Arriving at this picture perfect home, the first thing that struck us was the detailing of the beautiful Island-inspired architecture. Pulling into the driveway we quickly noticed the stately landscaping and welcoming front entrance. However, because we parked in the garage to unload our luggage, we first entered through the kitchen. This was the perfect way for us to enter this home! Walking into the kitchen, you immediately know that you are not in a typical home. The gourmet kitchen is long with beautiful granite counters, tons of cabinetry, a huge pantry, and plenty of windows to look out at nature. However, our eyes were naturally drawn to the end of the kitchen to a lovely wooden bar with a pool and ocean view. What a greeting! The bar area flows into the high ceiling of the living/dining room. The gorgeous bar/living/dining room is both beautifully decorated with a touch of the tropics and functional. However, the best part are the walls of sliding glass doors that let you blend the interior of the home with the pool and the great ocean view. There are plenty of places around the pool to comfortably lounge in the shade, have a candlelit dinner, or just get some sun. We spent almost every evening sitting near the pool enjoying a glass of wine. Even though we did not get a sunset while we were there, we were able to enjoy a spectacular lightening show and the fun of watching the warm Hawaiian rain from under the lanai roof. Perfect! This home is ideal for two couples, though it would certainly house more. The large bedrooms are at either end of the home so you can completely separate for privacy. Each has its own very nice bathroom (one with a huge walk in shower and the other with a tub/shower combo), private lanai with seating, television, and large closets. While it appears that other homes are close by you are hardly aware of them. You truly feel as if you are the only person in this garden paradise. There were plenty of towels and linens for our use and staples in the kitchen. Otherwise, we went shopping at Costco, Target, grocery stores, and the farmer's market for our weekly groceries. Nothing is that far away. We had so much fun preparing our meals at home and dining al fresco, I don't think we even went out for dinner. Well situated between Kailua-Kona and Captain Cook, this is an immaculately cared for vacation home you will want to return to over and over again.

Bamboo House

This was our 5th visit to the Bamboo house. It is a very nice property, lots of space, panoramic view of the ocean. Quiet environment and great for morning walks. Close to the best snorkel beach and downtown Kialua-Kona. Would suggest new BBQ. When we had problems, the owner was very responsive. Would recommend to friends and family.

This was beyond our expectations, even though the information and pics on the website were very accurate. We had such a lovely time! The Bamboo House has the greatest layout. One master bedroom is on the one end of the house while the other master bedroom is on the other end. Gotta love that! And the lanai! Just slide the glass doors to have an open floor plan and see the wonderful view! We spent all of our time there. Reading, relaxing, sunbathing, grilling, being served by our husbands with drinks....too good to be true! The Bamboo house is so clean and every thing you need is there, all you need is some fresh goods from the farmer's market and some groceries (Costco has fabulous pawns on Fridays) and your good to go! Gerry and Mary Lou are just the greatest owner's. They always answered any questions we had and made you feel like YOU own the home. We've stayed there twice and hope to stay there again each time we visit the beautiful Big Island. Thank you again for most amazing time at the Bamboo House.

We stayed at the Bamboo House while on our honeymoon in Hawaii. The house is beautiful and has everything you could possibly need. We were so glad after being there that we decided not to stay at a hotel or resort. The privacy, location, view and the pool made it the perfect place to be. Thank you Gerry and Mary Lou for making our first visit to Hawaii such an excellent trip.

We stayed at The Bamboo House during the Christmas to New Year's holiday week and had a terrific time. The house is well appointed with a nice kitchen. The view to the ocean is great, with nice views of the sunset. The location is in a very quiet gated community, it was very peaceful and relaxing.

This was deffinateley the highlight of our vacation!! Thank-you for making us feel so welcome and at home in your very beautiful home!! This was our tropical get a way from the crowds and tourist. The pool was relaxing and our evening bbq was great! I drew pictures of the floor plan and hope someday to design a home like this one. We also want to say mahalo for the sailing trip, the sunset was beautiful even though our men never got their "sea feet" (hee hee). When we return to Kona we hope to come home to Bamboo House! We had a great stay and loved the "turtle house". Just found this listing again on VRBO so think it's good to leave a review for others even though this is many years delayed. Shopping was close. We enjoyed the pool, the sunsets are amazing from the back lanai. Home was really nicely appointed, the 2 masters are really nice, with the wonderful shower in the bigger master at the back of the house. We had a great time and will always cherish these memories. thanks again, Lisa, John, Ken, Heather, Jonathan and Meredith.
