very gracious when I embarrassingly & unintentionally arrived 3 hours too soon. Our first 3 days were in Waikiki & I was ready to get away from the crowds. I was in heaven when they showed me the beach without a single person on it. It was our own "private" beach! During our stay we saw turtles in the waves, snorkeled with a HUGE turtle, met 2 turtles sunbathing on the beach, saw Spinner dolphins, at least 3 rainbows, glorious sunsets & had meals everyday on the well shaded Lanai. Being from Texas, I was concerned there was no a/c but there was no need for it. The beach breezes kept the house comfortable & we used quilts on some nights. I miss falling asleep to the sound of the waves. This house is literally center from all that is North Shore! Historic Haleiwa Town is a 5 mins drive south. Waimea Beach is a short drive north. It took us longer to load up the family in the car than it took to get to Waimea. Just past Waimea is Foodland (discount card provided with house key!) & Shark's Cove for snorkeling. World Famous Pipeline & other breaks on Ekuhai/Sunset Beach is just another 5 mins down the road. We were blessed to be on the North Shore during a rare period of very good surf in the middle of summer. You can see some well known breaks right in front of the house & further down the beach. I've known about Pipeline since the '80s so when I saw it breaking right in front of me, I literally cried from excitement. That is one reason I will never forget this vacation. The other reason is that I cannot say enough about this house & the people who own it. In our opinion, everything was perfect. I hated to leave. It's been only 5 days since we left & I am already making plans to return.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

Our family stayed at the Hale Honu in June of 2011 for our first stay in Hawaii. This home was exactly as pictured in the listing. The owners have made it a beautifully decorated, comfortable home in which you can enjoy the crystal clear waters of the North Shore. This home was exceptionally clean and well maintained in a private area that is only a 40 minute drive from the hustle and bustle of Honolulu. When you walk out onto the lan'ai you feel as though you have your own piece of paradise! The owners were very helpful answering our questions before and during our stay. As you can tell from the pictures, the views are stunning!! We would definitely stay here again!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, age 55+.

The day we moved in I inadvertently lost my wallet, car keys and phones in the ocean (don't ask). All our stuff was locked in the car. The owner could not have been kinder and more helpful in making sure we were taken care of and our children fed while we waited several hours for the rental car company to bring out a new key. The home is clean and comfortable with a beautiful beach out back, a fantastic cove for swimming and snorkeling, and a front-row seat for sunsets. There is hardly any need to leave the house! We loved our stay and the kids are already asking when we can go back. Thank you again for making our trip a wonderful experience.Recommended for: Families with young children, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.

My family and I stayed at Hale Honu for a little over a week to celebrate the new year 2010. It was the perfect location for the 6 of us. The house was very comfortable and felt like home. There was plenty of space for everyone. The waves were a little rough in december on the north shore, but we found calmer waters a short drive away. It was fun watching the surfers every morning. The Lanai doesn't get much sun, so good for those who like to avoid sunburn. You could hear the waves at night from all the bedrooms, and two of the bedrooms have windows to a beautiful ocean view. The house was well equiped with everything we could need from boogie boards, surf boards, beach chairs, linens, and well equipped kitchen. Truly a lovely vacation.Did you find this review helpful? We stayed at this beautiful house for 1 week and completely fell in love with it. The view from the veranda, living, room, master bedroom, and bedroom with queen size bed was SPECTACULAR. The home had all the amenities of a hotel with the comfort of home. The home is literally steps away from the beach (if you want to swim you'll have to go a few yards to either side of the home as there are large rocks on that portion of the beach) and is centrally located on the North Shore so you can get to any other beach in minutes. And yes we were lucky enough to see turtles everyday, including taking photos with one that came on shore to sunbathe. The family and I hope to rent this home again for many years to come. Mahalo for the stay.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 6/6

The description of this home offered by the owner is everything they depict and much, much more. This house was extremely clean and well maintained. The owners are humble in their representation of the property. The home contained modern appliances, including a top of the line washer and dryer. The views from the master bedroom are fantastic. The bed was comfortable and the owners provide ample pillows, towels (including beach towels). The outdoor shower was great. The beach out front was incredible. The sea turtles came for a visit daily and fed off of the rocks adjacent to this property. We awoke one morning to a small school of sting rays swimming by and enjoyed amazing sunsets daily! This is a great home for small children. There are two swimming holes (one to the right of the home and another to the left) which are sheltered by the waves. These little tidal pools provided hours of entertainment for our 2 and 4 year old grandchildren. We would highly recommend this property. After driving the entire island of Oahu on this trip, we feel strongly that the North Shore is the place to be if you want a relaxing vacation. The town of Haleiwa is quaint and offers several nice dinning spots. (Haleiwa Joes and Jamesons were both excellent). Sharks Cove is a MUST for those who like to snorkel. I would highly recommend this home to anyone seeking a rental. Enjoy!
