Location: Recoleta, Buenos Aires, Argentina, South America View Map

Accommodations:  Apartment, 2 Bedrooms + Attached Unit, 3.5 Baths (Sleeps 5)

Relive the history of Buenos Aires only 5 blocks from today’s Recoleta village. In 1894, when the country of Argentina was one of the wealthiest in the world with strong European ties, a Frenchman built this elegant residence on Calle Juncal. You can still feel the old world ambiance in the building’s beautiful church-like façade, tall ceilings, and architectural features, but you can also enjoy modern conveniences like a renovated "American style" kitchen and Jacuzi bath. This large two bedroom apartment (over 200 square meters) has a large master suite with king size bed, walk-in closet and separate bath, shower and toilet areas. There is a second smaller loft bedroom (with 2 twin beds) with its own bathroom with shower. A fully equipped office/study with television, DVD player, broadband internet access and wi-fi connection is tucked into a loft with skylight off the master bedroom. (There is also a very small bedroom (with bed slightly smaller than a twin) and bath in what was formerly the maid’s quarters which could accommodate a 5th person.) Recently renovated by the same architect who did the Art Hotel, the apartment features 15 foot ceilings in the living and dining areas and master bedroom. The apartment also contains some antiques and features art work by several local artists which we encourage you to discover and enjoy as much as we have. With each trip we make, we add to our collection of Argentine art in the apartment.

The apartment has its own private, elegant entrance with marble stairs up to the second floor (considered the 1st floor in Argentina - but there is NO elevator). World class restaurants, cafes, and gourmet grocery and wine shops are all in the neighborhood and within easy walking distance. Two blocks away you can enjoy the café lined Plaza Mitre for an early morning coffee before setting out into one of the most walkable cities in the world; three blocks in the other direction, you’ll find a Metro stop on Avenida Santa Fe. And with the apartment's central location in the city, everything Buenos Aires has to offer is a short taxi ride away.

Please note on some days when we have a guest checking in and out on the same day, the maid will not always finish the cleaning until 4pm, but you may checkin earlier on this understanding.

Bookings are not confirmed until the deposit has been received.

Owner's Map of Recoleta

Hi. I'm Hamish. I fell in love with Buenos Aires and bought this beautiful apartment in the historic and charming area of Recoleta from a retired couple who live just outside of Washington DC. You can share some of the excitement and interest I discovered by renting this truly unique and beautifully furnished 200 Sq M apartment yourself.

Folks from Memphis

This place is all it's supposed to be and more. Plenty of space and the two bedrooms are well separated for privacy. We stayed here in Jan. 2012 and loved the location. Very central to all major attractions and we walked to most of them. Close to the subway, many buses and taxis everywhere if you don't want to walk. Lots of restaurants nearby and plenty of food markets/ coffee shops/ and bottle shops. The 'maids bathroom' on the upper floor with large operable window was one of favorites. Wifi worked great. The master bedroom is a lot bigger and nicer than the second bedroom with two single beds so if two couples renting this apartment, some discussion needed. Ideal for a couple with three kids. 31/2baths is ample. Did I mention that the balcony is just big enough for two people with drinks and perhaps a cigar. One of the nicest/ cleanest apartment we have rented - anywhere.

just know the entry staircase is 30 stairs...we had too much baggage as we had been gone for over a month and a half. master bed and bath are great. just wish there was a washer. kitchen is very nice and well equipped. the art work and architecture are really fabulous. hamish was very responsive. the pictures were accurate and the house was even more intriguing than pictured. the property was very clean. second bedroom upstairs would be hard for a tall individual but doable. ac was great. location was great. ernesto was great for trip back to airport. would recommend for sure unless one has a problem w/stairs. only complaint was the mirror in the foyer made one look like they were in a fun house as you appeared so squatty it was frightening. nice having a powder room. liquor store two doors down was very accommodating. loved the recoleta cemetary--something that i never would have guessed. would return without question.

Exceptionally nice apartment in a great location. Very spacious and clean. Beautifully decorated. When we arrived, there were fresh flowers and a bottle of wine waiting for us. There was very little street noise in the apartment with none in the bedroom. Many nice shops and places to eat nearby. We would absolutely stay here again on future trips to Buenos Aires.

Everything about this rental was first rate and met all our expectations and more. The communications with the owner, Hamish, were excellent, prompt and informative; the manager, Marcela, and driver to and from the airport, Ernesto, were helpful and kind. The apartment was clean and well maintained with everything necessary provided. The neighborhood, which is near the fancy part of Recoleta, is convenient and "real" with everything we needed nearby, including supermarkets, wine stores, restaurants, shoe repair, etc. There are many good local restaurants, some of which deliver food. Tha apartment or (actually) house is beautiful-- even better than the photos. It has a separate entrance and stairway up to a private and large space. The decor is quite lovely with a great color scheme and impressive modern art. There are novels, books on Buenos Aires and Argentina, and a "house book" of information and suggestions. Each room has a fan, air conditioner, and heater, so guests can be comfortable. The kitchen is nice and stocked with dishes, etc. Marcela even met us with bottled water, a baottle of Malbec, and fresh flowers. There are multiple bathrooms, a great master suite,a TV room, and even an extra bedroom and bathroom that would be perfect for teenagers. In fact, the place is so nice that you feel you want to take good care of everthing. We would definitely recommend this lsting to friends, family, and strangers who want to live comfortably and well in Buenos Aires. In fact, we'd like to return to it. Its beauty, charm, and speace enhanced our visit! It offers so much more than a hotel room.

Charm and Character in a Wonderful Neighborhood

Guest: Sheila (Victoria, Canada)
Date of Stay: 02/04/11 Review Submitted: 03/28/11

We stayed in this charming apartment for two weeks and loved every minute of our stay. After walking around Buenos Aires for hours, it was such a treat to return to this classy apartment. It is very roomy, a perfect place for two couples, and in an excellent area, close to shops, restaurants, bakeries, and the subway. Each room has an air conditioning unit, but we preferred the overhead fans. The kitchen is well equipped, and the art, music and book collections add to the charm. The apartment is very well managed by Marcela, and was spotless when we moved in. Hamish, the owner, is extremely helpful, with advice on places to visit and restaurants to try. The instruction book is very informative as well. Unfortunately, we couldn't get this apartment for our third week in the city and the place we got through VRBO didn't compare in any way! We longed for our Recoleta home. A final note -when we arrived at the airport after a long flight, it was wonderful to be met by the driver arranged by Marcela. I would highly recommend doing the same ( especially since there can be unscrupulous taxi drivers at the airport ). I will be recommending this apartment to various friends planning trips to Argentina.

What a great apartment !!! We stayed in many vacation apartments over the years and this one is one of the nicest. As you can see on the pictures it has lots of character. During the renovation some very interesting architectural features were added but great old hardwood floors, baseboards, doors, etc kept. The combination of old and new makes this place so fantastic. The location on a nice street in Recoleta is really good as well. Short walk to the subte (metro/subway). Lots of nice restaurants and coffee shops in the area. Very safe. Marcela who is managing the apartment is very nice and helpful. You will have an option to book an airport pickup. Ernesto the driver is a very friendly guy. Definitely worth to book him to have a worry-free ride to the city. Well, there is one bad thing I have to tell you about. I liked BA, Recoleta, the Apartment so much that now a week after I came back I’m still in a deep post-vacations depression and instead of working I keep on checking air tickets to Argentina. Oh well, I’m sure I will go back soon.

Ok so the pictures looked nice and all but it wasn't until we actually arrived and walked into the place that we realized how freaking nice it was!!! . . . can I use the word "freaking" on VRBO.com? I think they are ok with it. Anyway I would stay there again in a heartbeat! The place was massive and well worth the money. I use VRBO.com for every city I travel to and I would have to say this is by far the nicest place for the amount I have paid. . . Trying to think of downsides so I can be a true critic. . . hmm. . . You have to lock like 4 different locks. . . but that kind of made it fun locking the place up since they were old traditional keys. Uhh. . . The ceiling in the bedroom with the two beds is low and the second guest bath is pretty small. I hit my head a few times trying to leave the room to walk down the stairs but that is just because I was half awake and hadn't had my coffee. Also Hamish the guy who owns the place was really responsive and had great recommendations in the area!!!

This property is located in a beautiful area and is lovely. Large living room and bedroom with excellent maid available as needed which we utilized. It is a large property with all conveniences nearby and within a 10-15 minute walk to major downtown area. Taxis are plentiful in the area. I would highly recommend this property as it is well maintained and the manager is courteous and knowledgable.

I stayed at this property from 1/12/2011 - 1/25/2011. Even before I arrived, the owner and his managing agent made me feel welcomed and relaxed. They assisted me with reserving a taxi from and to the airport and offered me additional details about the condo, the neighborhood and Buenos Aires in general. The condo is even nicer than it looks in the pictures. It is large but extremely comfortable. Off the the master bedroom there is a nice dressing area with double sinks and up a few steps from there was a room containing an enclosed whirlpool bath and a separate shower stall. Getting WIFI access was simple (especially since there is a booklet in the condo with instructions on how to use everything). The condo also has a great selection of music and books (including several guidebooks for Buenos Aires and the surrounding area). The condo is also conveniently located. It is off a major street and within a 1 block radius you have a large supermarket (a combination of K-mart, a liquor store & supermarket), convenience stores, pharmacy and restaurants. The taxi driver was at the airport waiting to take me to the condo. The managing agent was at the condo when I arrived to greet me, show me around the condo and give me local tips. The red line of the "subte" or "subway" is only 3 blocks away (we took it to the zoo, downtown and to restaurants). As the condo is off a main street taxis were always available. I will certainly stay here when I return to Buenos Aires.
