This is a very private retreat - up in the hills. It's very nice and quiet. Deer came every morning. The separate sauna is very nice. It was clean with a lot of nice touches - hair dryers, kitchen supplies etc. The photo is accurate but it was a bit closer to the main house than it seemed in the photo. I did not meet the owner who was away during my stay - so very private indeed. It is close to town, but there is one drawback that she did mention - it is very steep to walk to town. My legs did bother me a bit. And the parking is again, steep. Your luggage can fall out of the trunk - it's that steep. But, I would stay there again for the privacy and lovliness of the views and to be out of the touristy part of Ashland. The Shakespeare Festival is first rate - world class productions. I saw four plays. Also, dining is great. And the park is lovely and great to stroll leisurly in. I also loved the nearby historical town of Jacksonville. Wonderful. And the Backyard Barbeque there is a great restaurant. All in all - a great stay in a charming setting. I would recommend it highly - but note that there isn't a television. I read an 800-page novel during my stay. And I think that's a good thing for a retreat - get away from all the distractions for awhile.

My husband, toddler, and I stayed in late July. The layout accommodates families, as a couple can sleep/read in the loft with a child or baby can sleep in the crib. The place is stocked with basic and fun items, like cutlery and a wine rack (byob). The yard is also quaint with a great view. The only catch is that the house is on a steep hill. We are in good shape, it didn't not bother us. However, it could be problematic for some. The location is very close to theaters and downtown. We'd stay here again.

The cottage was cute, comfortable and perfectly close (but not too close) to the theaters and downtown. The view was spectacular. The walk up the hill from town to the cottage is not for the faint of heart but it is worth it. Delightful accents like the hammock and sauna, plus plenty of room in the cottage made it a perfect little spot. We would highly recommend AND stay there again.

My family and I just stayed at this charming cottege this past weekend. It is located very close to town but above the theatres. What isn't in the description is that the views from the cottege are so beautiful especially during the night with all the lights down below. I expect that the sight of the full moon rising about the valley would be awesome. It is very private and I found the hosts very accomodating. We would love to stay there again.

We adored this place! Our host was gracious. It was so lovely to have a panoramic view from a window right behind where we laid our heads. The cabin was appointed lovingly and tastefully, finished with beautiful wood trim. The sauna worked quickly and well. We saw two rainbows over the mountains. Only glitch was the Wi-Fi didn't work, but the owner made arrangements for us. I would love to return here!
