This was our sixth trip to Grand Cayman and the fourth time staying at The Retreat at Rum Point. This was the first time staying in this unit and we found it to be perfect! The location is right on the beach, yet steps away from the area where most people sit or play, so affords some privacy from foot traffic and activity. The views of the sea from inside the condo are spectacular, including a view from the second bedroom. This was also the first time we've heard the surf as we've slept. The furnishings of the unit are lovely and tropical. We cook most of our meals and found the kitchen to have everything we needed in terms of appliances, pots, pan and utensils. There's a docking station for an ipod/iphone so it was nice to play our music. There are two tvs. They look nice, but we never turned them on. One sofa converts to a bed, which was convenient when our children got into a fight and decided to sleep separately!! There's maid service on Wednesdays, which is nice. Aside from the peace and quite, our favorite part about staying at the Retreat is the amazing snorkeling that can be done right in front of the condo. We saw an assortment of beautiful fish, including a lizard fish, which we've never seen before. We saw a sea turtle from shore, but did not see it from the water. There are also sting ray, lobster, conch and baracuda! Red Sails Sports is conveniently located up the beach for other adventures that include day trips. We took the Wave Runner Safari trip and had a blast learning about the nearby mangroves and also snorkeled in a lovely area. They do other trips as well as rent snorkel and other water sports equipment (kayaks, wave runners, aqua bikes). For eating out, our favorite spots are the Kaibo Yacht Club for lunch and Over the Edge Cafe for dinner. If you're looking for island paradise and low-key tropical fun, this is the place for you!

I would stay at this condo again if I return to Rum Point. It was really big, much bigger than I expected. It was very clean and had tile throughout so that it stays clean. The bedrooms are fantastic since they both face the beach and have a beautiful beach view. The beds in both bedrooms were very comfortable and not worn out like many rental units get. I was impressed that they had extra towels including beach towels, and beach equipment like snorkels, flippers, noodles, etc. The kitchen was fully stocked with equipment although we didn't do much cooking. We almost stayed at Kaiboi down the road but I'm glad that we stayed at the Rum Point Resort since the beach here at Rum Point is better. You have the public Rum Point beach with chairs, hammocks, water sports rental, restaurant, gift shop about a 1 minute walk away. Otherwise you can stay on your own private beach (about 15 steps away from the porch) with plenty of chairs and shade trees which we did most of the time. It was drop dead beautiful, quiet and peaceful. The only drawback is that it takes about an hour drive to get to the seven mile beach area so if you have a beach that you want to check out or a restaurant in the seven mile area it will take you a while to get there and back.

As a corporate pilot I get to work at a lot of nice places. I'm always asking myself would I come back here if it was my nickel. This is definitely one of them. Laid back and unbusy, it didn't get much better

My family and I have stayed at this property 2 years in a row and will be there next year. I guess that pretty much says it all. The photos on the web site are accurate and the condo is very well maintained. The management on site is very helpful as well. The snorkeling right off the beach is awesome and the water is very calm. You will need to rent a car as the airport is 45 minutes away and the major grocery stores are about the same distance. We have done alot of travelling and keep returning to Grand CAyman as we find it very clean and safe..

We have stayed in many vacation rentals in Grand Cayman and other properties around the world. We did a lot of research before booking this unit. The owners were very friendly to us as were the other owners at the resort-we had informal sunset cocktails with several. Management was excellent and responsive to our needs. Gorgeous private setting and expansive views. Very well equipped kitchen and the photos do not do justice to the unit. Very clean and welcoming. With Rum Point next door, we enjoyed the beach bar restaurant and more formal and very good Rum Point restaurant. This area is not heavily touristed so if you are looking for some quiet times on the beach, this is the one. It is about a 40 minute drive to Georgetown if you are wanting a variety of shopping, restaurants, etc. so we drove into town to hang out, shop, then would go to a favorite restaurant. All main roads are well-marked and well-lighted. Very safe island which is not the case in most of the Caribbean anymore. I would recommend this to friends and families.

The Retreat complex is nice and small. We traveled at the slowest time of the year (last full week of September) so only 3 or 4 units were occupied. Pool was relaxing with good sun and shade as well as clean restrooms. If you have been to the tropics before, everything applies here...a few bugs, lizards (which we have at home and enjoy), crabs in the lawn, stray rain showers, humidity, and diurnal breeze pattern. Management was great. Thelda handled any small requests we had efficiently. She is the perfect person to have as onsite representative! The kitchen was quite nice. It is much easier to make pancakes when you can look at that ocean view through the master bedroom and the livingroom glass wall! All appliances were clean/nice and we felt comfortable using them (no 'ick' factor). Thelda had a small Weber grill rolled out for our use the first day. As the condo has a wonderful screened-in porch, I could grill while the family sat at the patio table. The condo was very clean and bright. As the size (excluding screened-in porch) was about 1800sq ft, we had more than enough room. The entire northwest wall is sliding glass doors. The adjoining master bedroom has a smaller wall of glass doors, which, like the ones in the living room, open onto the screened-in porch. The northeast wall of the master has an expansive unobstructed view of the ocean! So, the condo has an entire wall of unobstructed ocean view from the northwest to the northeast!! The master has a nice garden tub and double sink vanity. The second bedroom has nice double beds with windows overlooking the ocean also. A single sink and nice tub are included in the second bath off of that bedroom. A half bath is in the hall near the foyer. We made use of the washer/dryer combo (buy detergent, paper towels, and toilet paper on your shopping trip). The dining table was spacious and centrally located in the open living space. Overall, the condo is open, airy, bright, and inviting! Water trays were placed at each entrance to clean our feet. Thus, the tile floor stayed quite clean all week. I cannot say enough about the convenience of the porch. The porch also has a pair of ceiling fans to increase the airflow. Beach, only steps away, was perfect for the kids. Snorkeling was excellent. Location is perfect for snorkeling, diving, beach, bioluminescent bay (across the street), and starfish beach. Overall, perfect for our needs. Owner was great. My highest recommendation!

My wife and I stayed at the Retreat at Rum Pt from Sep.11 - Sep.16. The 2 bedroom ground floor unit was superb with a beautiful screened lanai. The unit was large, clean, and had all the amenities we needed. Views from the unit were great and it was nicely furnished and all around very comfortable. The complex itself is very nice and well maintained. Pool looked very inviting too, but we mostly enjoyed the beach right in front of the unit. September is somewhat off season I think and everything was quiet and relaxed which is what we needed for our vacation. Wreck bar just adjacent is great for lunch and drinks (wife really liked their smoothies). The main restaurant was closed til I think Nov. due to the off season, but that didn't bother us. Had a great meal at Over the Edge Cafe one evening. We did some cooking in our unit which was really nice too. We also did our grocery shopping at Hurley's the day after arrival and found it quite good. I highly recommend Retreat at Rum Pt and the on site management staff was great. Only thing is mosquitoes come out in the evening (just use bug spray and no big deal). Lastly, don't miss the Pedro St James historic site--it was really neat!

It wasn't so much the luxury of the Retreat, but more the exclusivity we loved so much. Location, location, location, that's the key-word! Absolutely a perfect location. Your "private" beach in front of the app., but if the kids want to play with other kids, just go over the rocks and enjoy the public beach, because it's better/saver swimming there. The appartment is well equiped, clean and spacious. The gym for Retreat residences needs updated, but hé, it sure has its charme. Rusty equipment makes you work out harder! and this expresses itself in the good shape you'll be while wearing your summer dress. The only disappointment of the week was that we ( a family from The Netherlands) missed 7 sunsets because of the cloudy sky. So, we have to go back to experience at least one ...how tedious...

This was the most relaxing vacation I had in many, many years. The condo was so lovely and prestine. Truly a private oasis. It could not be more perfectly situated - directly on the beach in the best area for snorkeling. Great restaurants near by with one just next door. Excursions to Sting Ray City were conveniently by the dock, just steps from the condo. You will need to rent a car for groceries and to venture out to explore this beautiful island. This condo is well maintained and offers seclusion with a private beach. No other hotels or condos adjacent so no crowds - much better choice than Seven Mile. There is a lunch/snack bar and restaurant, water sports and activities conveniently next door. The people were very friendly. If you need to recharge your battery and looking for a great private and quiet place to stay, choose this little heaven. I am sure to return.

Booking: Couldn't have been easier. Gigi answered all questions and was extremely accommodating and prompt. She emailed paperwork. I signed, scanned, emailed baked. Done. Arrival: Photos do not do this location justice. It's absolutely gorgeous! Upon arrival, the condo was spotless. The condo owners thought of just about everything to make your stay worry-free--from plenty of sheets/blankets, kitchen utensils, wifi, restaurant recommendations, even an internet phone line to call free back to the US. Stay: When you stay at Retreat 23, you have the option to do as much or as little as you want. With the Rum Point Club right next door, we did their sunset sail and Stingray City tour. Highly recommend. However, there is very good snorkeling in front of the condo--especially for beginners as there is a small reef in about 5-feet of water. The Retreat beach was never crowded and the Rum Point cruise ship visitors never ventured over to "our" beach. We found a beautiful spot on the beach under a large shaded casuarina tree. Very nice. We also enjoyed the condos large patio. We ate many meals there and enjoyed a few books from the lounge chairs. The location of the condo is right off the beach, so you won't have anyone peering over at you. However, while we were there, the complex was undergoing some routine maintenance and workers passed by our patio very frequently on weekdays, so not quite as private as we would have liked. This really didn't bother us as we were glad they were doing so well maintaining the condos. Another tip: the bedroom windows get a lot of sunlight at 5am (early summer). If you are a light sleeper, just pull the hurricane shutters outside. It acts almost like a blackout shade! Out and about: We loved the peace and quite of the Retreat. However, if you want to venture out, you really need to rent a car as the island has many interesting places to visit. We toured the north shore and east end. We selected a day with no cruise ships in port to visit the west side of the island--7 mile beach, turtle farm, Hell, etc. Highly recommend on non-cruiseship days. Hardly any crowds at all! Overall: Loved Cayman. Loved the Retreat 23. You can't beat the value compared to 7-mile beach. If we return to Cayman, we'll definitely return to the Retreat!

The Retreat is in a fabulous location. We explored Grand Cayman during our stay and would have to say this is absolutely the most lovely part of the island. The sea is truly stunning and the beach is right outside the door! This condo is was a great find! It was sparkling clean, comfortable, tastefully furnished and very well equipped. Although there is a pool, we didn't use it because with the most perfect beaches so close by there was no need! The owner was extremely helpful with a fantastic knowledge of Grand Cayman, tips on places to go and things to do. Our favourite was to go to the beach bar next door for a drink and then keep walking... the beach is simply glorious and completely deserted. We saw stingrays, all kinds of fish, sea slugs, starfish and conches as we walked! The nearest convenience store is about two miles away so you will probably need a car. There is a very good restaurant next door, but it is quite expensive. There are also two other bars/restaurants within a few miles - our favourite was Driftwood, a very low-key bar that also does food, has a juke box and is on the beach! Enjoy!

This place is amazing...we have been repeat visitors for many years now & plan on keeping it that way. It is such a comfortable place with beautiful upgrades. The view from every room is amazing & truly gives you the feeling of being in paradise. There is nothing like sitting on the lanai in the evening with the ceiling fans to add to the refreshing breeze that you get from being right on the point. Rum Point & the Wreck bar just a hop, skip & jump away add to the fun and relaxation with a great outdoor beach bar/grill, as well as whatever water sport you could want to do from snorkeling & swimming w/the Rays or just going out on a kayak, Red Sail Sports will hook you up. For you shoppers there is the Treasure Chest for swim suits, flip flops, beach toys, or souveniers. All in all my family LOVES The Retreat and Rum Point and will continue to go back as long as they will have us.

Our vacation was lovely. This resort is quiet and the water is great for kids to play in because it's calm and shallow for a long ways out. The unit was clean and well-maintained and was a great location - being away from the main beach so you coud have privacy but close enough to walk. We enjoyed snorkeling right out in front of the unit (though it is a bit rocky so you have to be prepared), cocktail hour on the beach at a picnic table in front of the unit and lots of time at the beach. We love this spot and will definitely go back!!!
Owner response:Just to be clear, "away from the main beach" is about 30 yards! Our unit is on the corner of the two beaches.

I booked this vacation on a recomendation and the pictures online. The young lady I travel with and I travel atleast 3 weeks a year and have high expectations because we are both in the service industry. The pictures of the place did not do it justice, from the minute you open the door your blown away by the view there are sliding glass doors that open onto a screened in porch that looks over a small yard then beach and ocean the master bedroom has the same doors and view. We are both chefs and loved the kitchen as you prepare dinner your involved with everything else going on inside and out so its no chore to cook. The staff fulfilled all are needs. We were ther during pirate week and had a ball we went to a fashion show an aution and had drinks everynight at the yacht club down the street. We made an instint tradition of drinks by the pool just before bed what a way to wind down. I'm afraid your stuck with us atleast 1 week a year always Rory

This condo is wonderful, very clean and comfortable with all the amenities required for a perfect stress free vacation. The location is amazing with beautiful views of the ocean and easy access to Rum Point and the Wreck Bar next door for cooling cocktails. The Retreat is very well maintained with helpful staff on hand. The owner was very easy to deal with and also very helpful with local info. All in all my family and I had a brilliant vacation and would definately rent this condo again. Highly recommended for a peaceful relaxing home away from home vacation in a paradise location.

Wow, we loved your condo at Rum Point. It’s a really lovely, comfortable and beautifully appointed home. And what a perfect location. We did some of the best snorkeling of the week right in front of your place. I’d never seen an eagle ray before and a huge one swam right below us on the the first day. We also swam with a very friendly turtle and lots of other charmers. I have to say my favorite was a little 6” stingray who basically played with me in about a foot of water near the beach. We’d been to Rum Point many years ago with the girls when we were staying on 7 Mile Beach about a decade ago. We liked it then, and more now, because it is away from the hubbub of the “city” life. It was an unforgettable week and lots of fun sharing it with our friends, one of whom learned to snorkle in front of the condo. Now she's addicted, like us! And we loved checking out the local restaurants and sights together. It was especially nice having the Retreat at Rum Point right on the other side of the hedge. Every day it was like having the choice of an all-inclusive resort or a private island get-away. You wouldn't know it was there unless you wanted to hang out at their cool bar or yummy restaurant...or swim under the dock. Or...um...sit in their beach chairs...or walk on their side of the beach...I WANT TO GO BACK!!! There was some native festival that we missed too. What a relaxing get-away. I guess I’m fully back to reality now. But there will always be beautiful memories. MaryAnn and Chuck Schultz

From the moment you enter the condo the beauty and tranquility of its location is apparent. A vista of white sand and turquoise ocean is visible from every room and the temptation to run out into the sun is irresistible. Activities - and non-activities - abound. If your choice is to relax, first step onto the large screened porch and read for a while, then walk out from the porch directly onto the beach to sunbathe and perhaps walk the long secluded beach to the right. If activity is your preference, snorkeling from the beach is spectacular and not to be missed, or you might decide to walk to the left to the Red Sail Sports rental and activity center to participate in your choice of water sport. Excursions to Stingray City leave from the dock. Even if you don't go it's worth walking along to the end catch a glimpse of the resident shark, a sea turtle or the gorgeous fish inhabiting the reef. And if you don't feel like cooking, the Wreck Bar and Grill and Rum Point Club Restaurant are next door, with the Kaibo Bar and Grill a little further down the road. We have visited twice, once with family and once with friends, and can't wait to return. The condo has to be in the best location in The Retreat complex if not on the whole island, as the ground floor, tip of Rum Point, direct beach access is pretty hard to beat. It's as if you have your own beachfront home in a little piece of paradise.
