Owner's Map of Semur-en-Auxois
Since before I can remember I dreamt of creating beautiful homes and invitng others to enjoy them and to share my love of France. Having spent my childhood years on holidays in the South, taking in the taste, smell and colours of all the produce in the markets, (but to young to enjoy the wine!), it influenced my decision to leave England when I was just 22 and set out on an adventure that I would not come back from. Meeting up and marrying Yannick whom I met in a local village not a thousand miles away from, 'Le Four a Pain,' we began our first building project.
Building and restoring, ‘Le Four a Pain,’ whetted our appetites for repeating similar projects in different areas of France, and finally come to rest in Burgundy where I had been working as a successful Chef for the American/French Barging Company.
Together, we found, ‘La Ferme de la Lochere,’ where we could finally have our own home and bring up our now expanding family and also run the new business of Specialised Gastronomic Vacations, private Gites, Bed & Breakfast & Wedding Planner.
I still commute from the local train station on the TGV to Lille and then Lille to London on Eurostar regularly as I have a very successful company as a chef for private clients.
It's been such a success that I have been included in the BBC Good Food magazine, provided Special Occasion Recipes in the newspapers, and was paramount in setting up the ready made farm meals for her local farm shop, ‘Foxbury Farms,’ who have since gone on to win many awards and have been featured in Country Living and after a successful screen test with the TV Cookery Channel, you never know - watch this space!

Burgundy's BEST

We have rented many properties in France and Italy but this "Fabulous Farmhouse" was truly fabulous. We were three couples from the US enjoying a spring week in Burgundy and found that this home was a perfect location for seeing the Burgundy sites. Returning home from markets each day to the fully equiped kitchen made our evenings on the patio magical. The descriptions and photos do not completely illustrate how clean, convenient and well appointed we found the home. Each morning a short walk to the bakery for coissants and bread was a treat. Our favorite day was the walk along the nearby Burgundy canal with a picnic lunch alongside. Owners were delightful and very helpful with travel suggestions. We were six adults, but there was so much room and privacy that there was room for more. Can't wait to go back!

My wife & I are U.S. expats living in Paris and we recently celebrated my wifes's 50th birthday at the Fabulous Farmhouse with friends. This place is perfect for a celebration! We had friends come from Paris & London and they all raved about the place. Catherine cooked the first 2 nights & she is a magnificant cook & host. The FF is located 5 minutes walk from the burgundy canal where everyone ran or biked every day - there is a dirt path along the entire canal. We even biked to other local towns along the canal for beers. The kitchen is tops - there is nothing you will need if you want to cook yourself and the grill was used almost every day. The bedrooms are almost all identical so no need to fight over them - very roomy with comfortable beds and new bathrooms. Catherines' husband Yannick took great care of us ensuring that the pool was always ready for use, the lounge chairs had their cushions, etc. Everyone went home knowing the the bar has been raised for 50th celebrations.

Our family included 6 adults and 2 children, ages 3 and 1, and the house was quite spacious for us all. The tiny road outside was great for small children to walk and play with supervision--they loved the little stream! The owners were very nice and accomodating. Katherine made us a wonderful dinner one night and made us a reservation on our last night at a 3-star Michelin restaurant that certainly gave us an incredible ending for our trip. She also arranged a babysitter for us. The many villages surrounding the area are all very picturesque and fun to visit while you're there. One word of caution might be to be sure to arrive early enough to go back out to the store for privisions as they all close by 7:15 p.m. (don't forget toilet paper and soap!).

What an honour and a privilege to be teh first guests at such a wonderful property. It is in an excellent location to explore the beautiful countryside. There is plenty of sites to see in the locality. We would recommend the Abbey at Fontenay and Chaeteau de Bussy Rabutin. Further afield, the town of Chateauneuf en Auxois and the Wine cellars at Nuits St Georges

We have just returned from a Christmas family retreat at La Ferme and we had a wonderful time. We were six adults and six children ranging from 2 - 9 years of age, and the spacious farmhouse easily accommodated all of us, without us in any way feeling squashed in - even in the middle of a very cold winter when we did spend quite a lot of time inside. The house is on a very quiet road in a quiet and picturesque village, so we felt free to let the older kids roam a bit - and play boat races in the stream outside. For anyone concerned about whether the house is safe for younger children, we had a 2 y.o. and had no issues. The only possible area of disquiet could be very little children climbing through the bars on the staircase, because it would be a long drop to the floor below, but otherwise the house is very safe and kid-friendly (as are the owners). I can state categorically that the property is exactly as beautiful as it is described here. The owners are very friendly and helpful. The best part was that the kitchen really is fabulously stocked - every possible appliance and SHARP knives - very unusual for even a high end vacation rental, so you really can prepare all the fabulous meals you have been dreaming of. The only real downside to our stay was that the central heating cut off quite a few times in the first few days - not something that you want to have happen in the middle of winter. To their immense credit, despite being away, the owners did make sure someone was there to fix it, even to the point of having them turn up three times on Christmas Day. Last point - it may be an hour from Paris on the TGV, but if you are driving, it's 3+ hours on the motorway. In hindsight, it's probably better and easier to take the TGV and rent the car from the train station.

The house is absolutely wonderful! My wife and I stayed at the house for a week with 4 other couples. The first floor bedroom is perfect for someone who has trouble with lots of stairs. It is away from the kitchen and living area and has great privacy. The 4 upstairs bedrooms are spacious and comfortable. having a bathroom for each bedroom was very nice. The kitchen is fantastic. We made dinner several nights during our stay and enjoyed eating out in the patio/courtyard. The pool looked great, but there was so much else to do that we didn't spend any time enjoying it. The location was very convenient for visiting the many local sites. The house is about 75 minutes from either Dijon or Beaune and is only about 10 minutes from Semur en Auxois, which is quite pretty and has a number of enjoyable restuarants. Katherine was very pleasant and helpful. All in all, the place couldn't have been better for our group. If we ever vacation in the area again we definately will stay there.
