Romantic getaway

Date of Stay: 04/24/12 Review Submitted: 05/17/12

My husband and I spent a great week at El Primero, some days we just hung around Santa Fe and others we hit the road running! We traveled through Georgia O'Keefe country and all through the Taos area and ski valley range. We even managed to hike Bandelier park to see the Indian ruins...faboulous! On our last day we went to the "Estrella Del Norte Vinyards" loved it and of course had to order a case of wine to be shipped to us. This was such a relaxing vacation for us and knowing that we had "El Primero" waiting at the end of the day was comforting. The bed was a dream boat and we woke up every morning to the birds singing and had a fire in the Kiva fireplace most evenings. The kitchen is very complete and we cooked several meals and ate on the front porch and watched the world go by...it was a very serene and calming way to end the day. I would recommend this comfortable ,charming home to anyone and we hope to return again. The owner was very helpful in every way and we really enjoyed her knowledge of the history of this old home and the area. Thanks Linda, hope to see you soon!

New Year's Weekend 2012

El Primero is a perfect base for a Santa Fe vacation for a couple. It is well located, very "Santa Fe" atmospheric, very comfortable. It is also well located in the rail yard area and within walking distance of the Saturday Farmers Market and the excellent restaurant La Ristra. Linda was a wonderful hostess, a fount of local info and stories about the historic property. Thanks, Linda!

I have used VRBO many times in the last several years and this is probably the best rental property in which we have stayed. The location was great, walking distance to the plaza, the photos were accurate, is was very clean and well supplied. This will be our choice when we return to Santa Fe.

Great location, comfort, and charm

We stayed six nights at La Casa Santa Fe in El Primero. The apartment has great ambience and comfort. The kitchen is well-equipped and the bed is comfortable. The location is great. We walked to the State Capitol which has a great art collection and to the Plaza and restaurants. Linda provided lots of great suggestions. Be sure to check out her website which is a complete travel guide in itself. Linda recommended the Cumbres-Toltec narrow-gauge steam train. The scenery on the train trip is spectacular, and we had the added benefit of glorious fall color in the aspens. Be sure to go all the way from Chama to Antonito. We highly recommend La Casa Santa Fe.

Wonderful Experience!

Guest: Susan Braidwood (Toronto, Canada)
Date of Stay: 07/30/11 Review Submitted: 08/09/11

We originally planned on 4 nights, but because of flight delays, we only had 3. Definitely our loss, since the house is wonderful and we really enjoyed Santa Fe. The photos accurately represent the property. It was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The location is excellent, an easy walk to the plaza. We loved the neighbourhood. The kitchen is very well equipped, but if you don't want to cook, there are many great restaurants nearby. Linda, the owner, provided us with lots of information on the area. Unfortunately they were scheduled to leave on their own vacation the day after we were originally scheduled to arrive, and with our late arrival, we didn't get to meet them. No problem, since they have a long term tenant who showed us around when we arrived. I highly recommend El Primero and would definitely stay there again.

Charming and Comfortable

Date of Stay: 05/09/11 Review Submitted: 05/18/11

We just returned from a wonderful one-week stay at this casita. The location is great--close to the plaza area and Railyard, but not IN them--much quieter! The place is large for a one-bedroom and includes a king-sized bed. The living area is quite large and contains a large sofabed, two comfortable chairs, and tables to put our stuff on (often missing elsewhere, we've found). The kitchen is unusually well equipped and the bathroom is larger than in many places--has a small bathtub/shower combination. It even includes lots of shelving for your toiletries (another feature often missing). Be sure to dine at Dinner 4 Two on Guadalupe. It's not far, and the food is spectacular and reasonably priced for a fine dining restaurant. Pronzo--in the Sanbusco Center--is even closer. Great pasta & pizza. Thanks, Linda, for a comfortable home-away-from-home!

New Years in Santa Fe

Guest: Happy Diner (Burlingame, CA)
Date of Stay: 12/28/10 Review Submitted: 01/03/11

We just finished a great four-night stay at the Casa and Santa Fe area. Thanks to Linda for sharing such great accommodations and especially well equipped kitchen. Our visit included low temps and lots of snow so we appreciated evening time in front of the kiva fireplace. My husband had never seen one (his first visit to SF) and adored it. Very warm! Linda took great care of us and shared snow scraper and coffee travel mug for our early AM exit to Albuquerque. We enjoyed a great New Years Eve dinner at Koi. Tomasita's and O'Keefe Cafe were also big hits. Galleries were wonderful, especially the high end, as all proprietors were very welcoming. We learned a lot about local and regional art. We also were glad we purchased $20.00 four day pass to Museum of Indian Arts & Culture, Museum of International Folk Art, Museum of Spanish Colonial Arts, New Mexico Museum of Art , Palace of the Governor's/New Mexico History Museum. We hit four out of five. Navaho rugs at Wheelwright Museum "Nizhoni Shima': Master Weavers of the Toadlena/Two Grey Hills Region" were also thrilling.

We enjoyed our week's stay in October very much. The listing & photographs were very accurate. The house is roomy and comfortable, one rainy night we had a fabulous fire that made the living room especially colorful and cozy. The heating works well and was welcome on cold mornings and chilly evenings. The property was very clean and the kitchen and bathroom nicely stocked with necessities. Linda was delightful to share a glass of wine with and visit about the house, needed services & Santa Fe. It is a couple blocks further from the Plaza than other rentals but an easy walk and no traffic or tourist bustle. We felt very at home, and will return when visiting Santa Fe again, which we would love to do. Museum Hill, Canyon Road, Bandalier Monument -- fabulously enjoyable sites.

Easy access and parking into downtown SF. Just a few blocks from the square, yet in a very quiet neighborhood. We used all the amenties, including the wifi -- which was nice to have as we planned the day's events. The full kitchen is nicely appointed and we used it 1-2x each day. Having a kitchen also allowed us to budget for a superior dinner out. The SF Farmer's Market is just a few blocks away, too, an easy walk on a Saturday or Sunday morning. What a way to start the weekend! The proprietor's pride of ownership is easy to see, and this translates into a comfortable, tidy, and cozy experience.

This was a last minute weekend getaway for us. How lucky we were to have spent it at La Casa! Though we arrived late in the evening, the owner, Linda, was awaiting our arrival with a warm smile. Despite the fact she had to get up early the next day, Linda was generous enough to chat with us, sharing the history of the home and giving indispensable insight on the area (where to shop, where to get a delicious and reasonably priced meal, etc). At La Casa, every detail has been thought of - from the outfitted kitchen to the luxurious towels and soaps in the bathroom. Everything you need is within walking distance - we would drive to a destination only to laugh when we realized it was a short walk from La Casa. We'd recommend La Casa to anyone and hope to get back soon!!

Hiking and opera

Guest: Clif (Signal Mountain, TN)
Date of Stay: 07/03/10 Review Submitted: 07/13/10

We spent a week at La Casa (our second visit)--grandparents in our 70s and a granddaughter age 11--and had a grand time. La Casa is perfectly situated for walking to the plaza area, the farmers market, and the galleries of Canyon Road. We had easy access by car to the thoroughfare that leads to the opera, Bandolier, Los Alamos, and the many hiking trails in the region. Santa Fe Opera is a unique venue for opera lovers. Comfort and convenience are the hallmarks of La Casa which we found clean and well-maintained. The owner lives in the building and was helpful throughout. Nearby Ristra restaurant is one of the best that we have visited anywhere.

Peace and quite in Santa Fe

We spent a good deal of time researching a place in Santa Fe, I'd have to say we got lucky and found El Primero! We had a great time, plenty to do and plenty of time to relax in front of the fireplace. If you're searching for a place that has easy access (walking) to the plaza and railyard area this is a great place. Linda was a great help for places to see and most importantly places to eat! Also was she gave us help giving us directions to the ski slope and a great place to snowshoe. We found the nice details of fresh flowers, plants, complementary coffee and a nice bottle of wine was a special touch, we enjoyed both. We felt we were staying in a place of history, a building over 100 years old to be quaint and comfortable. We will be sure to stay at El Primero the next time we visit Santa Fe.

Linda, thanks for contributing to our recent wonderful week in Santa Fe! The accomodations were very comfortable & quiet and you provided everything we needed. The location is great too......within reasonable walking distance to the plaza, grocery stores and all that awesome Santa Fe food. I especially appreciated your assistance with obtaining and arranging beautiful flowers for our arrival on Valentine's Day. We are already looking forward to visiting El Primero and seeing you again, later this year.

El Primero was our home away from home for a wonderful week in Santa Fe this December. No rental property has ever made us feel so very comfortable. The living room is charming. We spent many pleasant evenings planning our next day with the generous coffee table covered in brochures. The kitchen/dining room is a delight in which to prepare and enjoy meals. All the required good quality appliances and equipment are within easy reach. The satin-sheeted king-sized bed is very comfortable and the bedroom offers a generous hanging cupboard and chest of drawers. We were too busy to take advantage of the well- stocked bookcase but we did appreciate the WIFI and all the available channels on TV. The location of El Primero is ideal. It is truly within walking distance of the downtown Plaza and other attractions, as well as the Railyard development, a bike ride away from Canyon Road, and an easy drive to Museum Hill. The off-street parking gives easy access to the front porch and door. Last but far from least, Linda, our host, was most helpful with suggestions and recommendations.

We stayed in LaCasa Santa Fe for the entire month of October. We had a wonderful vacation and this was great base of operations and a fantastic value. This vacation rental was by far the best equipped of any we have ever stayed in - fantastic kitchen and many amenities often skipped (paper towels, herbs, filtered water, TP, sugar and flour, tissues...). Having a home-like place to stay for a long trip is particularly important - who wants to eat out every meal for a month? Who can afford it?! There was nothing that we needed that we lacked. The bed was great. The location is everything advertised - you really can walk to the Plaza and we aren't young or spry! It is quiet but the street you need to get anywhere out of town is one turn and a few blocks away. We were impressed and happy for our month. Thanks Linda.

Our visit to Santa Fe was particularly enjoyable because of staying at La Casa Santa Fe. It provided us with a very comfy place to stay with every conceivable thing we needed (and more!!) as well as easy, walkable access to the Plaza and environs. When we wanted to us our car, it was oh so easy to get where we wanted from La Casa Santa Fe, an important consideration, given that Santa Fe can be hard to negotiate by car sometimes. We have stayed in SF many times and this was certainly one of our nicest experiences. Linda was very helpful, not to mention a wealth of information about our place and its history, which we particularly appreciated.

We loved the front porch to enjoy meals, rain storms etc. Linda is a great person, very friendly and eager to be a great guide to Santa Fe and the surrounding area. We have never done a vacation rental before but would definitely do it again. Santa Fe is a good base to do various hikes in the area or just enjoy the city.

We had the pleasure of a 10 day stay in El Primero over the Christmas/New Year holidays. Linda is a most gracious and helpful hostess and has provided many amenities that make stays here so pleasant -- super comfy bed and bedding, well equiped kitchen, fast internet, comfortable furniture, interesting reading material (loved the Hillerman), and information about the area including a very helpful walking map. The bathroom is cozy and utilizes a water saving device in the shower, but there is ample storage for "bathroom stuff" and the water pressure and temperature are spot on! The unit is close to shopping and good restaurants. We were there during a particularly cold and snowy time: the casita could become a bit chilly, but a combination of kiva fireplace, space heaters and warm socks made things just right. We use vacation rentals on a regular basis and this was one of the best equiped and a great value. Hope to return (in warmer weather when the walking will be a bit easier!). We recommend El Primero highly.

My husband and I were married outside of Santa Fe in June, and we stayed at El Primero for two weeks on either side of our wedding. It was a lovely experience... from the beautiful flowers and bottle of wine that Linda had waiting for us when we arrived, to the extremely comfortable bed, the great kitchen, and the high ceilings that give the place such a spacious feel. The neighborhood is charming too, and quite convenient to the plaza. It was the perfect place for us to have a private space, away from all the (wonderful) madness of the wedding, and we'll absolutely stay at the Sena home again, on future trips to Santa Fe!

My stay in El Primero from May 1-6 was perfect! El Primero in the historic Jose D Sena House was very clean, comfortable, it had luxurious linens and is totally Santa Fe with the old adobe walls and beautiful kiva fireplace. After walking everyday, I would say "I'm going home"...that is what it felt like. I love walking and was able to walk from that location to the Plaza, the DeVargas Mall, Canyon Road, Trader Joe's, basically anywhere I wished to go. It was great. And, Linda created the best map for me...marking all the places that I wanted to see on my walking tours. She was so nice, very helpful and a perfect hostess. You could tell she really cares about her guests. I really enjoyed my trip, enjoyed Linda, and I would definitely rent here again.

El Primero fit the bill for what we wanted in a casita in Santa Fe for the week we stayed there. First, it was priced well for the market and afforded us more privacy and Santa Fe style than a hotel room priced three times as much in one of the larger hotels off of the square. Second, it was large enough to be comfortable with a wonderful fireplace and all the modern conveniences for communications, entertainment, and cooking. Third, it is located in a wonderful spot - close enough to walk to the square and environs but far enough away to not experience the noise and frenetic activity of Santa Fe on high speed when the tourists (like us) descend on the place. Finally, Linda provides the hospitality and information you need to get your bearings. All in all, I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

I highly recommend El Primero! I have never had such a good value at such a low price. The living room with its working fireplace was adorable and very homey, and the bedroom had a large comfy bed. The kitchen was larger than my own at home, with coffee and plenty of pots/utensils, and Linda, the owner, thoughtfully had left a bottle of wine for our arrival. Linda was very welcoming and the housecleaner had done her best to add nice little touches to the place. My friend and I were very impressed! So much nicer than returning each night to a hotel......

My wife and I stayed at La Casa Santa Fe, El Primero, from March 11 through the 17th. We found it to be quaint, comfortable, and very convenient to many of the sites for which tourists come to Santa Fe. Linda was very helpful and accessible when we had questions. The bed was very comfortable and the kitchen had everything you could ever expect to need. The shower was a bit on the small side, but if you are 6' 3" or smaller, your head will not hit the top. The towels were large and thick. The plaza and many good restaurants were within easy walking distance. We definitely recommend the place.

We stayed in El Primero post Christmas through New Year's day. It was beautiful, comfortable, and equipped with everything to make living there pleasant and memorable. From the thick, luxurious towels to the million-thread-count sheets, a thoroughly equipped kitchen (including condiments such as sugar, flour, spices and the like -- things you need but really don't want to go out and purchase), everything was so thoughtfully provided. Our hosts were very friendly and accommodating. Our highest praises and thanks to them for a wonderful stay.

My husband and I really loved our little "casa" in Santa Fe. The location is excellent- very close to the downtown action. The place is very well equipped (especially the kitchen) and exceptionally clean. The bed is cozy and comfortable and the fireplace really warmed us every evening. There are so many restaurants close by but our favorite was Aqua Santa, which is only a few blocks away! Outstanding ambience and delicious food.

We arrived on Thanksgiving day and were warmly received. The rooms are large and have a Victorian Santa Fe style, with plenty of windows and a high ceiling. The living room has a comfortable couch, a kiva fireplace, and a HD TV. The king size bed in the bedroom is very comfortable. The kitchen had all the tools we needed during our stay. We appreciated the many personal touches. The place is within walking distance to many sights. A great value and we will stay here again. A+

This is a great place to stay in Santa Fe! It really is within walking distance to the square and downtown restuarants, plus easy driving access to all parts of town. The house is decorated in the beautiful "Santa Fe Style" and was very comfortable. The owners were friendly and helpful. My only complaint was that the showerhead was a little low. We would definitely stay there again.

Charming, great location with easy walk to the Plaza. House has an interesting History for those of us who like historic properties. Hosts were attentive and accessible. Left a welcome bottle of wine and fresh flowers to make me feel welcome. VERY comfortable bed. Well equipted kitchen. Would definitely stay there again. Great value.
