It is believed that the home was built in 1898 by local contractor JJ Waring for Mr. John S. Banks, an employee with the Plant Railroad Company. The Plant System was a system of railroads and steamboats in the U.S. South, taken over by the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad in 1902. The Original line of the system, named after its owner, Henry B. Plant, was the Savannah, Florida and Western Railway, running across southern Georgia.
The home is featured in the Savannah Victorian District Design Guidelines as an example of the Queen Anne style typified by its use of composite classical columns on the wraparound porch, diamond stain glass window to the hallway and decorative shingles to the pediments. It has been beautifully restored to its original spender with many modern upgrades.
There is a large backyard with seating for six, a wonderful place for family or group activities or to simply relax with morning coffee, evening drinks, or just a good book.
The home features soaring 11’ ceilings, large windows, heartpine flooring, beautiful original mouldings, and pocket doors; this home is a true Savannah Victorian.
