Mexican Sunrise House...Hola! Your hosts are the Gutman's who reside in Ajijic.
Wake up every morning to a Mexican sunrise in a Brand New Home. Why not rent your very own two-story Mexican designed home? The Mexican Sunrise House is located in the most desirable area of Ajijic-Las Salvias area. This exquisite home is in walking distance to everything and set into the hills with a lake and mountain-view. Did you know that Ajijic has some of the best year round climates in the world? No wonder it is called 'the land of eternal spring' and hosts 'the' largest number of U.S. and Canadian ex-pats in the world!
Are you considering retirement? This home will certainly give you the true flavor of our village. Ajijic is an excellent getaway to a mild climate and a chance to experience the authentic Mexican life. Enjoy a brilliant sunrise, church bells, fragrant flowers and be peaceful in the hills of this village. This BRAND NEW home is secured and located in a very safe area where you can walk the village streets- Ajijic is a 500 year old romantic cobblestone village.
Centrally located, the Mexican Sunrise House is a charming two story home with two bedrooms and a full bathroom on the upper level. The downstairs includes a large living room with French doors and large windows, open concept kitchen, breakfast bar, half-bathroom and covered terrassa for outdoor dining. There is secure parking if you choose to bring or rent a car during your stay in Ajijic. Our guests tell us it is a home away from home.
The spectacular terrace off the master bedroom has exceptional views of the lake and mountains. Don't be surprised if it calls you to sip your first cup of coffee in the morning while watching the sun rise over the village. The master bedroom has an American queen-size pillow top bed, custom built in closets and high 'cupola' ceiling. All linens and towels are quality fabrics, understanding the needs of spoiling our guests. All the rustic furniture is hand painted by a local artist. The master bathroom includes: Mexican tiled sink, shower with a built in tiled sitting bench, and stained glass windows.
The second bedroom has a high-riser(day bed) that sleeps two, feather beds for that European comfort, as well as an elegant hand painted rustic desk to set up your laptop computer. High speed internet access is already set up for you. A large window with views of the mountain creates a quiet charm and rustic beauty.
As you descend the staircase an artistic stained glass window allows light into the home and adds more Mexican charm. The downstairs area has lots of windows and French doors to create a bright and airy feeling. Mexican arches and nooks are set off by dramatic lighting and 'boveda' Mexican styled ceilings. Relax and watch your favorite TV programs or listen to your favorite music on the satellite TV with hundreds of stations: sports, CNN, BBC, movies, music, etc. (we have Canadian and U.S. programs)
The Mexican crafted kitchen has all the modern appliances and designed for easy living. You can prepare meals while still being part of the living area. The kitchen includes a large pantry, gas oven and stove top, microwave oven and triple filtered water.
Protected from the sun you can enjoy the downstairs terrace and enjoy dining out in the evening. A Mexican tiled fountain provides you with a quiet Zen moment and you will understand why you are in paradise as the tropical ceiling fans provide cool breezes.
For your convenience: US washer and dryer, storage room for golf clubs and sports equipment, secured off street parking.
We also like to remind you that we have another home, The Mexican Jewel House-VRBO #104029 that is close by for families and friends that want to enjoy their visits together, but maintain their privacy and comfort. Just ask for both homes if you are considering multi-family/friend visits to our village.
Maid and gardener services are included as are gas, electric and local phone calls. There are absolutely no hidden charges!
We've taken the pleasure to supply you with a list of our favorite restaurants, shops, village outdoor market days and full day outings to artistic and historical cities. We enjoy stocking the fridge with a few goodies to get you going the first day you arrive and you can certainly pop down the street for some fill-ins. This home is so well located that many visitors never use their cars. Just three streets away you will find a variety of small fruit and vegetable markets, 2 fish markets and a small grocery store. You can stock up on our local produce and enjoy the fresh foods.
Only 3 minutes from The Mexican Sunrise House, we have our very own baker (Pan). Walk down the cobblestones to the original rustic bakery and buy warm fresh rolls every morning, croissants, sweet rolls (pan dulce) and have an authentic experience with our local baker who speaks English! Once inside this amazing bakery-you can special order: bagels, baguettes, whole wheat croissants and cactus bread.
If you are here for affordable plastic surgery, dental work or medical treatments-this home is a perfect place to be peaceful. A complete dental cleaning is just $40, hour-long massages are $28 and you can choose from more 'spoiling' during your stay.
Remember – location, location, location! Just a short stroll away and you are at the main plaza with over 40 international restaurants, local artist galleries, shops and the true Mexico, at your feet. Walk the cobblestone streets, get caught in the local sights and sounds of the village, and enjoy what over 7,000 North Americans call home.

We spent a week here in early April, and found everything to be exactly what we wanted. The host is friendly, accommodating and helpful. The house is roomy, has purified water, satellite tv, a kitchen complete with cooking and eating utensils, and a beautiful view of the lake. The location is excellent. it is a few blocks from the plaza, where the locals gather in the evening and even closer to the bus stop, should you need to ride into Guadalajara, the street market or even Walmart. Also conveniently located within walking distance are art galleries, artisan shops, restaurants, fruit stands, bakeries and much more. If and when we return to Ajijic, we intend to stay here again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We loved our stay in this quaint Mexican neighborhood. The house was comfortable and welcoming. Leo and Gabby were most accomodating with a cocktail party on their veranda on the second night after our arrival. It was a short walk to town and loads of shops in the neighborhood for daily supplies. The house is well maintained with everyting we needed at our fingure tips. A full kitchen if we needed it but we ate out most of the time. When we got there, a nice bottle of red wine was waiting for us along with enough supplies for breakfast the next morning. We will recommend this lovely house to our friends for future visits to the most charming town in Mexico!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We have just spent a wonderful six weeks in the Mexican Sunrise House. It was everything we had hoped for and more. Leo, our host, his fiance Gabi, and Cali their dog made us feel very welcome. We arrived after midnight and as Leo was away, the maid Esther and husband Jose were at the house to greet us with a welcome package of wine and breakfast goodies. Leo was also gracious enough to invite us for drinks on the mirador which overlooks the lake and mountains. The house is delightful, much thought and effort has made it so with many lovely Mexican artifacts such as the tin mirrors, papier mache figurines and woven hangings, to name just a few. We loved the ceilings with the brick boveda in the living area and the cupola in the master bedroom. we did quite a bit of our own cooking, who wouldn't with the well equipped and attractive kitchen. The local produce, fruit and vegetables, is amazing and the fish from the tianguis was fresh and delicious. Frequently, we ate our meals on the terrace, but enjoyed our coffee on the verandah off the master bedroom where we experienced beautiful sunrises every morning. This is also a lovely place to sit in the evening with clear skies and lots of stars. There are many excellent restaurants within walking distance and we certainly indulged ourselves in this area. A car is not necessary here. Most places within the town are within walking distance and for trips further afield, such as Chapala and Jocotepec there is an excellent and cheap bus service. For more elaborate excursions, the Charter Club Tours in the village offer excellent bilingual tours. The Mexican Sunrise House is not in a gated community and we felt fortunate to be in a real mexican neighbourhood where everyone was welcoming and friendly. At no time did we feel unsafe and were not regarded as intruders. Family life is very important in Ajijic and we saw many children, dogs, horses and donkeys. We heard the cockerels and hens. There seemed to be a parade every Sunday and were happy to be in Ajijic for Mardi Gras, the best of the lot. The Mexicans know how to celebrate and have fun! This holiday was a great experience, the house lives up to its name, and the Chapala area in its boast of perpetual spring. We would certainly recommend this property to family and friends. Thank you Leo, we loved it and our designation is six stars not five!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

My husband and I like to stay in places where we can cook as well as enjoy the cuisine in the local restaurants. The Sunrise House was perfect for both. A well-appointed kitchen with an outside dining area, great restaurants, a baker, fresh fish store and produce store within walking distance. Every morning, I walked the two blocks to have a fresh, still warm roll. The house has a lovely interior design and attention to detail that is distinctly Mexican and is very clean and well secured. The owner is helpful with information that exceeds the travel books. Ajijic is a great place to take in, hike, sight see and relax.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway.

Another delightful déjà vu week in Ajijic at the Sunrise. As is the norm here the casita was spic and span on arrival and we had a marvelous time enjoying the digs and Ajijic. Total comfy bed in the master bed room. As the Sunrise house has a fully equipped kitchen we ate most of meals out on the patio enjoying the bountiful produce available in the Ajijic markets (especially the Wednesday farmer's market). A new discovery was the Monday market below the golf practice building near the Walmart on the way to Chapala.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: A returning guest is the best tribute to the Mexican Sunrise House

Hola! We have returned to our home in Tejas and are much the richer for having experienced your wonderful casa in Ajijic. Our week in the Mexican Sunrise casa was as close to perfect as one could expect. Upon arrival, the bottle of wine was quite welcome to our day of travel not to mention the breakfast goodies to get us going the next day. This was our second trip to Ajijic and was far superior to our first rental experience. This is the kind of house we would purchase if we decided to retire in Ajijic. Friends have asked us what we did all day. Well, we went to the Ajijic and Chapala open markets, ate wonderful food, felt the goodness of the local people, enjoyed tropical weather, viewed local artwork at the Art Festival, and saw God’s beauty in the flowers, countryside, farming, animals and Mexican architecture. Your communication prior to, during and after our stay is quite commendable. We loved you personally greeting us and making us feel that your home is our home. We highly recommend the Mexican Sunrise (truly, a testimony of its name) to our friends! Give our love to Cali!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Leo Guteman is a gem. He is gracious, informative, and helpful. This was my second stay in the Sunrise House. I find its location desirable for walking into central Ajijic and the many terrific restaurants around there. Tango is a "must try" place to go for a super meal! Laguna de Chapala is a fantastic local to visit and the place I decided I would retire to. I would whole-heartily recommend staying in the Sunrise House for wonderful vacation!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: I love repeat guests. There is no better review than a guest who decides to return.

We feel very much at home here. Itis clean, cheer ful and has upper and lower terraces which are most pleasant. Great internet, local phone, English TV, easy stairs to upper bedrooms, Lovely great kitchen, very nice appliances, even washer and dryer , maid . We went to Tonola Thurs. Market once and drove around the lake. We loved Walmart for shopping. We mainly just rested. It is pretty quiet for Mexico. Lovely home which would make any one happy ! OH ! and Leo's extras like kleenex, soaps, shampoos and a lovely bottle of wine as a welcome gift. His directions and manual are clear and easy . Just wonderful. Location is great , easy walk everywhere. Secure parking.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway.

My husband has always wanted to check out the Lake Chapala area so we went with our 12-year-old son and spent spring break in Ajijic. We fell in love with the Mexican Sunrise House from the first moment we saw it. We liked the fact that Leo provided everything that a traveler could ask for: some food so there's no need to go to the store right away (there was even a bottle of good wine), shampoo and conditioner, laundry detergent and fabric softener, condiments, etc. The location was very convenient for walking to restaurants, shops, markets, and the bus stop (we did not have a car). We would definitely recommend the house to friends and relatives and we will probably rent from Leo again if we go back to Ajijic.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.
