The kitchen is equiped with a refrigerator, electric stove, microwave and is complete with cookware, cutlery, dishes, toaster, blender, electric can opener and coffee maker. Our home is the perfect getaway from the busy city.... in a relaxing lake area atmosphere.
We are located just off Paw Paw Lake in Coloma Township, between St Joseph and South Haven. This area is very quiet, especially after Labor Day, and is perfect for a couple (or small family) that wants a nice quiet, relaxing 'get away' from the every day stresses of life. The Master Bedroom/Master Bathroom w/Jacuzzi is perfect for a couple... Our home is a great place to spend a week, or a few quiet days, relaxing and enjoying your honeymoon.... The Great Room is very cozy and conducive to romance with the beautiful stone fireplace, cathedral ceiling, beautiful hardwood flooring and comfy furnishings.
The Coloma/Watervliet area is in the heart of Michigan's fruit rich region along the shores of Lake Michigan. In the spring, stroll along the shoreline and see the flowers in bloom, stopping to browse at unique shops along the way. In mid to late summer, and early fall... visit the many area orchards that offer a variety of fruits and vegetables. Pick your own peaches, apples and pumpkins and take a hayride through an orchard at Harvest Festival time. Winter time offers snow skiing, ice skating, cross country skiing and other cold weather activities... Or, just cozy up to the Great Room fireplace and relax.
Nearby Coloma and Watervliet offer local dining, movie theaters, antique shops and small town charm. Unleash your adventurous spirit and take a short drive on scenic Lake Michigan Circle Tour Highway, M-63, hugging the Lake Michigan shoreline, north to South Haven and south to St. Joseph. There you will find good food, live music/theater, unique shops, museums and art galleries. Each town has individual charm with it's own lighthouse, boat filled harbor and unique attractions -- an experience you will not soon forget!

David, Thank you for being so helpful when our car needed a new battery. Your house was a great place for our family and we really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of the lake community. Your kindness will not be forgotten. PS. Enjoyed the Blue Heron every morning and evening on the pond! Also, interesting black squirrels... don't have them in Wisconsin!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I stayed here for a long weekend with my husband, and our 18 month old daughter. Some friends of ours joined us with their 1 year old son. We had a great time! The house was the perfect size for us and we loved the large living room and having a choice of two decks. Since the one deck is off of the master bedroom, which our daughter was sharing with us, we didn't want to use that deck at night for fear of waking her. It was great to have another option with the front deck and we had a blast sitting out there all evening with our wine glasses and baby monitors! The men loved having the choice of cooking on the gas grill or the charcoal each night, and there was plenty of kitchen supplies and dishes provided. The furniture and kitchen are a bit dated, but really, who needs updated stuff in a lake house...it would take away from the atmosphere! The bathrooms are updated and really nice. The backyard is enormous! Since we don't have a boat, we decided to go to a small beach on Lake Michigan within 10 minutes which was perfect for us. It is also pretty close to the larger beaches as well. We had a great time and definitely would consider going back! Thanks Mr Cerney!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children.

Great Getaway Close To Chicago

My boyfriend and I decided to get away from Chicago for a weekend in mid-February. We are in our mid-30s. We wanted a place that had a good chance to get snowed on, with a cozy fireplace. This home definitely delivered as we were lucky enough to get lake-effect snow for the weekend and the Great Room with its fireplace was more than we could ask for. It was a great location, only 2 hours away from the north side of Chicago. The owner, David, made sure everything was perfect for us and the house was spotless. He recommended places nearby to eat and they didn't disappoint. Being fans of good beer, we decided to take a short 40 minute drive to Kalamazoo to visit Bell's Brewery, brought some of their goods back to the house and enjoyed a quiet night with good pizza, great beer, and a relaxing fire. This house is quiet enough to relax, but not too far removed from interesting activities to make for a fun stay. Not many complaints here - don't expect to cook a thanksgiving dinner in the kitchen, it's kind of small; and the water has a sulfur-like smell to it, as I guess most rural houses do, but that's about it. We would definitely come back. Thanks for letting us into your home, David!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks Jen for your kind comments! Glad you guys had a great time and enjoyed the house and the area! Water from rural wells generally does not taste the same as city water (aka Chicago's Lake Michigan water)and may have some odor issues initially. The smell you observed occurs when the water sits in the water heater when the house is not occupied for a week or so. It will aquire a slight sulphur smell which goes away after the hot water is used for a while. Not only is the water safe to use... It's quite normal for this area. And yes, the kitchen is a bit small... but yet quite functional and has everything you'd need for up to 8 guests. Thanks again for taking the time to write a review! I sincerely appreciate the feedback! David

Will Never Rent This Home Again
Will Never Rent This Home Again

My family rented this home during the week of July 4th. First appearance the home was cute, but when we opened the door it smelled stale, the bedding and towels were musty and there were a TON of knick knacks and trinkets EVERYWHERE. After all was said and done, the owner alledged that we stole items (I wouldn't want anything in the house), broke things and left the house a mess for his cleaning lady - uh, isn't that why we paid a cleaning fee? We did not receive any of our security depsoit back, the owner was holding it ransom for some tiny bicycle trinket. Needless to say, my family, whom rents a vacation home in Coloma every year, will NOT be renting this home again.Owner response: In the four summers this home has been available for rent... the overwhelming response by our guests has been nothing but positive. We have also been blessed with guests that have treated our home as if it was their own. As you should be able to see from the photos on our ad, our home is immaculate and is maintained with loving care. It is after all... our home, and we take great pride in providing our guests with a positive and memorable experience. With that said, It's inevitable that one day your bound to have a bad guest experience... that one guest that refuses to accept responsibility for their irresponsible behavior and accept the consequences for their actions. The consequences in this case... being the forfeiture of their security deposit to cover losses...

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1988
About the owner: Born in Oak Park, IL... raised in LaGrange Park and Naperville. Moved to Naperville when there were less than 10000 residents... Have family in Michigan City, IN going back to the late 1800s. Our family has been coming to SW Michigan since the early 1900's. I spent most of my (summer) childhood years on the beach in Stevensville, where my grand parents had a home on the Lake. That's when I fell in love with the area and I've been coming back ever since.
Why the Owner Chose Coloma:
Familiarity, proximity to Paw Paw lake and Lake Michigan... and the love of the area! Spring, Summer and Fall is the best in Michigan...:) Winter is great, if... you like the snow :)
Paw Paw Lake is great for water skiing and spending a leisurely day on the water. Lake Michigan is close... with several beach access parks nearby. The harbors, shops, restaurants and beaches of St. Joe, South Haven and Saugatuck can't be beat and have some of the best fresh water beaches in the country. Check out my favorite restaurants... Schu's, The 'Pump House Grill' and 'Clementine's Too' in St Joe, and 'Clementine's' in South Haven. 'The Friendly' in downtown Coloma is great as well!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Antique shopping... sampling the various restaurants... boating the lakes... vinyards and orchards... scenic traffic free country roads. Charming St. Joseph and South Haven, both 15 minutes away. All less than than two hours from Chicago...
