Sorry for any inconvenience, this property is currently under remodel until March 2012. We are having a new custom pool and jacuzzi built that will magnify the amazing views. We are also adding a third bedroom and updating the home to ensure a comfortable stay. Once this remodel is complete there will be two master suites and a third bedroom. We are busy making paradise even better so please check back with us for your next trip to Costa Rica. We have tentative plans to be done by January 2012 but have blocked out the extra time at this point to ensure the fantastic transformation is ready for guests.
Casa Del Bosque is a 3500 square foot luxury home located on 10 acres of the most biodiverse primary rain forest in the Northern Hemisphere! The home is the only rental in the area WALKING DISTANCE from two waterfalls, various jungle and canopy zip-line tours, butterfly farm, Orchid garden, and of course, the beach! When comparing our rental with others ask not how far, but how long it takes to get from the beach. Most other rentals although near the beach are 15 minutes of slow 4X4 driving up scary unpaved roads.
The home was placed on a 750ft high ridge to provide a jaw-dropping 180 degree view of the ocean below, covering more than 60 miles of coastline. One can easily see Manuel Antonio in the North, the Osa Peninsula in the South, and a clear view of Cano Island off shore. On an average day you can easily monitor 100's of square miles of ocean surface from the residence. The area where the home is located in a private area, 1 minute off the coastal highway.
You are going to see and hear a huge variety of flora and fauna all day and night. The estate boasts a 300ft cascade that can be explored by those who wish to strap on a machete and follow me! In the afternoon, the sky is packed with thunderheads, and together with the setting sun, is incredible.
At night, stars along side the moon light up the landscape. Then there are the sounds of the jungle to keep your juices flowing while you lie in bed (unless you can't hear them because you're watching the TV's satellite hookup).
The home is openly designed for maximum ventilation with large windows and ceiling fans throughout. There are views from every room of either the ocean, jungle, or both. The home is fully furnished. 24 hour security is provided!!!!
The first floor includes a large, American-style, fully-equipped kitchen, big counters with bar stools, dining table and chairs, plus a TV area with large comfortable sofa-beds. Two bed rooms are located on the first floor. A Jr. Master Suite with a king bed and full bath and a nice bedroom with a queen bed. There is also a full bathroom and laundry room with washer and dryer on the first floor.
The giant Master Suite consists of the entire second story where you find a vaulted ceiling and floor made of dark tropical hardwoods. It is richly furnished. There are two beds (one California king and one queen), two sofa beds, a large coffee table, two large reading chairs, an entertainment center with satellite TV, stereo, and VCR. The bathroom has two sinks, a huge shower, plus a separate Jacuzzi bathtub. Also, there is a large outdoor patio With a translucent roof for tanning, relaxing, reading, and birdwatching, even when it is raining hard!
A outside covered patio surrounds the first floor patio area where you will find hammocks, ping pong table, fooseball table, sofas, chairs, gas barbecue, and coffee table. The main feature is a beautiful ceramic tile swimming pool and heated Jacuzzi from which you can view the ocean and jungle environment. Surrounding the pool is a deck, outdoor furniture, lawn, and flower garden area with over 25 species of heliconias and flowering orchids.
The home is one residence within a 300 acre eco-community. Local biologists have cataloged twice as many species of birds in this forest than Manuel Antonio National Park, 40 km to the north. You will be amazed by the abundance of wildlife, both night and day. Toucans, monkeys, sloths, giant butterflies, eagles, humming birds, parrots, and lizards are some of the neighbors you can see on a daily basis.
Whales and Dolphins are seen all year from the house resting or playing just beyond the surf. The property also boasts its own 115 acre biological reserve comprised of hiking trails through untouched virgin forests. A walk under the forest canopy almost guarantees the sighting of all kinds of different species of organisms.
When you feel like heading to the ocean for a swim or a surf, the house boasts its own private access road to Guapil beach, a prestine 30 mile long beach (virtually deserted). This beach is a 20 minute walk or four minute ride in the car down the hill. The water is warm, inviting, and relatively safe for swimming, well worth frequent visits. This beach is great for surfing.
If you are looking for solitude and want to simply lay in a hammock and contemplate, take in the landscape, read a book, or take a cooling dip in the pool every hour or so, this is the perfect place. Please contact us and we will make arrangements for a care taker to prepare for your stay. We can help with your pre-trip needs (groceries, directions, etc.), provide the inside scoop on road travel, places to see, restaurants (there are several good restaurants and watering holes nearby), shopping, excursions, etc.
Driving in Costa Rica, although sometimes a challenge, just adds to the overall sense of adventure you get traveling in this wonderland. A four wheel drive automobile is a necessity here. Another suggestion is in lieu of a two hour drive from San Jose to Dominical, although a beautiful ride, it is recommended the visitor fly via Sansa from San Jose to Quepos (about a 25 minute flight). It is about a 30 to 40 minute ride on the coastal highway from Quepos to the house.

We had an incredible week at Casa Del Bosque! The house is very comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. The view of the Pacific is nothing short of stunning! Our group of 4 had planned to explore zip line tours, horse back riding and other activities while in Dominical. At the end of the day, we so enjoyed our time at Casa Del Bosque that we rarely left the property! Every day we saw numerous Toucans and other beautiful birds. The pool was refreshing by day and night. Late afternoons found us blending strawberry daiquiris and setting up our chairs poolside for "jungle TV". (incredible sunsets, monkeys moving through the trees, lizards, butterflies and Arnold the Sloth. Note, Sloth watching is best done with a blender of daiquiris and a comfortable chair. Each day we took a break from the pool to meander to the local markets. The fresh fish market, a short drive away, featured delicious fresh red snapper, mahi mahi, shrimp and tuna every day. The local food market had everything we needed (except dishwasher detergent). Everyone in our group loves to cook - so we had delicious meals every night at Casa Del Bosque! As the previous reviewer mentioned - the road to Casa Del Bosque is very steep, make sure you have a 4WD with a good clutch! We missed the Jesus Lizards, much to our disappointment! Be sure to go down to the private beach across the road from Casa Del Bosque. We were able to swim in the ocean a couple of days and the beach was spectacular! In 4 days we only saw a total of 5 other people on the beach. We are looking forward to returning to Costa Rica and Casa Del Bosque next year!!!!

This is an amazing property! After gunning the 4WD up a steep slope and barreling through a creek full of jesus lizards, we arrived at a serene, civilized home at what seemed like the top of the jungle. It's a truly unique experience to float in a lovely pool and watch White-faced capuchin monkeys roll through the trees and toucans chug past just overhead. The ocean and jungle views are incredible, the privacy is 100% complete, and the house is very well appointed. We cooked gourmet meals in the spacious, modern kitchen almost every night with supplies from the excellent fish and vegetable markets nearby (except for the nights when we went into Dominical for some surf town hangout flavor). The ocean beach is only a few minutes' drive, and has miles and miles of seemingly private sand and surf. Hacienda Baru, an incredible nature preserve, is only a few minutes farther, and we could easily have spent several full days there, though to be honest, the diversity of wildlife on display at the house was every bit as impressive. If you're looking for comfort, privacy, unbelievable vistas, and close encounters with wildlife, you'd have a hard time picking a better spot than Casa del Bosque.
Recommended for:Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with teenagers, families with young children.
