Located in Gulf Mist, a single-street, family-friendly, charming neighborhood with fewer than 15 Old Florida-style cottages, Blue Moon will welcome you to sit on the front porch and relax in the old-fashioned white wooden porch swing. With high ceilings and open floor plan, this 3 bedroom 2 bath, 1-story home lives much larger than its 1400 square feet! With its crown moulding and hardwood floors, the Great Room is beautifully but comfortably furnished and decorated in shades of blue, green, sand, and coral - all natural colors found nearby in the incredible beaches of South Walton landscape. The gas fireplace is available for 3+monthly rentals ( connection fee & monthly gas useage fee).
Adjoining this central family-gathering room and underneath an arched opening is the dining area with a large table and seating for 6. The compact but cheerful and efficient kitchen still has room for a portable butcherblock island, a pantry, and a pass-through to the Great Room that doubles as a breakfast bar with 2 stools.
The lovely master bedroom is surprisingly spacious with lots of great natural light and crisp, bright colors on the walls, bedding, furnishings, and unique accessories. You'll love the private master bath's large whirlpool tub surrounded with decorative tile, 2 oversized pedestal sinks with circletop mirrors and shelves, and huge linen closet. Both bathrooms and the kitchen have easy-care tile floors!
With the other two bedrooms located on the opposite side of the Great Room, Blue Moon's floor plan provides both privacy and shared family spaces. All three bedrooms are very nicely furnished with inviting cottage-style headboards, night tables, chest of drawers, and dressers just perfect for your casual beach lifestyle. With oodles of closet space, large windows, and hand-chosen decorative art and accessories, you'll be hard-pressed to choose your favorite bedroom. The second bathroom, with convenient access from both bedrooms and the Great Room, has sparkling white tile, a pedestal sink, storage cabinet, and full tub/shower set against a deep blue wall color and punches of sunshine yellow.
After you've rinsed off the beachsand in the backyard's outdoor enclosed shower, step inside from the rear entrance to the hallway, and drop your beach towels in the full-size washer and dryer, hidden behind louvered doors when not in use. The backyard is also where you'll find the barbecue grill; and just around the corner is the large locking storage room that's perfect for beach chairs, floats, and bicycles (bike NOT included - either BRING your own bikes or RENT one very nearby).
With access from the dining area's French doors or from the semi-circular drive in front of Blue Moon, the secluded pergola is entirely enveloped by fragrant Confederate jasmine and honeysuckle in bloom for much of the year. It's a perfect private retreat shaded throughout the day - from early morning coffee, to lunchtime burgers at NEW bistro table & 4 chairs, until day's end with a nightcap.
You will absolutely fall in love with Blue Moon, the charming and quaint neighborhood of Gulf Mist, and Seagrove's slightly slower pace but high quality of living with the best amenities money can buy (just not your money!) at SEASIDE and WATERCOLOR RESORT. Because "Blue Moon," our charming Florida-style cottage with a brand new screened front porch and with a private, shaded pergola covered in fragrant jasmine & honeysuckle, has been our private retreat used exclusively by us, the owners, since we purchased it, it was new to the rental market in Jan. 2007. We are now making it available for our wonderful Snowbird guests to spend their fall and winter months with us from October 1st through March 31,2010. (For short-term/weekly rental of 2BR/2BA beachfront condo on Okaloosa Island/Ft. Walton Beach, check out The Palms Unit#405 our other VRBO listing #230972. For longer-term (2+ months)guests at BLUE MOON ONLY,you may use the gas fireplace for an additional monthly fee + deposit +connection fee. About the owner: My husband & I have lived on the EmeraldCoast since graduating from college (my husband graduated from The Citadel in Charleston, SC & I graduated from the University of Tenn. in Knoxville, TN) for 35+ years. This is where we pursued our careers & raised our daughter. In 2000 my husband retired as President of Metric Systems, a defense electronic firm in Ft. Walton Beach, FL. Since his retirement, he has stayed very busy managing our long-term rental properties and enjoying his weekly golf game. We are both active in our church, our social circle, and excited about becoming grandparents for the first time on May 25, 2011. After graduating from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA in 2002, our daughter moved to the Washington DC area to pursue her career in finance. In 2006 she & her husband David, also a Tulane graduate, got married & bought a home in Arlington, VA. Now they are a family of 3! My husband & I have been investors in long-term rental properties as well as vacation properties in both Okaloosa & Walton Counties since the late 70's. We have owned condos, townhouses, an apt. complex, and houses on Okaloosa Island, Destin, Miramar Beach, Grayton Beach, and here in Shalimar (near FWB) where we live. Living on the water has been a huge part of our lives! We love boating, water skiiing, & going jet skiing. For many years, my husband entertained out-of-town visitors (both business & personal) by taking them deep-sea fishing on one of Destin's fabulous charter boats. We are strong supporters of the Children in Crisis Center (CIC) through our church, and are life-long supporters of the Panhandle Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) & several other local animal welfare organizations. We have both served on the Board of Directors of PAWS and have continued in an active volunteer role since then.
Why the Owner Chose Gulf Mist:
Since our purchase of a vacation home in Grayton Beach back in 1979, we have always found the communities along Highway 30A to be near to our hearts. So it is no surprise that we were once again drawn to Old Seagrove in 2006 when we purchased Blue Moon. We were never fans of 'McMansions' and love the genuine Old Florida character of Seagrove -- its lifestyle, residents, & more human-scaled architecture reminiscent of the old Florida cottages. We fell in love with Blue Moon at first sight and remain enamored with it to this good day! It is charming, romantic, filled with light, furnished with the true colors of the beach & its sky & landscape, and evokes easy living with its open concept floor plan. The high ceilings, plentiful natural light, & floor plan allow it to live much larger than its modest 1400 sq. ft! But we didn't sacrifice space in the master bedroom or bath! Having both the other bedrooms with their adjoining bath provides us privacy when we have guests staying over. My favorite spot is the shady pergola covered with fragrant jasmine & honesuckle, which remind me of my Southern roots. There I can enjoy my morning coffee or my evening wine, enveloped in the fragrance & sheltered from view by its exuberant growth. We were attracted to Gulf Mist, a quaint 1-street neighborhood populated with both permanent residents & seasonal guests, all of whom love our pool secluded at the end of the cul-de-sac. Of course, we are ONLY ONE BLOCK FROM THE BEACH!! Walton Co. does a superb job of acquiring, building, & maintaining these public beach accesses with restrooms, beach walkovers that are wheel-chair accessible. We love being so close to Seaside & WaterColors -- the restaurants, shops & entertainment events.
