Welcome to the Pines at Chalk Cliffs! This modest house provides a simple, cozy and relaxing getaway for any group. Whether you are on a romantic getaway, a family vacation, or a hunting trip this is the house for you!
It didn’t take us long to figure out once arriving that this house provided all of our needs. It was like the owner had previously thought about everything we might need to make our stay as comfortable as possible. We enjoyed swinging on the front porch while admiring the spectacular views of the Chalk Cliffs, exploring the ponderosa pine forest right out our back door, fishing at Wright’s Lake (which was within walking distance to the house), and just relaxing in the house enjoying each other’s company.
The bear cubs were especially happy about the many games and toys to play with that were provided for their use. Meal time was a breeze as the kitchen was fully equipped with everything we could have possibly needed. The décor around the house was both welcoming and inviting and had a cozy mountain cabin feel, which we loved.
If you are looking for things to do there is plenty in the area. The Mt Princeton Hot Springs is just 1.8 miles away and Monarch Ski Resort is 45 minutes away just to name a few. The house is conveniently located between Salida and Buena Vista.
So come to the Pines at Chalk Cliffs and leave feeling rejuvenated just like I did!

Awesome Views of the Chalk Cliffs, Five Star Guest Reviews
Year Purchased: 2007
Why the Owner Chose Buena Vista
We love the Arkansas River Valley and especially the area by the Chalk Cliffs at the base of Mt. Princeton. Our cabin is in a quiet peaceful area, yet close to all the fun stuff available to do in this area. Every time we get back to the cabin after a day of activity, it's like returning to a retreat.
The Unique Benefits at this House
The quiet and solitude at our cabin are exceptional. We're off the main road going to St. Elmo, so we don't get any road noise. We can walk to fishing at Wright's Lake and Chalk Lake is about a 5 minute drive up the road. Both lakes are well stocked with trout. If we decide to go rafting, we're close to the put-in for Browns Canyon. We enjoy happy hour on our large front deck while taking in the wildlife and the spectacular views of the chalk cliffs. Horseback riding trips from Deer Valley Ranch pass by our cabin at least twice a day during the summer. Also, the Mt. Princeton Hot Springs are very close, if we decide to take the day off from mountain biking or fishing. It's truly a great place.
Owner's Map of Buena Vista
We're two professional couples and a 13 year old son with a great love of the outdoors. We're experienced boaters who have floated all the great rivers in the American West.

My family of 5 thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Pines. My boys fished every morning and almost every evening in nearby Wright's Lake. We found Chalk Lake a few days into our stay and they fished there often, also. We went horseback riding at Mt. Princeton stables which is a short drive away. The cabin is extremely roomy. The kids enjoyed having their own TV's in their rooms, and the kitchen was fully stocked. I cooked more in the cabin than I do at home! My 5 year old really enjoyed the box of toys, and I felt very at ease in such a family friendly place. If we ever visit this area of Colorado again, we would be happy to stay here. There is plenty of room to bring grandma and granpa along, also.

Stayed a week at The Pines at Chalk Cliffs. Everynight my husband and I watched the Big Dipper appear in the "dip" on Chalk Cliffs. It was breathtaking. The stars in the sky seemed so close and when the wind blew, the pine trees would "whistle". The home was so relaxing we hated to leave. Hope to return again next year.

We stayed in this house in July of 2010 with another couple. We have stayed in the Buena Vista area for several years, and I can honestly say this house was the most comfortable, best equipped and most pleasant that we have stayed in. The owner was great to work with, before and during our stay. The view from the porch of the Chalk Cliffs is beautiful, and we spent many hours on the porch relaxing in the swing watching the deer, hummingbirds and stellar jays! The house is close to fishing, hiking and an easy drive to Buena Vista and Salida. The kitchen has everything you could ever need, there is a gas grill in the back (great for cooking trout) and that porch swing. We hiked for awhile on the Colorado Trail which is close by, visited several of our favorite fishing spots (Chalk Lake, Cottonwood Lake, O'Havers Lake) and had dinner at Mother's - a great restaurant in Buena Vista. I'd recommend this place to anyone, and hope we are able to visit again next summer.

My husband and I stayed here at the Chalk Cliffs in July, and our grown son, his wife and their two children joined us for a few days. The kids had plenty to do with hikes, nearby river and lake to fish in, the hot springs pools at Nathrop, and even a short mountain hike to see a waterfall. There were even toys in the house for our toddler to play with! Everything was so convenient, and Salida and Buena Vista were fun towns that were only about 15 minutes away. We will definitely try to return next year.

The Cabin was terrific. Our Family thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. The view from the front porch was specatular, great place for morning coffee. The Cabin was clean and up to date. The photos on VRBO are accurate. Ken was terrific to deal with, very accomodating. Buena Vista and Salida are nice walking towns. Of course the view of the Collegiate Range is fantastic and weather was refreshing. The Cabin is centrally located for the outdoor enthusist with easy access to Class III river, 14,000 foot mountains and nice walking trails. I would highly recommend the Pines at Chalk Cliff.
