Finally, you have arrived at MORNING STAR RANCH, where you cannot help but feel relaxed & rejuvenated the minute you step through the front door. Now, where to start and what to do...
SUMMER: Of course you've come to see Yosemite Valley, but after a busy day in the valley come home & spend time swimming or napping by your own PRIVATE INDOOR POOL. Hot summers in the Sierras average mid to high 90's and more, so stay with us and be COOL!
SPRING/FALL/WINTER: Come see the beautiful spring flowers, changing fall foliage in & around Yosemite, winters' snow in Yosemite for skiing at Badger Pass (45 miles away), sledding at Goat Meadow Recreation Area (30 miles away), or sleigh rides & ice skating at Tenaya Lodge 10 miles away.
TWO BEDROOMS + TWO BATHROOMS: Morning Star Ranch is comfortably furnished for family fun or a romantic couples get-away. King size memory foam mattress in the ground floor bedroom & a Queen size pillow top mattress in the small, cozy upstairs bedroom. The upstairs game room also has a full-sized, pull-out sofa bed.
ENTERTAINMENT: Besides the 42' HD surround sound, flat screen TV in the living room, there are TV's in each bedroom & the game room. All the electronics you might miss while being away from home are provided: DVD player with surround sound & VCR player plus a computer with wireless WiFi internet access. There is a phone for all local calls.
KITCHEN: You will have access to every necessary appliance needed to prepare your meals & snacks in our galley kitchen. There is a large Weber propane BBQ & Weber charcoal grill located on the front deck off the living room. Enjoy your summertime meals al fresco on the comfy outdoor furniture on the living room deck overlooking the Sierra mountains. When you're not in the mood to cook, dine out at any number of excellent area restaurants. Choose American, Chinese, Japanese, Mexican, Italian, BBQ, or 5 star European-style dining (world famous Erna's Elderberry House Restaurant) & more, all located less than 5 minutes from home.
YARD: There is a horseshoe pit, badminton set & croquet set for you to use.
GAMEROOM=YEAR-ROUND FUN: Upstairs in the loft you will find a full-sized POOL TABLE/PING PONG TABLE. Listen to music while you enjoy a game of pool, ping pong, chess, darts or backgammon. Of course, you could just sit & relax and enjoy a DVD, CD, video, book, puzzle or board game & unwind from your days' adventures. Some of our previous guests have even canceled additional day-trips back to Yosemite just so they could spend their extra time enjoying all the fun-time activities available at our property!
GROUNDS: Take leisurely walks around our 2-acre property which is scattered about with large granite boulder outcroppings, listen to the babbling creek (seasonal winter/spring) or whispering cedar, pine & oak trees. Be on the alert for grazing deer, covey of quail or sprinting foxes. Spend sun-kissed days & star-lit nights in a quiet locale that is destined to become your home-away-from-home.
YOSEMITE~YOSEMITE~YOSEMITE!!! Begin your Yosemite adventure at the Mariposa Grove of giant redwoods located at the southern entrance to Yosemite, 20 minutes away on HWY 41. Or take the 60 mile drive up HWY 49 to the all-weather Scenic HWY 140 which winds along the beautiful Merced River (think summer white water rafting) & into the western Arch Rock entrance to Yosemite. On your way to Yosemite, visit the historic Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railway with its' old-fashioned narrow-gauge steam engines. Take a ride on 'The Logger', pan for gold, stay for lunch or dinner & enjoy their entertainment. Horseback riding stables are also close by (seasonal) and now there is even a local zip line to try (www.zipyosemite.com).
BASS LAKE!!! Bring your fishing pole or boat (or rent one at the local marina) & spend glorious spring & summer days on pristine Bass Lake 5 miles away--picnicking, swimming, fishing, boating & enjoying water sports--or venture out to any number of nearby lakes.
MORE FUN!!! Take a day-trip up Highway 49 to explore dozens of old gold rush-era towns. Visit the charming & historic town of Mariposa 40 minutes northwest: visit a working stamp mill with old mining equipment, historic museums, buildings, carriages & wagons. Chukchansi Gold Casino is only 10 minutes south of us in Coarsegold if you're feeling lucky or want to enjoy a concert.
SHOPPING/DINING (all less than 5 minutes from the house). Shop Raley's Supermarket in Oakhurst--the best stocked food store, deli & bakery in town. You will also find other nearby conveniences such as Vons Grocery Store, CVS & Rite-Aid Drug Stores, Jamba Juice, various fine-dining & fast food restaurants, pizza parlors, bowling alley, 4-screen movie theater, Starbucks, gas stations & more.
WHAT'S BEST: Remember, EVERY season of the year offers something new & exciting to see or do in and around Yosemite. Make your vacation dollars count--welcome home to Morning Star Ranch & enjoy your stay.

This is a great house. Beautifully equipped with everything you could possibly want. There's full entertainment: TV, Xbox, swimming pool, etc., comfy beds, full kitchen (there were three coffee makers), outdoor activities, something for everyone in the family. Its like staying in someone's home. You cannot go wrong staying here.

We spent 2 nights in this lovely home. It was our first time renting a house for our vacation, primarily because we have a dog that we like to bring along with us. The whole rental process was smooth and easy. The house was very comfortable and everything we needed was there. We were able to cook a couple lovely meals and ate out once at Erna's Elderberry House, a fabulous 5-star restaurant in Oakhurst. Oakhurst has everything we could need, from groceries to supplies. It was a little too cool to swim in the pool, but able to enjoy the quiet and warm house for the short time we were there. Yosemite was amazing with fresh snow and fortunately the roads were clear to travel into the park. Hopefully we'll be back someday!

Charming and Wonderful Vacation Home!
Charming and Wonderful Vacation Home!
The pictures do not do this wonderful home justice! It is very charming with many ornate details and everything you could ask for, including cowboy hats, a lasso, a badmitten court, an extensive collection of DVDs, a wonderful game room stocked with a variety of games, three decks with amazing views, three BBQs, saddles and a very cozy indoor pool! It was such a splendid getaway for the weekend and we wish we could have stayed longer. We will definitely be coming back here on our next trip to Yosemite. Thank you so much for such a pleasurable experience!

Family of 4 summer vacation.
Family of 4 summer vacation.
Great location. Quiet and very close to Bass Lake, Yosemite, Mariposa Grove, Sugar Pine RR... The lot was huge and we played horse shoes, badmitton, and hiked in the back yard. Nice quality pool table upstairs with good ques. The house is super equipped with everything you need and then some. The kitchen was so full we had to leave some of our groceries on the counter. Pool was beautiful and was great to cool down in. My only complaint...My life and I stayed in the upstairs bedroom because of the king bed and we didn't like the bed or the room. Everything else was so great that it didn't matter. My girls age 9 and 12 liked hiking in the back yard down to the creek valley better then Yosemite. That was their favorite part.

Gorgeous, well-appointed home
Gorgeous, well-appointed home
Far exceeded our expectations. This was a magnificent mountain home, with everything you could ever want or need plus more. Very clean, cozy and comfortable. Unfortunately, the swimming pool heater wasn't working so we couldn't swim, which was our main reason for choosing this place. However, the owner was working VERY hard to remedy the situation and kept in close touch. When it was determined that it was not going to get warm enough in time, they gracious offered us another night's stay free of charge. We were unable to take them up on the offer, but we did appreciate it. Other than that, it was, in every way, a delightful experience and a home I would love to return to again and again.

Owner response: Dear Sara, Thank you so much for your very kind words regarding our vacation home. We were so sorry the pool heater was not functioning during your stay. As you know, my husband spent a week prior to your arrival trying to get the heater going. Now that it is, we hope you are able to return again and again. I have sent you a "free-night" coupon in hopes you will come back to Morning Star Ranch for a swim! Maureen & Steve

Year Purchased: 2011
About the owner: After three successful years of running our Morning Star Ranch vacation rental in the nearby town of Ahwahnee, my husband & I decided to purchase a different vacation rental--this time in Oakhurst --and instead of an outdoor pool this home has a private indoor pool which is heated to a comfortable 76 degrees (in summer only).
Why the Owner Chose Oakhurst:
Our family loves to explore beautiful Yosemite Valley and its' surroundings, but we wanted to be away from the crowds after a busy day visiting there. It is an hours' drive to the floor of Yosemite Valley from our home--and a beautiful drive at that! You will find that amenities in Yosemite Valley are sparse, but the town of Oakhurst (which is less than 5 minutes from our home) has everything you could possibly want--from grocery & drug stores, restaurants, gas stations and much, much more.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
While this Oakhurst vacation home offers many of the same fun amenities that the previous rental had, we feel that this home offers our guests a very unique feature that no other rental property near Yosemite Valley can--a private indoor pool--only slightly heated to 76 degrees in summer because local outdoor temperatures can rise to well over 100 degrees! Swim & be COOL in the hot Sierra Summers!! Come here to Morning Star Ranch in Oakhurst to RELAX and UNWIND from your hectic lifestyle. Enjoy the stress-free surroundings on our 2-acre property: no traffic, no people, no noise--except the country kind--quiet!
