This remodeled log home is charming and comfortable. Originally built by a forest ranger, it is situated on a hilltop overlooking Stockade Lake and the entrance to Custer State Park. The cabin's 3-acre site is bordered by Forest Service land on the west side. There's ample parking for two vehicles and it is convenient to the highway but private and quiet.
The log living room is large (14x24) with two comfortable sofas for lounging. The log walls are warm and fireplace is uniquely constructed of native rock. The fireplace will be updated to a gas log unit by the summer of '09. Put your feet up and watch your favorite program on the 35-inch, big-screen TV, or step out of the living room onto a rock patio, smell the pine air, relax and enjoy the view of Stockade Lake.
There's an oversized picture window in the living room, which also overlooks the Lake. The surface of the Lake is smooth and reflective in the morning and glistening in the afternoon. Only a small part of the lake can be viewed from the cabin, the rest of the lake opens up beyond the beautiful rock formations. Drive or walk around the Lake where you'll see heron nests, friendly ducks, boaters, shaded picnic tables and a sandy swim area. The entrance to Custer State Park is adjacent to the Lake. The Park offers miles of paved highway leading to other lakes, beautiful rock formations, wildlife and wilderness. This is a great place to begin your tour of the Black Hills.
Start your day with coffee in the quaint knotty-pine breakfast room. Wireless internet keeps you connected. There's a TV located next to the dining room table just right for kids who like to watch cartoons while having breakfast. The two windows next to the dining table look out over the tree-studded hilltop. Often, in the early morning and late evening, wild turkey and deer feed around the trees, just outside these windows.
The kitchen has a large garden window over the kitchen sink. You'll find the kitchen is complete with full-size stove and refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, and slow cooker. Also furnished are dishes, utensils, pots, pans and other cooking tools as well as coffee, sugar, salt and pepper. We stock the fridge with bottled water for your arrival, and, there's a gas grill just outside the kitchen door.
Four guests can sleep comfortably in the cabin. The bedroom is spacious (15x15) with a queen bed, dresser and platform rocking chair. The living room has a comfortable sleeper sofa just right for falling asleep while watching the big screen TV. We can provide a roll away or twin bed for one additional guest.
There's a washer and dryer, and the bath has a tub with shower. We provide a minimum of 10 towels and washcloths. Very comfortable.
