  The house was well maintained, and was clean and in good shape. Plenty of space, with direct access to the beach. Great common space for big groups (dated furniture and appliances but fully functioning) and plenty of bathrooms and privacy for guests. Could have used more towels and some new porch furniture... It would have gotten 4 stars for the space because of the price though. Deposit was returned promptly as well Unfortunately, the management company did not let us know that the houses on both sides of the property were being used for a wedding and we had a constant flow of people crossing the front and back lawns, a request to not go on the beach for a few hours in the afternoon due to a ceremony, and a ceremony in the evening with traditional dancers and music that went on late into the night. We would have selected an alternative weekend if we had known that we would not have privacy and lots of noise. We informed them and they said that they didn't know about it, and also that it was not the house directly next to the rental - but as it was 10 feet from my bedroom, I know that they were incorrect. We even had a wedding planner knock and inform us about it. In addition, the man who maintains the property lives in a garage approx 10 feet from the property so again, very little privacy. 2 stars for lack of privacy and unwillingness to make things right (aka: They didn't offer us any discount or free nights in the future.)

  It's been over a year now, but we stayed in this home when we got married. We are a local couple and we both had some family fly into Oahu from outer islands & the mainland. We needed a nice place to put everyone, and we chose this house. It's right on my favorite beach, which was a huge bonus, but it was also very comfy and within our budget. The kitchen area was really well-stocked, the fact that there was ping-pong tables was fun. The caretaker (I don't think it's the same guy anymore) at that time seemed content to stop by & say hi pretty often, that was kind of weird but he was nice. All in all, this is a cool old-school house, on a gorgeous beach that fits plenty of people. It's not brand-new but it's comfortable and homey. Had several people ask me for the link as well, since they enjoyed it so much. I know of at least 2 other parties who have booked this property after us, and to me, that really goes to show you it's an awesome place. We got our deposit back after like 1 week so that was nice too.

  Ok, so at first I was a little hesitant to write a review. Why? It's because if any more great reviews come out on this property I may not be able to get in a reservation! All kidding aside, this place housed 13 people including kids! The spacious layout of the house was great to separate the families and the single people, but the big living room and dining room helped to keep everyone connected during family times. Outside was just as awesome. The backyard was big enough for the kids to tire themselves out while being enclosed enough to keep an eye on them. The beach was a little rough, but it was nice and secluded. Having a beer on the while watching the sunset was priceless. All in all my group had a blast. We liked it so much that there's been talk about doing this every year! So word to you all...do not reserve it for Memorial Weekend 2013, it's mine! LOL -Tyson

  We enjoyed staying here from the minute we drove up until the minute we left. The house is somewhat of an old style hawaiin home but with up to date amenities. The beach from the backyard was awesome. The little girls with us loved roaming the property and having trees to climb and a place to build a fort in the sand. The front yard is a beautiful place to have barbecues and sit and talk. The kitchen is big and the "gathering" room is fantastic. Close to everything in the North Shore and not a bad drive to the big cities. Overall we had an outstanding time and loved the place! Just an added note: The caretakers were awesome!

  Aloha Alison, John, Mia and Owner! Our management team of your community Kahuku Medical Center spent an awesome day at Mahakea - the total ambience was conducive to serious discussions as well as team building (like working on three separate meals together) and other fun activities, as well as the much needed solitary moments - it even rained but we did not notice and/or it did not deter from our sense of place at Mahakea. We will definitely be back. Mahalo for being "there" for us....in change of date, early site visit and availability! Mahalo, mahalo, mahalo.....Andrea

  The spacious beach house with large grassy back yard and right on a pristine and quiet beach was exactly what my family needed to relax for 5 days. I only wish I could have stayed longer! Kitchen was perfect for large family gatherings and cooking.

  Just stayed here with my sister & her kids who were visiting from Seattle - my only wish is that we could have stayed longer! The house is spacious - plenty of room for a family reunion, you would never feel crowded here. Large kitchen with plenty of cookware, can cook all your meals in (although the Shrimp Shack has really tasty shrimp just 10 minutes away). Very clean & well taken are of for an older beach house, which worked perfectly for us as we had kids ages 5-14 with us. The beach out front is relaxation heaven - beautiful soft sand, usually completely deserted, and while we were there, the waves were boogie-board-perfect for the kids every day. We brought our own DVD's to watch (large TV), the house is also well-stocked with older videos. We will most definitely be back!!

  Alison, The deposit check arrived in the mail before I had the chance to write a note of thanks to you. Our family really enjoyed this beach house; it was just what we needed and the only problem was that we could not stay there longer. It seemed as if we could find everything we needed; for example, when we searched around for roasting sticks to use at the firepit to roast marshmallows, well, we found those, too. It was completely comfortable, private, and spacious. And it was so wheelchair-friendly. Caretaker John Evans was always available on a moment's notice...loaning to us such things as...a requested power drill or a pickax to split open a coconut! He also was very knowledgable about area history and the plants on the property. He even devised a simple ramp out of the back door so that my wheelchair could easily access it. He was great and we let him know our thanks. I could go on, but suffice it to say that this was a charming beachhouse that was perfect for us. Thank you, Anita Pulham
