Welcome to the Pines at Chalk Cliffs! This modest house provides a simple, cozy and relaxing getaway for any group. Whether you are on a romantic getaway, a family vacation, or a hunting trip this is the house for you!

It didn’t take us long to figure out once arriving that this house provided all of our needs. It was like the owner had previously thought about everything we might need to make our stay as comfortable as possible. We enjoyed swinging on the front porch while admiring the spectacular views of the Chalk Cliffs, exploring the ponderosa pine forest right out our back door, fishing at Wright’s Lake (which was within walking distance to the house), and just relaxing in the house enjoying each other’s company.

The bear cubs were especially happy about the many games and toys to play with that were provided for their use. Meal time was a breeze as the kitchen was fully equipped with everything we could have possibly needed. The décor around the house was both welcoming and inviting and had a cozy mountain cabin feel, which we loved.

If you are looking for things to do there is plenty in the area. The Mt Princeton Hot Springs is just 1.8 miles away and Monarch Ski Resort is 45 minutes away just to name a few. The house is conveniently located between Salida and Buena Vista.

So come to the Pines at Chalk Cliffs and leave feeling rejuvenated just like I did!

We stayed here for a few nights during Christmas break. It was a good base for skiing at Monarch and soaking in Mt Princeton Hot Springs. Spectacular views of the sunrise on the Chalk Cliffs. We were greeted by a herd of deer when we checked in. The place was great and more than spacious for our family of 6. I highly recommend it!

We've had the most wonderful time here this week. We went skiing at Ski Cooper 3 times, soaked at the Mt. Princeton Hot Springs 2 times (love, love, love soaking in the creek). Had great pizza and beer at Amica's in Salida and we've spent lots of time just admiring the view of the chalk cliffs. This is a very special place!

We had an amazing visit! Thank you so much. We went rafting in the Royal Gorge with the Clear Creek Rafting company and had a blast! We highly recommend them. We visited St. Elmo and the hot springs and enjoyed the local shopping and dining in Salida and Buena Vista. This has been a most beautiful and relaxing trip, especially our time spent right here on your front porch taking in the incredible view. We appreciate you lending us your home.

Fabulous week in Colorado! Thank you so much for allowing our family to share your home. Fun filled week with lots of family time enjoying the outdoors. Train ride in Leadville - GREAT Pizza at High Mountain Pies. Rafting down Brown's Canyon with Noah's Ark. Dad was the only one to fall in and at the worst spot (Widow Maker Falls). But he will live to float again. ATV rides at Marshall Pass - great view of Mount Ouray from the Continental Divide and Starvation Point. Fun time by the entire family. The Boy's bagging their first 14'er (Mt. Democrat). This was Dad's eighth 14'er, Mom providing plenty of support. Followed by a long soaking at the Mt. Princeton Hot Springs. But the best part was sitting on the front porch with Mom, drinking coffee and enjoying the view of the Cliffs.

We had a great time here. The views and quiet are wonderful. We had a wedding at Mt. Princeton Hot Springs, and this was very close. We saw deer in the yard and heard a bear trying to get into the garbage can at 3 am. We spent lots of time on the front porch, and that was the best part.

Two years ago my husband and I tried to summit Mt. Princeton. Unfortunately a thunderstorm forced us to turn back at only 500 feet from the summit. This weekend we returned with close friends to finish the mountain. Thanks for the great place to stay while we enjoyed the outdoors and friends! Would love to come back for our next snowshoeing trip!

Happy Labor Day Weekend! What a wonderful place to create the most special memories with friends. My husband and I ventured from Littleton, CO and met friends who traveled up from Taos, NM. Buena Vista seemed like a perfect midway meeting ground. Little did we know that it's Colorado's best kept secret! We adore this area and packed in 3 days of hiking the falls, fishing in Wrights Lake, feeding the chipmunks in St. Elmo's ghost town, and soaking in the Mt Princeton pools. And we thoroughly enjoyed quality time shared within the walls of your perfect space - The Pines. Thank you for creating such a wonderful home to share. What a fantastic location and most perfect view! We will return.

                          Owner info

                          Year Purchased: 2007

About the owner: We're two professional couples and a 13 year old son with a great love of the outdoors. We're experienced boaters who have floated all the great rivers in the American West.

Why the Owner Chose Buena Vista:
We love the Arkansas River Valley and especially the area by the Chalk Cliffs at the base of Mt. Princeton. Our cabin is in a quiet peaceful area, yet close to all the fun stuff available to do in this area. Every time we get back to the cabin after a day of activity, it's like returning to a retreat.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
The quiet and solitude at our cabin are exceptional. We're off the main road going to St. Elmo, so we don't get any road noise. We can walk to fishing at Wright's Lake and Chalk Lake is about a 5 minute drive up the road. Both lakes are well stocked with trout. If we decide to go rafting, we're close to the put-in for Browns Canyon. We enjoy happy hour on our large front deck while taking in the wildlife and the spectacular views of the chalk cliffs. Horseback riding trips from Deer Valley Ranch pass by our cabin at least twice a day during the summer. Also, the Mt. Princeton Hot Springs are very close, if we decide to take the day off from mountain biking or fishing. It's truly a great place.
