Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Your hosts David and Justine Smythe are career hospitality professionals inviting you into their warm, comforting vacation home. David Smythe, 25 year Chef-professor at the Culinary Institute of America, enjoys carpentry and landscaping in his spare time. Justine Smythe, MBA Cornell Hotel School at Paris, offers concierge service to help you plan your vacation in the Catskills. The Smythes (who live just five minutes from the cottage in their Victorian B&B) delight in ensuring your vacation is relaxing and enjoyable - the perfect country getaway.

Why the Owner Chose Saugerties

The Smythes, residing in Saugerties for 25 years, decided to purchase a second home in the same Village because they love the surrounding area and also wanted a waterfront property to compliment their exisiting mountain view property. Having spent many years boating on the Esopus Creek, the Cottage on Esopus Creek finally came up for sale and the Smythes were delighted to be able to purchase the home at 210 Esopus Creek Road. Upon purchase, they applied their skills developed in renovating the Victorian to the cottage, investing time and resources to make the cottage as comfortable and inviting as their own home and B&B.

The Unique Benefits of this Waterfront Cottage

Guests at the Cottage on Esopus Creek not only enjoy the benefit of being in the country, they can also partake of all that the Hudson Valley and the Catskills has to offer. Saugerties is central to many villages and attractions, and Esopus Creek Cottage is just one mile to the center of the village for dining, shopping, and sightseeing. Close at hand are the Hudson River, the Catskill Mountains, Antiquing, Historic Mansions, and many other exciting venues. Esopus Creek cottage itself is the last house on the road, so the property faces the forest and creek, with plenty of wildlife sightings and privacy on the deck overlooking the water.
