Before I arrived at Heritage Place, I was expecting to find a spacious home, much bigger than the bear den I’m used to. My expectations were correct, but what I didn’t realize from the pictures was just how bright and open the home is. The kitchen area is surrounded by glass doors that can be left open to let in the sunshine. My fur keeps me pretty warm, so I really enjoyed the afternoon Pacific breezes. The deck on the third floor, which is just outside one of the master bedrooms, is bordered by three glass doors as well, allowing you to really bring the outside in.
You can enjoy the outdoors from inside the home, or you can simply enjoy the outdoors! The grounds and gardens of Heritage Place are remarkably colorful and meticulously manicured. Relaxing on the deck and admiring the property was my favorite thing to do – it was even better than a pot of honey! I also enjoyed dipping my paws in the hot tub on the patio at around 5:00 when it would just start to cool down in the evening.
Heritage Place may be a historic landmark, but it is certainly equipped with modern-day luxuries. The large gourmet kitchen with Viking appliances is perfect for a whole family of bears! The elegant stained concrete floors on the first floor even have built-in heaters to keep your paws warm if you’re visiting in the cooler months. The furnishings are not only appropriate for this historic home but also provide for the utmost in comfort. Between the pillowtop mattresses and the fresh breezes, even sleeping was a treat! I might even come back in the winter to hibernate. Each of the two master suites (which have extra beds for the kiddos) have connecting bathrooms. You can come in from a sunny La Jolla day and relax in one of the tubs or clean off under the dual shower heads.
The openness and airiness of Heritage Place can only be matched by its convenience to area shops, restaurants, and activities. The home is only 2.5 blocks to Windansea Beach, a somewhat secluded area where I was able to watch the waves break on the rocks. Other beaches are a quick drive or bike ride away (if your legs are long enough), including Children’s Pool, where I watched the seals bobbing up and down in the water. Even popular San Diego attractions like Old Town or the San Diego Zoo were just a quick 15 to 20 minute drive. (I bet you couldn’t guess that the polar bears and pandas were my favorites!) After I had all I could “bear” of the afternoon heat, it was always a treat to return to Heritage Place, which was truly the epitome of luxury and relaxation.

This rambling, historic home has it all!

This rambling, historic home has it all! My family filled this beautiful, rambling home to capacity (13) last winter for an extended family reunion combined with an 80th birthday party for my mom. We couldn't have had a better space for it! This home has undergone a beautiful remodel that still allows for the historic character of the house to remain. Remarkably, the bedrooms all felt private, in spite of the large expanses of communal space in the middle of the home. The home has several levels, providing lots of spaces for impromptu meetings or for taking a moment for quiet and privacy. There were several cooks among us, and all were very pleased to find everything we could want in the kitchen. For any given meal, we had 4-5 people involved preparing and cooking, and there was more than enough room for everyone. The walk to the beach was easy, and it was a pleasant stroll past lovely homes on quiet streets. The beach itself was also perfect. From the 6 year old to the 82 year old, even in December, all agreed that there just wasn't enough time by the water. To top it off, when I needed to reach out to the management company about some items that were left behind by a family member, they were friendly and responsive, and their cleaning staff had already brought them the items for safe-keeping. Overall, we had a magical three days at Heritage Place, and my family agrees we will try to return to the same property again for a future reunion.

This was such an amazing property. I needed a place to get away too and this property was recommended to me. The interior and layout of the house was extremely unique. The house had great amounts of space, modern kitchen, and bedrooms were super quaint. The house is walking distance to some absolutely beautiful beaches in La Jolla that can be very quiet and private.

This house is very spacious. It is perfect for a larger group of people. There are a few different levels and a lot of space to hang out. The kitchen is big and open. The place is well kept and very clean. The beach is a close walk and it is easy to take the bus, ride a bike or take a cab into Pacific Beach or downtown La Jolla. We had everything we need for a comfortable stay. Southern California Vacation Rentals was very friendly and easy to work with. We would stay there again, hopefully soon!

Our family stayed at all 3 houses on this historic property for my mother's birthday/family reunion. We were coming from all over the country with children of varying ages and personalities. This setting allowed us the best possible vacation. We had plenty of room to spread out, but the kitchen/living room area in the heritage house allowed us all to gather for meals comfortably accommodating a large group. We could walk to the beach easily. Some could stay up late, others nap or go to bed early, and there was room for it all. We could not have been more pleased and would happily stay there again.
