This remodeled log home is charming and comfortable. Built originally by a forest ranger, it is situated on a hilltop overlooking Stockade Lake and the entrance to Custer State Park. The cabin's 3-acre site is bordered by Forest Service land on the West side. There's ample parking for two vehicles and it is convenient to the highway but private and quiet.
The log living room is large (14x24) with two comfortable sofas for lounging. There's an oversized picture window with tranquil views of Stockade Lake. The surface of the Lake is smooth and reflective in the morning and glistening in the afternoon. The fireplace is uniquely constructed of native rock and the original log walls are unique with buffalo hair chinking. Put your feet up and watch your favorite program on the big-screen TV or step out of the living room onto a rock patio, smell the pine air and relax. Only a small part of the lake can be viewed from the cabin; drive or walk around the lake, you'll see sand crane nests, friendly ducks, boaters, shaded picnic tables and a sandy swim area. The Custer State Park entrance is adjacent to the Lake. There are miles of paved highway through the Park leading to other lakes, beautiful rock formations, wildlife and wilderness. This is a great place to begin your tour of the Hills.
Start your day with breakfast in the quaint knotty-pine breakfast room. The two windows next to the dining table look out over the hilltop. Often, in the early morning and late evening, wild turkey and deer feed around the trees just outside these windows. There's also a TV located next to the dining room table just right for kids who like to watch cartoons while having breakfast.
There's a large garden window over the kitchen sink and the kitchen is complete with full-size stove and refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and toaster. Also furnished are dishes, utencils, pots, pans and other cooking tools as well as coffee, sugar, salt, pepper, flour and such. We stock the fridge with bottled water for your arrival, and, there's a gas bar-b-q just outside the kitchen door.
Four guests can sleep comfortably in the cabin. The bedroom is spacious (15x15) with a queen bed, dresser and platform rocking chair. The living room has a comfortable sleeper sofa just right for falling asleep while watching the big screen TV. We can provide a roll away or twin bed for one additional guest. The bathroom has a tub with shower. Very comfortable.
