Why the Owner Chose Chateau Aspen
High Alpine Haute Couture. If worshiping at the altar of the world’s top designers is your idea of holiday perfection, you will l-o-v-e Aspen. Head straight to Galena Street, Aspen’s Rodeo Drive, for retail therapy in all the legendary haute couture houses. Aspen is the only Colorado ski town to boast stand-alone Prada, Chanel and Vuitton stores. Go Gonzo. In 2005, gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson ended his life with a bullet at his home in Woody Creek, eight miles northeast of Aspen. But before his death Thompson – along with a host of other A-list stars – used to drink his whiskey at the community’s central watering hole, Woody Creek Tavern. Open only for dinner, the funky place is kitted out with loads of Thompson-related paraphernalia, and it serves delicious burgers to a packed house. This is where Johnny Depp, who played Thompson in the movies, and the writer became friends. Marooned in the Mountains. Aspen’s greatest asset is the out-of-this world scenery. In summer, hiking takes the sugary purple mountain cake. Try the Hunter Valley Trail, which leads through wildflower meadows into the Hunter-Fryingpan Wilderness Area. It’s an 8.5 mile uphill slog (if you’re not used to the thin air at 8,000 feet, take it slow) to the turn-around point, but you’re rewarded with a delightful solitary hot spring to soak in before heading back.
Sup With the Stars. To dine with the rich and famous, visit Jimmy’s American Restaurant & Bar. It serves steak and crab entrees (at tables pushed against graffiti-splattered walls — bring a pen to add your name and message) that taste as beautiful as the patrons look. The always packed bar serves 105 types of tequila and mescal.

Hi Venessa, I wanted to thank you for a terrific stay in Aspen. Following your advice, I hiked all the way to the top of the Highlands bowl, it was incredible. I loved Aspen and much prefer it to Vail. See you one of these days. Take care, Ivan

My husband and I were looking for a place to get away and relax and we just did not want to get in a car and drive. We were looking for a romantic in town location. When we got there we were so pleased with the location.Right in the heart of town.We were one block to the Gondola and we rented our skis the next block. We went to a charming Austrian restaurant the Weiner Stube right next door.Anyway the condo itself was wonderful.Romantic with a steam shower and the best bed I've ever slept in.W e also booked it in the summer and with the bike shop and the grocery store across the street just wonderful.
Recommended for:Girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, tourists without a car, sightseeing, families with young children.
