Location: Columbia Heights, Washington, District of Columbia, USA (Columbia Heights Metro Station)
Accommodations: Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath (Sleeps 4)
Keywords: Apartment - Top Floor of House
This charming apartment is the entire 3rd floor of an historic row house in the dynamic neighborhood of Columbia Heights.
It is separate and private with a door at the bottom of the stairs, but the entry is through the main house where I live. You may come and go as you please. I'm a writer & work at home.
LOCATION - Located only HALF-BLOCK from Columbia Heights METRO station, (Yellow/Green line) it is only ten minutes to most tourist sites - Smithsonian museums, US Capitol, National Theater, Convention Center, Zoo, Rock Creek Park.
WHAT'S NEARBY? - Within 2 blocks you will find dozens of restaurants and cafes, a wine-bar, neighborhood pub, 2 coffee shops, a wine store, Starbucks, a Grocery Store, 24 hr. CVS drugstore.
DC-USA shopping center with Target & Marshals. (Travel light and buy it all here!)
Other neighborhoods with similar vibrant nightlife & restaurants - Adams Morgan, Dupont Circle, Mount Pleasant & U st - are an easy 15-20 minute walk, or one subway stop away.
Just three more stops along (no need to change trains) is the bustling Gallery Place/Chinatown neighborhood, with the MCI arena, Convention Center, American Art Museum, Spy museum, dozens of shops and restaurants, a 14 screen movie theater, even a bowling alley!
AMENITIES - The apartment has one bedroom with queen sized bed, a full bathroom and a separate living room with a comfy queen-sized sofa bed. There is a TV with cable & DVD in each room.
Wireless internet.
In the living room there is a kitchenette with refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee maker etc. - everything you need to prepare light meals. You have use of washer/dryer on 2nd floor.
CHILDREN - Because of the stairs I don't take children between crawling and about age 5. Older children are welcome. There is one aerobed available, making it possible for 3 children to share the living room. This is very crowded however and not recommended for longer than 4 nights.
Off street parking is available.
AVAILABILITY - Spring (March through June) fills fast. In high season, a 4 night minimum stay is required, unless there is a natural gap between other bookings. Please consult the calendar for availability.
Please give me a sentence or two about yourself in your reply.

Being "at home" in DC

We stay at Victoria's for 6 days and it was just fantastic feeling “at home” with all amenities of a 5 stars hotel. We travelled from Spain and since we started planning the trip, she helped us through the whole process. First day was booked, and being unable to find another place in town arriving at 2 am, she hosted us at her guest room and prepared a welcome snack and wine for us, just the beginning of a lovely stay. Her house is authentic; the apartment in the third floor is quite, super clean, cozy and beautiful. She has all details/amenities taken care; towels (many of them), information of the area, DVDs, internet and many other little details that make the whole difference, such as metro card. At first place, we were concerned about sharing house with the owner, but she is very independent and friendly, she took care of all our needs and answered all our questions and gave us suggestions, we really enjoyed it. As she said, she lives with a little dog Ginger and a cat. But if you do not really like pets, Ginger is also very independent and will not bother you more than saying hello when you arrive. The cat is so quite that we rarely saw him. The area is safe and her house is located 2 minutes walking from the metro, which allows you to visit the main tourist attractions in less than 20 minutes, very convenient. It is also 2 minutes from a 24 hours supermarket and many restaurants, as she explains in her description. It is great after a long day walking to be able to enjoy a good meal or a drink close to home. I have lived in DC, and knowing the city, I can assure you it is a fantastic and very reasonable price place to stay. If you do not speak the language fluent, it won’t be a problem, she is very understanding and helpful. Whenever we have the opportunity to come back, we know where we will be “at home”.

We stayed here four nights and had a splendid time. We took the Metro straight from the airport to the condo - a total of $4 for three of us - so much cheaper than a taxi would have been! We used the Metro the entire vacation and saved so much money. The condo is a one minute walk from a Metro stop. The Columbia Heights neighborhood was great. We loved 'The Heights' restauarant. Lots of great vegan options. We never felt unsafe but as always you have to be smart when you are in a big city. The condo itself was amazing for the value. It was clean and well cared for. The kitchenette was nice, we kept cereal/milk and light snacks at the condo to save money. All in all it was a great trip and we would definately recommend this unit.

My boyfriend and I stayed with Victoria for five nights and couldn’t have been happier. For such a low price we weren’t sure what to expect, but this spotless apartment was exactly as pictured, with all the comforts and amenities you could ask for. It made for a quiet and cozy haven after a long day of touring the city - with one of the most comfortable beds I have EVER slept in! As others have commented, the location is ideal -- right in the middle of a vibrant neighbourhood and less than a two-minute walk from the Metro, drugstore, groceries and other shopping. We were only a short walk to a number of fantastic bars and restaurants, and never felt unsafe in the neighbourhood, even when walking home late at night. Victoria was gracious and accommodating, and her collection of restaurant menus and transit information -- as well as the Metro Smart Cards -- was a really helpful touch. Overall we had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend this location!

We had an awesome week staying at Victoria's place. The house was perfect and our area on the top floor was quiet, spacious and had everything we needed. The area around the house had many restaurants and shops. The fact that the Metro stop is located less than a block away was invaluable. Victoria was a host who offerred information on travel, food, etc that saved us money and time. Her dog Ginger was cute! All in all, we had a fabulous time in DC and saw just about everything we wanted to. Thank you Victoria for being a great host.

In my trip to East Coast, I stayed in three different HomeAway rental. This is, by far, the best. It is the cleanest, the most convienence, the most comfortable (even for 5 of us.) The hostess is also the best. She really took care of us. The only regret was that we could not spend time to chat with her more. This is the best place to stay in DC. 15 min from the National Mall, 20 from Union Station, ~30 from DCH airport (with direct subway).

My husband and I loved staying in this apartment. Victoria was a helpful but unobtrusive host, and the apartment was comfortable and very clean. It had everything we needed/wanted. Convenience shopping and the metro were extremely close, and we liked staying in a real neighborhood and getting a feel for the life of the city. Thank you for a great stay!

My husband and I have vacationed in Washington DC for the last three years and we always try and find a place that's both economical and in a great location. This apartment is in a very vibrant, lively neighborhood and it's super close to everything you could possibly want - stores, lots of great restaurants and public transportation. The apartment is very comfortable/homey and Victoria is terrific. Parking can be a bit of a problem (very limited space and you have to move your car based on the street cleaning schedule and commuter hours) but you really don't need a car because public transportation is so convenient.

The rental property was clean, attractive, and very convenient to the metro station and nearby commercial establishments. The owner was pleasant and welcoming. A great alternative to bland hotels. It was more fun to stay in a DC neighborhood but only be a metro ride away from all the museums and other mall attractions.

Perfectly Positioned Perch

I was so pleased to find a place that would allow me to come and go as I pleased. This perch is the perfect combination of independence and "pampering." Virginia anticipated needs as if by magic, whether air conditioning adjustments or offering the loan of transit cards. The parking situation worked out fine, no hitch as long as you mind the street cleaning signs! Once parked, I learned how to get well into Georgetown for long conference days on a single bus (even easier than subway and a long walk!) that departs a mere block and a half away. The Circulator was a great bonus, as well, just at the end of the block, and connecting to a network of crosstown buses that are perfect for touring on a hot summer day. Virginia was gracious and flexible before and during the stay, reimbursing the 'additional person' fee when I could not bring my children along for sightseeing as originally planned. We did not always cross paths, as I was departing in early mornings (as early as 5 am on public transit and feeling perfectly safe) and keeping late hours as well. Despite this, Virginia was so responsive, even providing a printed document late one night for a reservation after the local library printer failed me. I felt as if I were on an adventure that was made easier by the close access of places to eat, shop, and move on transit that offered more choices than I could access in the span of several days. Virginia's resource for tenants book was very complete, and the wireless internet service was lightening fast. The neighborhood made my stay much more pleasant than a DC hotel ambiance, and I was able to accomplish my stay within my per diem rates, all in the nation's capitol! I look forward to staying again for my conference next June!
