Property description

Guests tell me the photos don't do the cottage and property justice. Read our reviews. Very private. Clean. Lots of space. Drive down to the beach. The East side of Seneca Lake has lots of sun and beautiful sunsets. New 100 foot dock. New windows and doors. Close to wineries, college campuses, and Sampson State Park. Ten miles from Geneva for shopping, movies, and food. Two Five Star restaurants within 15 miles. Each year we renovate another part of our little cottage and many of our guests and their pets return every year. One bedroom with two double beds and a large living room with one pull out couch can sleep 4. Cottage is 880 square feet so best for 2-4 people. Cozy but maybe too small for anyone over 6 foot 2. New kitchen appliances, cupboards, air conditioning, and microwave. We added a pellet stove for visits in the early spring or late fall for wine tours, an aluminum boat for fishing, a canoe and kayak for sunsets on the lake. For further information, call or e-mail me. It is a lovely place to relax.

Enjoy the quiet - pets welcome. Guests and their pets return every year. One of the few places with no stairs to the lake. Everyone enjoys swimming in the lake, laying on the dock, visiting the wineries (we have three within 7 miles) and local restaurants. Others have ventured to Ithaca, Rochester, and Canandaigua to visit museums, gourmet restaurants, and historic sites. The bedroom is above the lake so when you wake up in the morning, you feel like you are on a boat, overlooking the lake. The kitchen and dining area are on the bottom floor and look right out onto the water. There are many places to walk including a two mile hike up to Sampson State Park.

If you need to get away from the stress of your life, this is the place.

Enjoy the Lake: This is NOT for you IF you want a high energy vacation. See the herons land on the dock each evening and the ducklings come by each morning. The waves will rock you to sleep. Swim and kayak during the day. Take out the rowboat to fish. Have beach fires at night and visit our many wonderful wineries and restaurants nearby. No cable TV (just movies). No internet but if you want, you can smart phone your way into the busy life of your workplace. We suggest you don't. Just relax and get away. This is truly the country and as our friend Simon always says, 'They aren't building any more lakes.'

  • You can drive down on the beach to unload. Then drive around the side to park (off street). Very close and works well for older adults who have trouble walking distances. We have a two person aluminum canoe, an aluminum fishing boat and a one person kayak which works well on the lake. Paddle together in the canoe or take the kayak and hook an inner tube to the back and take your spouse for a ride. We do have full cell phone service and provide a CD player, radio, DVD player and TV along with lots of movies available for nightly showings. We do not have cable TV or internet service. We believe a low tech vacation helps our guests relax, forget about work, enjoy the lake, watch the campfire, talk, and/or read. Nightly sunsets is one of the best ways to relax and enjoy nature....moreless

Year Purchased: 1960

About: My family purchased the property in the 1960s and over the years we added rooms and renovated what was a little boathouse into a full functioning cottage right on the lake. No one is allowed to build this close to the lake anymore but we were grandfathered since the building was here before that ruling. Each year I add something new. In 2015, it was a 100 foot permanent dock, new doors and new windows. In 2015, I retired from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia where I had been a professor since 1984. Some people retire to the south. I retired back home to the north. I have two adult children who help me with the cottage (Until they graduate from college). I have been renovating and renting this cottage for 9 years. It has been great meeting nice people (and their pets) and having them return year after year.

Why Romulus:
The difference between this cottage and the others on the lake is the location. It is very private with over 280 feet of lake shore just for you. There are no stairs going down to the lake like other cottages. You walk out the door, two steps off the deck and you are 6 feet from the water. You park your car down on the beach. It is private, quiet, and you can relax. No landline phones, no internet, no cable. Lots of DVDs, CDs, books, swimming, sun and boating. Want to leave work behind? This is the place.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
My parents always had a house on Seneca lake for summers. After 40 years, I finally live on the lake year round. The cottage property is so beautiful. I love the fires at night, the sunsets and swimming off the dock. Every night is a different sunset.
