Situated on a wooded hillside you have spectacular views, peace and tranquility, always a fresh breeze, the fragrances of Rosemary, Thyme, and Juniper around you, and an overall feeling that is so soothing to your soul; our guests always want to stay-on longer.
The Perfect spot for a family with kids, a couple wanting a romantic and secluded place, or an artist needing quiet in an inspirational setting.
The position of the property is perfect because it is not far from the comforts of civilization, yet you are alone on your wooded hillside without the noise of farm equipment, traffic, or neighbors. Visit at a short distance: Gubbio, Assisi, Cortona, San Sepolcro, Citta di Castello and other villages and cities. Follow the Wine Route through Umbria and taste the incomparable Sagrantino di Montefalco and other great wines. This is also a great Olive Oil region and you can visit local groves. You can also buy direct Umbrian fabrics in Umbertide or the famous ceramics of Deruta.

We have always wanted to travel to Italy...of course to see the sights that are world-renowned but also to have a family holiday where we could relax. We realized this dream with a 4 week stay in Italy this summer but the definite highlight of the trip was staying at this beautiful villa near Montone. It is just off the path of tourists that seem to gorge the country in the summer but also close enough in proximity to drive to many of the major destinations. Montone is a quintessential medieval village with excellent food and the friendliest people! The villas themselves were stunning and being able to be at this property truly encapsulated everything that we had idealized/visualized/glamorized about what an "Italian experience" should be. We truly cannot recommend this property enough...it is perfect for families but also for adults or couples. The owners were exceptionally gracious and helpful in responding to all of our questions and concerns and they were definitely an asset in terms of our travel planning. This property is up quite a steep hill so not for faint-of-heart drivers but it is easy to get to and easy to get to other destinations from so it is worth it! The pool is magnificent and provided much respite from the heat of the summer in Italy. There are truly not enough adequate words to describe how wonderful this experience was for our entire group...we have and will continue to recommend this property to friends and will also plan to return ourselves in the future!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, pet owners, families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you for the complements and your gracious recommendation Zoe! It is true that the road up is a bit steep and narrow - we are used to it, but I can see why you point it out; good point. We hope to meet up with you again one day and it was nice meeting you. Best regards,

This is the most idyllic spot. We spent 2 beautiful weeks here and could not recommend it more highly! Wonderful and hospitable hosts and so much to do - eat, drink, visit the hill towns, and chill by the pool or on the terrace. We even made bread and pizza in the outdoor pizza oven!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you Jane and James for offering to share your bread making expertise; we really enjoyed the the process with you as well as eating the outcome!

We are a family with 4 children from 2-12 yrs and were looking for a place with peace, privacy and a safe pool. We were extremely lucky to find Campo della Fiora. The view is incredible, the pool perfect and we managed to fit ourselves in il Fienile while the kids favour to sleep in the same room. This old farmhouse is renovated with good taste and excellent functionality, and the garden around is beautiful and well kept. This was really a luxury holiday for us. There are several places of interest to visit around within one hour drive or less. Montone itself is a picturesque village within 10 minutes drive. We also appreciate the support and hints from the owner and the property manager. We can recommend this place to anyone looking for a peaceful place. Timo, Niina & ChildrenRecommended for: Adventure seekers.
Owner response: Beautiful words of praise from our first Finnish guests. We hope you are able to return one day. Thank you very much for your kind words. Sincerely,

This beautiful cottage has been tastefully renovated while keeping the charm of its significant history. The rooms are comfortable and well maintained while the views and ambiance cannot be bought. The farm house sit atop a secluded hillside which is only minutes from the Montone township by car. The property offers the ultimate in privacy with the convenience of a short drive to shops and facilities. We hope to return soon.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: Dave and Jo are from a paradise themselves; we have been to Tasmania twice and would love to return, so when people from such a beautiful place make such favorable comments then it adds extra value for us as owners. We are glad that you have enjoyed our Little Known Paradise as much as we do. Thank you so much.

Found Porcilaia to be perfect for us! We had one of our greatest holiday ..... even decided not to travel to Rome as we had originally planned! Views are at the location are outstanding ..... the whole 360 deg. The location is ideal for peace and quiet, with short day trips to nearby villages and to Perugia and Assisi. Matteo was very kind and helpful. We highly recommend and we certainly plan on going back.Owner response: Thomas ans Emma are very lucky people as they had spectacular weather of a whole week in March; then the following week when we were there we had more typical March weather but it was still very enjoyable. Thank you for your comments and we hope to see you again in Montone.

We had a wonderful stay in Fienele in summer 2011. Everything exceeded our expectations: the setting, the grounds & the quietness of this place are fabulous. We've taken lots of photos of the views but no photo can do this place justice. The house is well equipped and the pool is one of the nicest we've seen. Jonathan & Roberta and family are delightful hosts with a brilliant outdoor oven for those wonderful authentic pizzas. There are so many great places to visit nearby so its hard to choose between days enjoying this place or driving to one of the very many lovely Umbrian towns and villages, there are many great places to visit. We have great memories of sitting out with BBQ, wine & beer on the terrace enjoying the superb view to Montone, we highly recommend this place!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, tourists without a car, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you Paul for your kind words and we are so happy that you and your family enjoyed our secret getaway hideout. Paul found out about our place from former guests who stayed two years ago, so we are very grateful to them for the recommendation; the best way to find the best guests...

This was our third stay at Pianelle - we had summers here in 2008 and 2009 but missed last year to our regret! Two weeks passes rather quickly and we were sadder than ever to have to go home this year; the peace and tranquility have to be experienced to be believed ! This year we chilled out more than ever and stayed 'home' sampling the fantastic local home made pastas, acceptable wines and the star filled skies overlooking Montone on the next hill. The town still offers excellent, and excellent value eating from the simple to the exquisite, and the people are friendly and helpful. Add a very helpful but discreet property manager and gardener, a superbly kept pool and solitude without isolation to make a holiday property it would be very hard to equal let alone better. Our only regret is that this year we missed meeting Roberta and Jonathan by a few days; maybe next year!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, age 55+, sightseeing.
Owner response: We are so sorry to have missed Neil & Mandy this year, but are very pleased to hear that we are keeping up with their expectations. I wonder if they have any comments on the local restaurants as they are fair judges in our view and we like to hear what places they liked best. We certainly hope to see you next year.

All we can say is Wow! What an idyllic getaway in an amazing location. Looking across the valley to Montone was spectacular and only a 5 minute drive for supplies. Great variety of restaurants in the local town. The 1 bedroom villa was in superb condition, 100% clean and tidy with good (although small) shower with great water pressure. The swimming pool was a must have and added real value to the property. Meeting Jonathan and Roberta was an added bonus, as they are wonderful hosts ensuring we had everything we needed, it added to the whole experience. Would highly recommend this property if you're after a quiet location but only a short drive to the must see areas of Umbria. This is the place to stay.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: Joanne and Carl are very experienced world travelers and have seen it all, so we are so happy to hear their positive comments. Thank you guys and we hope to see you again one day (maybe in NZ?).

A wonderful holiday and lovely hosts. We were very lucky to overlap with the owners being in residence in the near by farmhouse and spent a very enjoyable evening with them at Montone's festival and at a pizza making evening using the outside wood fired oven. They couldn''t have been more helpful with advice and suggestions of where to visit or eat or making sure we had everything we needed. This is a superb location, well placed to visit the sites and cities but also hidden away in a beautiful quiet valley. Montone is a beautiful hill top village and the elegant city of Perugia is only 20 mins away. The view while sitting outside the house for meals or relaxing was the best we have ever experienced in many years of visiting Italy and renting villas.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: David is an expert traveller of Italy and his knowledge of the history and culture humbles many Italian scholars, and his meticulous research resulted in him choosing our place to spend his precious time off. Therefore, his comments about the quality of the view/location and the peacefulness he feels while taking it in carries a lot of weight and are not dolled out casually. We appreciate his feedback and are very proud that he feels the way we do about this place.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1993
About the owner: My wife is from Rome, I am from Connecticut, and we met in Honduras! For the past twenty years we have worked as expatriates, but this is our base and where we want to spend our free time.
Why the Owner Chose Umbertide:
My wife would escape the heat and chaos of Rome each summer and stay in this area, so as soon as we had enough saved up we bought this old farm house; a real fix-er-upper, and now look at it!
We did not buy it as a vacation rental property, but there is so much extra room that we decided to share it (and help offset some of our expenses).
The Unique Benefits at this Farmhouse:
We are so close to being far away. With the amazing local food, great views, and peaceful surroundings we just feel so good the moment we arrive. One local Cappuccin monk commented, 'This place is so Franciscan!' We agree, there is something so soothing about this place; no exaggeration.
