Excellent hideaway - exactly what we needed

Guest: Nick-uk (Denver, CO)
Date of Stay: 05/11/12 Review Submitted: 05/20/12

Enjoyed the wood fire and fully stocked kitchen! Patio perfect for relaxing! Cabin is very clean and comfortable - close enough to Denver but still feels a million miles away, the town of evergreen is only 15 mins away which is great if you need anything. Micheal is an excellent host, this is the second of his properties that we have stayed it and will definitely be staying again.

Date of Stay: 04/19/12 Review Submitted: 04/25/12

My brother and I wanted a relaxing get together; time to visit, rest, and breath mountain air. The Wilderness Cabin was everything we could have hoped for and more. From the minute we arrived, it felt naturally comfortable. A smattering of books, a great variety of CD's and a small selection of DVD's took away the sterile feeling of living away from home. We brought our own food and that was truly all we needed. Michael has added his own flavor to this cabin and it truly was wonderful. He recommended a bike route that accommodated our all-terrain bikes and our less than professional status as cyclists. I would recommend Micheal's property to anyone who needs to refresh their soul and enjoy the pure natural environment and smells of the Colorado Mountains.

We had a great and relaxing time at the cabin. Michael Carter was a great host and advisor to us (we are from Louisiana- no mountains or snow) and gave us confidence in whatever we chose to do . We will definitely go back. Actually we arrived there on Feb. 19, 2012 but the arrival time on this site would only give me March.

Fantastic Mountain Cottage

Guest: Pete (chicago)
Date of Stay: 08/22/11 Review Submitted: 09/07/11

We loved the cabin from the minute we got there. Set in the foothills of Colorado, first thing you experience is the fresh air. The interior cottage is very well kept with a dishwasher, full size fridge, stove, microwave, coffeemaker, etc. We purchased groceries for the week and we prepared all our meals inside or on the grill. Can't praise the cottage enough you just have to rent it. Michael was available if there was anything that we needed.

Enjoyable Stay

Guest: grantwriter (Cleburne TX )
Date of Stay: 07/26/11 Review Submitted: 08/01/11

Just returned from a visit to Evergreen and vicinity and enjoyed our stay at the Wilderness Cottage. This property is well supplied and worked well for our family of four. We appreciated the comfy beds after a day of hiking and activities - they were definitely a step above some we have experienced in other rentals. The location is remote (15-20 mins to town/grocery), but scenic and we enjoyed lots of animal sightings. We had a rental SUV and were glad that we did not attempt it in our family minivan from the flat lands! Even though there is not wifi at this cabin, you can walk to access it at the office - plus there is a desk there for your use. Michael recommended some nearby hikes for us too. Overall a peaceful and relaxing stay.

Relaxing Holiday Weekend

Guest: Dave (Denver, Colorado)
Date of Stay: 12/31/10 Review Submitted: 01/03/11

My girlfriend and I decided to escape from Denver for the New Year's weekend, and we are really glad we did. What a relaxing weekend out of the hustle and bustle of the city. The cottage was very nice and it was stocked with everything we needed for a great weekend. The fireplace was amazing and we couldn't have asked for more comfortable accommodations. Michael did a great job with every detail, concise and specific. Bonus: If you clean up after yourself as you would at your own home, you even get your cleaning fee refunded. Great job Michael, you will be seeing us again.

Wedding Weekend

Guest: JohnDoe0016 (Washington DC)
Date of Stay: 10/07/10 Review Submitted: 10/19/10

The Wilderness Cottage was the perfect place to rest on a weekend trip for a friends wedding. Waking up to beautiful views as well as the amazing amount of stars at night was the perfect setting. The cabin is very well maintained and has most everything you need. The only addition I would make would be to add wifi.

Owner response:We always appreciate our guests suggestions for improvements and make every effort to review and improve when possible. Four of our VRBO Vacation Home listings come equipped with WiFi. The Wilderness Cottage does not have WiFi at the Cottage, and that information is very clear in the VRBO listing. Free WiFi for guests who stay at the Wilderness Cottage is always available at our on site office from dawn to dusk 7 days per week which is a short 250 ft. walk or drive down the driveway. This information describing the location of available WiFi for guests at the Wilderness Cottage is also clearly posted in the Cottage. If your stay requires your Vacation residence to have WiFi in the home please note that requirement to us upon your inquiry and we will suggest your lodging stay be at one of our Evergreen Colorado Vacation homes that has on site Wifi. Sincerely Michael

Great Mountain Place

Guest: John C. (Detroit MI)
Date of Stay: 08/15/10 Review Submitted: 09/17/10

Wow, what a cool place! The Wilderness Cottage is situated at close to 8,800 feet in elevation. You get to drive a fantastic mountain road to get there, and you get there to find a place that is in the middle of nature, quiet, and full of incredible scenery. The cottage itself is very clean, cute, and fun. The kitchen is nicely stocked with utensils, cookware, spices and the like to make the kitchen feel like home. The couches are comfy as are the beds. The deck is great, and using the grill while looking out onto the mountains is just fantastic. At night, with a slight wind, you will hear that majestic sound of the Colorado breeze rushing through the Aspen tress, which is just pure magic. The road leading to the cottage is twisty and turny, but believe it- you do not need 4 wheel drive to get up there. The road is fine, minus a few bumps, and normal car will do just fine. It is actually a lot of fun to drive the road leading to the cottage. I made it up and down multiple times over a week(in August) with my Malibu with no problems. In snow season, you would want to have 4 wheel drive. The town on Evergreen is seriously no more than 15-20 minutes away, full of great restaurants, parks, scenery, shopping, and just super nice people. The Wilderness Cottage combines the best of both worlds in that you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere, but really close to so much great stuff to do. The wildlife up there is amazing- while there we saw foxes, elk, deer, and lots of humminbirds(which frequent the deck). Michael(host and owner) is very accommodating. He seriously answers his cell phone every time you call to help you out. I never had one communication with him go to voice mail. Super guy and very easy to work with. Very prompt service and professional. Overall, the Wilderness Cottage is just a great place in an amazing area. And for the price, you just can't beat it. It's the perfect place to make some memories of a lifetime. Enjoy!

Cozy Retreat

Guest: Kathy (Lewes, DE)
Date of Stay: 06/20/10 Review Submitted: 07/04/10

What a perfect spot to come back to after a strenuous day of hiking or driving those Colorado "White Knuckle Drives!" We loved coming home to the quiet of Wilderness Cottage after exploring Mount Evans, Rocky Mountain National Park, St Mary's Glacier and the Red Rock Area. The cabin is cozy and the views are delightful. We had some fun wildlife sitings too: a bear, elk, deer, hummingbirds and the infamous Black Fox! Michael was an accomodatng host, totally respecting our need for a private and quiet retreat, yet available if needed. We hope to return someday!

The directions were very straight forward and we didn't get lost at all! We had a great time. We got engaged while we were staying there so it will always be special to us!!

This is the second time we have stayed in one of Michael's rentals. Both times it has been a positive experience. The cabin was clean and cozy. This is a yearly trip for my girlfriend and I and we will continue to rent a cabin from Michael each time we go to evergreen because we know we can expect a warm and coxy place to step into. Thank you for your hospitality Michael.

We recently stayed at the Wilderness Cottage for a 3-day weekend. The experience was wonderful. The weather was overcast and rainy but we were cozy in front of the fireplace, listening to music, watching movies or dancing in the kitchen (and even in the rain one evening). The cabin was clean, VERY well stocked with everything you could need (Michael is exactly right when he says all you need do is bring food)has great atmosphere and an all around delight. We very much enjoyed meeting Michael who made sure we were comfortably settled in and wanted for nothing. We will definitely return!

My mother, my sister and I stayed a week at the Wilderness Cottage in early May. As everyone else has said, it is a charming little place with everything you need for comfort and privacy. We got a 3 inch snowfall the second day we were there and the place was indeed beautiful, warm and cozy, just like the pictures suggest. The rest of the week we had beautiful sunrises, and as Michael says, every one of them is different. Michael was a gracious host, allowing us to use the wi-fi hook-up at his place, within walking distance, whenever we needed it. And he gave us helpful suggestions for places to go and things to do (horseback riding and trails in the area to hike, etc.) as well as driving directions to other areas. We would love to return. We highly recommend this home-away-from-home if you are looking for a place to stay near Evergreen.

Very nice clean cabin, we really enjoyed staying there. Bed was very comfortable and the water was hot. We enjoyed seeing all the wildlife from the deck , lots of mule deer-big and little, red fox, maybe a wild cat . We did see an all Black Fox with a white tail a couple times in the woods below the deck also walking along down the road toward the writers nest cabin. That is a very rare site! A very nice experience in our travels of places we have stayed. If you like the mountains, you will like anyone of these cabins. Sherry and Greg

We've just come home from staying in the Wilderness Cottage for the weekend. As a previous guest stated in his comments above the pictures do not do the cabin justice. It is charming, rustic, and up to date all at the same time. Everything was spotless and it was so easy to just feel at home and unwind on the sunny deck. We found the town of Evergreen only about ten minutes down the mountain and had fun listening to the band and eating fish and chips at Captain Jacks. I think being deep in the woods at the top of the mountain was our favorite part. Listening to the breeze through the giant pine trees, lying in the sun, and watching the beautiful sunrise. And our special thanks to Michael, who graciously gave us a tour of his other cabins which were close by. Each one was unique and beautiful. We loved our stay and are already planning when we can go back and visit again.

We had a great time at this cottage. The pictures really did not do the place justice - it was actually bigger than the pictures suggest. The surrounding area was beautiful and secluded as the description states. Plus, the manager made sure we were taken care of each time we called. In all, it was a great stay & I can't wait to do it again.
