Absolutely wonderful

Guest: Ellie (Viroqua, WI)
Date of Stay: 05/11/12 Review Submitted: 05/15/12

This spot was everything they said it was and more. Loved the house which was very well appointed and clean. And, the view of and the nearness to Lake Pepin was amazing. Lots of birds, orioles, ducks, eagles, hummingbirds that we saw right from the front patio. We named a pair of ducks that were quite social, Gertrude and Heathcliff. Drove the loop around Lake Pepin. The Eagle Center at Wabasha was well worth going to. Very educational. Went to some shops but we just hung out a lot because it was so beautiful there. I would absolutley recommend this property to friends and family and hope to return myself.

Hello Dan and Char, On behalf of our group, I want to thank you for the hospitality of Park Place on Pepin. We had a wonderful ladies' getaway to celebrate our 7th member's 50th birthday. We enjoyed your house very much. An unanticipated surprise was being to participate in some of the events of the annual Lake City Winterfest! Park Place on Pepin was the BEST SEAT IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD!!! We walked around town yesterday afternoon, enjoyed the "Smoosh Races", watched part of the construction of the Ice Bar, and some of us even watched the Polar Plunge. To top off the evening, we were able to enjoy a "front row seat" inside for the fireworks!!! Your home was very comfortable and accommodating for our group's activities. Because we were staying in january, we had some difficulty regulating the thermostat. We didn't know there were some instructions in the manual on the diningroom buffet. Even with those directions, the downstairs/main level was very cold both nights. I was on the sleeper-sofa. I am not a "freezy-bug", but I was chilled. It might be a good idea to have another blanket available for the sleeper-sofa. Nothing was a deterent from our group having an extremely enjoyable time! Thank you again for the great venue for us to have a winter getaway!

Owner response:Thanks you for your wonderful review and feedback regarding Park Place on Pepin and the Lake City Winterfest and Smoosh Race activities! Unfortunately, your weekend was one of the colder ones. We have a booklet of instructions for your use, and as it notes, the thermostat can be affected by use of the fireplace. Thanks to for your suggestion as we will keep an extra blanket available for use on those extra chilly nights. Thanks again, Dan & Char

Ladies Weekend

Guest: Barb (Maple Grove MN)

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in mid-October, for a Ladies Weekend get-away. The house is in a fantastic location, and is nicely decorated, comfortably furnished. We enjoyed sitting out around the firepit in the front of the house, looking at the moonlight on the lake - beautiful! Would definately recommend a stay here, the only downside is the bathrooms are a bit awkward; one is off the kitchen and the other is through the master bedroom. We made it work, and had a great time. It is close to restaurants, shopping, and a great walking path.

Womens weekend

Our group of women meet every year in the spring. We are always looking for a nice place to enjoy beautiful scenery and relax and sleep well in comfy beds. Park Place had all of that and more. Lake Pepin is a wondrous spot and Park place looks right on it. The town was welcoming and charming with interesting shops and great food. We had a gourmet dinner out at Nosh and it was great. The house felt like you were staying in a friends home and was very warm and comfortable. My favorite memory was sitting in the living room with the fireplace with my girlfriends and all of the sudden we had two bald eagles circling in front of us over the lake and came down and landed in the trees right out front. We hope to be back.

Our stay at Park Place

Date of Stay: 10/04/10 Review Submitted: 10/18/10

Dan and Char Thank you for a wonderful place to spend time together with friends. We found your place comfortable and spacious for the four couples. We especially enjoyed the fire pit in the evenings, the beautiful view of the lake and park across the street. We fed the seagulls and the ducks each morning and evening and after day one, it was like they were looking for us to come down to the concrete retaining wall for their bread. Met a lot of very friendly local people or neighbors out walking their dogs and enjoyed talking with them. There are sure some friendly folks in Lake City, Minnesota. Your neighbor, I believe, named Bruce came in the day we were leaving and said he grew up their and your wife Char in the house we stayed in. The weather was fantastic and the fall colors of the trees left and right were beautiful in the morning sun across the lake. Our favorite restaurant was the Bronx and the owner, Stacy was delightful. Visited several of the Apple Orchard stores and we bought many memories to take with us. Thank you again, Evan & Sue Harms PS - By the way, the Rhythm and Brew offered WiFi access at the left side of the restaurant and the owners were very nice. The restaurant was full, so they opened up the dining area so we could eat breakfast and use our laptops, the only time we needed access. It is good you don't have it at the house on Peppin Place as we spent some valuable time visiting with each other. You binder with information was very helpfull as well as the maps of the area.

My weekend with my Sisters

Guest: Claudia (Sauk Rapids, Mn )
Date of Stay: 08/22/10 Review Submitted: 08/31/10

This year we Sisters (4) choose to spend our vacation in Lake City. We arrived on Sunday and left on Wednesday. The house was fine, could have used a good vaccuming. The weather was extremely hot so the upstairs was rather warm, but we managed. The view of the lake was fabulous and Tuesday morning the weather cooled down and a great breeze was coming in off the lake, it was Wonderful!!! Lots of fun things to do, spent some time in Red Wing, and drove down to Lanesboro and did one of the Amish tours. Great time with the sisters as who knows how many more of these trips we will be able to make. Claudia

Owner response:Thank you and your sisters Claudia for your wonderful time spent as our guests at Park Place on Pepin. Unfortunately for your group, we have a few incidents of food stains incurred on the carpets immediately in front of your stay that we were not able to shampoo before your arrival, so please accept our apologies. And yes - it was unusually hot for your stay, with daily temperatures in the mid-90's nearly every day, which is untypical of the lake area; glad the central A/C and wonderful lake breeze were there for you. We enjoyed hosting you and your family as there is so much to see and do in the beautiful areas surrounding Park Place on Pepin and all throughout the Mississippi River valley. We thank you again for your stay and hope it becomes a long family tradition. ~Dan

A wonderful family reunion!

Guest: Rachel (MN)
Date of Stay: 07/09/10 Review Submitted: 08/06/10

We recently spent a long weekend at Park Place for a family reunion. The location of the home is beautiful. We enjoyed sitting on the front patio watching the activity on the lake. We also loved having bonfires at night. The area offers a lot for families. We took walks around the docks and to the playgrounds. We also enjoyed how close the home is to the downtown shops and restaurants. The hosts made sure we had everything we needed and even called to check in on us during our stay. Thanks for opening your home to our family!

Owner response:Please accept our appreciation and extend it to your family for your stay. The flagstone patio with its wonderful overlooks of the lake is a great place to unwind your evenings, so we are glad you were able to make good use of it. And thank you too for sharing with future guests how close and convenient everything is! Whether staying in the immediate vicinity or traveling throughout the area, there is always something fun and interesting to do for all ages. Thanks again to you and your family for allowing us to host your reunion. ~Dan

Writer's Retreat on Lake Pepin

Guest: Teri B. (Minneapolis MN)
Date of Stay: 04/18/10 Review Submitted: 04/22/10

I spent four days at Park Place on Pepin with three friends. We needed a clean, quiet environment to work on projects. We were pleased when we arrived and walked through the door. The property is clean, well-maintained, and has lots of good sunlight. If we meet in Lake City in the future, we will call Park Place first for reservations. The owner, Daniel, went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and satisfied.

Owner response:We're glad we could provide Teri and company with our place for we take a lot of pride in all that Park Place on Pepin and the area has to offer. We enjoyed hosting this group and will certainly look for them in the future. ~Dan

Our family stayed a few days at the end of March. The house was very roomy, clean and cozy, and it had a fabulous view of the lake!! Our family of 5 was very comfortable. We loved walking around the marina and exploring the town's park, little shops and restaurants, and there are many things to see and do within a 15-20 minute drive. We would love to come back again. Thank you for sharing your house with us!!

Enjoyed our stay although the weather didn't cooperate on Saturday for our fishing adventure. So we enjoyed the hiking instead! The entire family really enjoyed observing the walleye master tournament weigh in at the nearby marina and anyone who enjoys fishing/boating might want to consider a stay! It was most convenient and a gorgeous area.We felt the accommodations excellent and the bedding and mattresses were incredible for good night's rest!

I can not say enough about this place. It was very clean and well kept. We took advantage of the attractions near by, but I would have been just as happy to stay in at the house. We relaxed in the front family room by the fire. It was comfortable for my wife and me, and my 4 kids felt at home there also. We referred to it as our new house. It was a pleasure to stay there, and we can't wait to return in the Summer if possible.

Last summer ('08) we had a family reunion (42 people) in beautiful Lake City. We loved Park Place, which was a great meeting place for all our activities and meals. (In addition to the house we had a few hotel rooms.) Everyone enjoyed boating, the beach, tennis, golf, renting the bike for four, playing in the grassy area across the street along beautiful Lake Pepin, picnics, walks, fishing, shell hunting and just sitting around visiting and enjoying each other. And of course eating. We were there during the Olympics and one evening half of the group watched TV in the family room and the other half were in the living room watching slides of ourselves as children 50 years ago, which was hilarious. Everyone had a wonderful time. They said the only thing wrong was that it wasn't long enough so this summer we're coming back and staying longer. It was very clean with a fully equipped kitchen and a much better place for a large group to meet than any hotel. I highly recommend this beautiful picturesque vacation spot. We loved it.

Stayed for a weekend in July with a group of 10 (yes!) women. Loved the proximity to the lake and shopping. The sweet, spacious, and sparkling clean home was perfect for our trip. Would have loved two showers when it came time to clean up, but loved the rest. Recommend without hesitation.

Owner response:Glad to hear Megan's group had a wonderful time - we are looking into building out a full third bathroom on the second floor and hope to possibly have it available for the upcoming season - Dan

A group of 7 (4 adults, 3 children) rented this house in July. We had a wonderful and relaxing time. The house is very clean, spacious, comfortable beds, nice kitchen, beautiful yard and views of Lake Pepin. Easy walk to town. My only suggestion is to bring water shoes if swimming as the beaches have lots of rocks (both nearby house and HokSiLa Park).Great fishing also. Beautiful drive on Hwy 61.

Owner response:Thanks Cindy! Yes due to increased rainfall, Lake Pepin was a bit higher during Cindy's group's stay, making the beach a bit less sandy. A number of other groups have also commented on the wonderful fishing the area offers.

A group of 5 girls stayed here for two nights just to have some time away. The house is very spacious, light and open with a nice-sized kitchen. Everything was very tidy with clean linens, etc. Considering it was the end of Feb., it was nice to curl up in the den with a fire going and look out over Lake Pepin. We look forward to coming back in the summer and enjoying the back porch and front patio. The owners have done a wonderful job with updating and decorating this charming place.

My group of 6 women used for a knitting retreat in Jan, 2008. Very nice, newly decorated/renovated older home. Only comment was that both bathrooms are on main floor and the staircase going up was a little steep so there was concern about the nighttime runs to the bathroom! Accommodated our needs of watching DVDs while knitting in front of the fire. Very pleasant weekend. Plan to go back.

A group of gal friends and I stayed at this charming home October 2007. Located right on Lake Pepin with just a small, very lightly traveled street separating the lake from the home, this place is definitely recommended for any type of group. Loved it! It has lots of rooms for sleeping, a complete kitchen, and is really quite quaint. We will for sure be going back again.

We had an awesome time. The place was spotless. The only negative thing was that it was a bunch of women and I think we could've used a few more mirrors on the walls to use when getting ready. Otherwise we would definitely recommend this to anyone. No one bothered us and the view was spectacular.
