Welcome to Sunrise at Sol Point.
We have been awarded a 4 1/2 star rating by CanadaSelect for a superior accomodations.

Located on one of the most scenic stretches of coastline in the Maritimes, Sunrise at Sol Point will exceed your expectations in both comfort and incredible bold ocean views.

This converted and fully renovated former fish plant is perched on a cliff directly on the edge of the ocean. So close to the water is the house that at high tide the water actually laps the foundation piers the house sits on. It is located in the authentic working fishing village of West Dover just 3 miles from Peggy's Cove.
The house borders the Peggy's Cove preservation area that offers unspoiled beauty. There are no houses from here to the village of Peggy's Cove and the coastline has been protected from any future development.

A major Hollywood motion picture "The weight of water" with Sean Penn was filmed here, including some scenes right inside the old boathouse still standing on our property.

The property is located down a long driveway off a dead end road away from all traffic. The only passers by you will see are the local fishermen who still go out every day in their boats to check their lobster traps and fish nets set just off the coast. These fishing boats steam by just 30-60 feet from the living room windows.

The house is large and has 4 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. There are oak hardwood floors throughout.
All the bedrooms have queen size beds. There are no stairs to climb as all the rooms are on the same level.

The kitchen is well layed out and roomy. The counters are finished with granite. All cooking utensils are supplied and you will be able to prepare any meal from frozen dinners to locally caught lobsters.
There is a very large oak table that provides comfortable seating for 8 in the dining part of the livingroom.

The living/dining room which is open to the kitchen is huge. Almost 1,000 square feet in size with a 17 foot high vaulted ceiling surrounded on 3 sides by large windows. This gives you the feeling of living outdoors. The view covers 270 degrees of nothing but water, un-inhabited islands and breaking waves in the distance.

The only other homes you can see from inside ore the ones across the harbour in East Dover close to a mile away. Enjoy the panoramic ocean views while seated in the comfortable living room furniture. There are even super soft blankets to cuddle up in if it gets cool.

    • We had a fabulous stay at Sunrise at Sol Point this past summer. We were amazed at how beautiful every thing was, the home, the scenery, it was absolutely wonderful and hard to leave behind! It was all we could have asked for to enjoy a vacation on the east coast. To see the whale and the seal come in for a visit was a highlight as well as visiting Peggy's Cove frequently. Thanks to Freda for suggesting the local lobster, it was such a fun experience! She was so nice and helpful, thanks so much Freda! We hope to return some day to your amazing property.

    • Our family tremendously enjoyed our week here this summer. The house is so welcoming, and has all the amenities you need! The view was spectacular. The kids enjoyed watching the mink, feeding the gulls and climbing on the rocks. Kayaking was a real treat! We also enjoyed the local flavor - the shack on the corner, the lobster pound up the road, the restaurant around the bend...All in all a relaxing and rejuvenating adventure!

    • My husband and I along with two other couples just returned from a week at Sunrise at Sol Point. What a wonderful week we had! We have rented homes in several locations and this was by far the cleanest most comfortable home we have ever stayed in. The views were so amazing, I would have loved to stay another week to just sit in the living area and enjoy the views. We spent a lot of time traveling around the coast and found there was quite a bit to enjoy within very short distances. A GPS we took along helped us to easily find many of the sites we wanted to see. But the best site of all was right outside the windows of Sunrise at Sol Point. Thanks to the owners, Wilco and Kathy for sharing their home with us. This was the first home we had rented where the owner contacted us during our stay to make certain everything was to our satisfaction. This shows the sincere devotion they have to making every guests stay the best it can be. I will treasure the memories we made during our week and hope that we can return another time to enjoy all that this home has to offer.

    • Over a year ago, our kids suggested we choose a place anywhere in the world to go for my 60th birthday. I had always wanted to see Nova Scotia and so began the online search for accomodations. We needed a big house -- this is 4 spacious bedrooms including a master suite with its own beautiful bathroom. We wanted a house near the water and not too near other houses --- this house is at the end of the road on a small penisula by itself and the waves literally lap up around the piers that support the house! And we didn't want to be too far from Halifax --- it was about an hour drive from the airport. When we arrived, we simply could not get over how spacious and beautiful and bright and new and well-equipped and beautifully-situated the house was! To say it met our expectations would be a gross understatement! The first day there we were entertained not only by the seals and shorebirds that graced the waters right outside the windows (which offer a 270-degree panorama of the ocean, but also by a Minke whale surfacing and feeding! The caretakers told us it appeared only once a year, so we felt blessed to see it! We enjoyed everything from beautiful sunny weather to a first-hand encounter with Hurricane Bill. The waves breaking over the farside of the islands in the distance were awesome! The beauty and detailed appointment of the inside of the house cannot be captured on camera, although, you'll be tempted to try. Cannot say enough about the friendliness, graciousness and attentiveness of the caretakers Lawrence and Frida Morash, and owner Wilco van den Burg. Our trip from start to finish was one never to forget. For a really special time of your life, don't miss Sunrise at Sol Point!

    • What a beautiful setting for a relaxing vacation exploring the coast of Nova Scotia. The house was just as advertised and more. Our only regret is we could not stay longer. Thanks to the van den Burg's and the caretakers, the Morash's, for their hospitality.

    • My wife and I, together with 3 other couples, rented Sunrise at Sol Point for a week this summer. We all had high expectations and these were greatly surpassed. The gorgeous home is even better than described, and the lovely pictures don't do the property justice. It is spacious, clean, and wonderfully equipped with new stainless steel appliances (including a wine fridge!). The views are spectacular. The building has been lovingly rebuilt to resemble the original fish plant, so it fits the local ecology to a tee. There's lots to do in the area - we spent happy days hiking, sightseeing (Peggy's Cove is next door; Halifax, Grand Pre, and Lunenburg are easy drives), cycling and kayaking. We enjoyed seeing bald eagles, seals, herons, and other wildlife. We would definitely recommend this spot to all who love spectacular coastal settings and the highest quality accommodations. And by the way, there is a cable internet connection that was not advertised, so came to us as a pleasant suprise.

    • We stayed at Sunrise at Sol Point from June 28 to July 5, 2009. The views of the ocean and surrounding islands are unmatched and spectacular even on days when the weather did not cooperate. The house is magnificent and immaculately kept. It looked like something out of Architectural Digest. The 1000+ square foot living/dining area was our favorite spot in the house. It is surrounded by windows overlooking the water on three sides; a spot where we were able to watch fishing and lobster boats pass by. All but one bedroom had a water view. The caretakers, Laurence and Frida, were extremely welcoming and helpful, making us feel at home instantly -- even sending over freshly caught mackerel for a delightful dinner (prepared by our CIA chef Ed). For a peaceful, quiet and stress free vacation, Sunrise at Sol Point is the place to visit. We loved it!

    • We decided to try the East Coast for a family vacation this year and stayed at Sunrise at Sol Point from Oct 4-11, 2008. The name says it all. What an amazing sunrise you wake to every morning! There are breathtaking views from every window in the house. The house it self is beautiful and easy accommodated our 7 adults. We couldn't have chosen a better place to stay!

    • We stayed at the West Dover house this past July. We brought our mother there for a surprise 60th birthday gift. She loved it!!!! We all loved it. The house is beautiful, the view is AMAZING, and it was one of the most relaxing vacations we've had. If you want to relax, have a glass of wine, read a book, spend time with your family, and see the sights of Nova Scotia....this is the place to stay. We will be back someday. It was everything we hoped and MORE.

    • We enjoyed a fantastic long weekend in May at this great vacation rental. The 360 degree view and sound of waves lapping the shore are the essence of a superb ocean front location. The house is amazingly spacious and so well-equipped for every creature comfort. Our particular favourite was the cozy lap robes we used to sit out on the deck and watch the sunrise and the lobster boats. We visited as a multi-generational family to attend our daughter's graduation and it worked very well. The kitchen is fantastic and easily accommodates multiple cooks. My husband used a kayak to explore the bay. There is loads of parking too, which even accommodated our 30ft trailer with ease. The seniors especially haven't stopped talking about what a great place and experience it was to stay there together. I am sure that with the caring and attention to detail of the owners and the custodians many more families will share similar happy experiences in this dream of a vacation home. I highly recommend that you go for it, and enjoy!
