Awesome Family Vacation
Awesome Family Vacation

This beautiful home was even better than the pictures and description. It was very clean and had everything we possibly needed. Outside we enjoyed the beach and the canoe very much. The landscaping was beautiful. Three generations and many different interests. During the day we hiked, biked, shopped and went for rides. At the end of the day we all went back "home" for supper, talks and games. A whale watching cruise and lobster boat tour were close by and well worth it. We purchased live lobster from a local fisherman everyday. It was the best. It was a fantastic family vacation that we will cherish forever. We hope to return someday soon.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Our large group stayed in the Cove House and Cottage last week (9 stayed on the property and others nearby) and to a person - all loved the property. Clean and spacious, the combined 7 bedrooms and open kitchen/lounge/dining/living area in the larger home afforded us privacy and also a place to gather for our several meals, game-playing, music appreciation and even a visit from a local magician! The views from the rooms on the East side of the house and cottage were all spectacular of the cove - it was wonderful to see at dawn, dusk and both in sunny weather and what we called "atmospheric" weather (rain). The side yard of the house provided a good spot to star gaze on clear nights, and the right of way to the beach made for lots of rock and shell hunting. We were surprised to find that the beach-side of the home was natural (vs. landscaped), but in the end, that lent a feeling that we were out in nature, and getting to the beach was just a quick walk away. The kitchen had all the essentials, including for an impromptu cake-making, and plenty of wine glasses and dishes, etc. for serving meals to a large group. The beds were very comfortable, all with foam toppers and nice linens. All the guests commented on how well they slept - on the quiet side! The only "heads up" I would give is that the upstairs / Master bedroom in the cottage is up a very steep set of stairs - not suitable for the very young or very old. Otherwise the cottage is also quite well equipped, and I can imagine staying there if traveling alone. 25 minutes from Bar Harbor - we had no problems driving to shop, dine or tour. And the SW Harbor grocer was less than 15 mins away. LOVED this property (this was my 7th stay on Mt. Desert - all rentals), and would definitely stay again if traveling with a large group. Thank you Mary Ann and Richard.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This is truly a lovely home to stay in! The location is wonderful if you are looking for a quiet and serene place to stay. Beautiful water views...we saw a bald eagle on several mornings in the trees across the water. It's very quiet here, even with guests in the cottage behind the main house. The owner's are lovely and take wonderful care of the property. They even had recommendations for us when we ran into them tending the garden. The rental process was very easy and straight forward. The house itself is charming and a really nice place to stay with all the comforts that you need. This really is not your bland rental house; they have decorated it and stocked it like they live there full time. We'd never been to Mt Desert and coming from Chicago, we weren't looking to be in town but still wanted to within close driving distance. We explored the entire island and can say that the quiet side is really the best. You end up driving a bit more to get to Acadia but you are close to many restaurants and shops. I would love to come back here and would certainly recommend it for couples looking for quiet time or for the whole family.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

This was our family's first visit to Mt Desert Island and Bar Harbor. We have rented many properties over the last 20 yrs, and this house is by far the nicest we have ever stayed at. It is beautifully decorated, it has a great floor plan, it is well stocked, and most of all it is in the perfect location! We kept extremely busy visting Bass Harbor, Thurston's, Jordan Pond House, Acadia National Park, Echo Lake, and Bar Harbor. Retreating back to Richard and Mary Ann's house at the end of each day made our vacation one of the best our family has had. If you are thinking of visiting Mt Desert Island, don't pass this rental up!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 4/4

A beautiful house in a gorgeous setting over looking the water on the quietside of the island. 5 minute walk to an amazing beach for a walk or exploring. 10 minutes to SW Harbor. Nice biking right from the front door. Not too far from the usual hiking in Acadia or a fresh water swim or paddle. Close enough to Bar Harbor to go for dinner or a movie, but doesn't have the "baggage" of crowds or traffic. If you are looking for a quiet "get away" this is the spot! The house is gorgeous. Not your typical Maine cabin. Wonderfully appointed, very comfortable and clean. Plenty of space if you have a rainy day and need to be inside, even if you are a large group. Kitchen is great for cooking family meals. Gorgeous views/sunsets from the second floor bedroom decks. The owners are very approachable, but not intrusive. Would definitely come back.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/3

We really enjoyed our week at the Cove House. It was our first visit to Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park so we were uncertain about where we wanted to stay. The owners accurately described West Tremont as being on the "quiet side" of the island. Although we may have logged a few extra miles because of this choice, we have no regrets and would do it again. We discovered a number of treasures on the "quiet side" that we would have missed had we not stayed here, while still enjoying the more well known island highlights. The house was first rate. It had a great floor plan, was beautifully furnished, well stocked and maintained in addition to offering a secluded setting, beach access and a beautiful view. It was a great place to relax after a day spent hiking and biking in the amazing natural beauty of this area. We would love to return with the whole family!Did you find this review helpful? Just Like A Dream Comes True Rating: 5 out of 5 Respond to Review Thuy Ai Ohio Review Submitted May 31, 2011 Date of Stay May 27, 2011 I've always loved Maine. But I have never visited West Tremont. I was searching on the net and found this beautiful home and glad that Richard and Mary Ann would be willing to rent it out for 4 days. We were all delighted that the house was not only spotless, it was tastefully decorated and very roomy for the 6.5 of us. Ma Ann and Richard seem to have traveled quite a bit and it shows in their collections of artifacts that give their home a warm welcoming touch. We also like the fact that Mary Ann could speak French fluently.Wow! The only thing that we would do differently is that next time, we would come later in June. Personally, I wouldn't mind to stay there during the winter months. This is a beautiful home, with a gorgeous view, and the book collections would keep me busy and the cozy fire place will keep me warm.
