This was a good place to house our 7 adults and 2 children. There is space for 2-3 vehicles to park next to the back of the house via an alley. This is the best access point. On street parking is fine, just plan to climb stairs. The neighborhood is nice enough, crime seems low in the city, and it's an advantage being adjacent to North Chattanooga, the most happening/bustling place it seems. The interior is very nice, and there is enough division to allow for privacy among various parties. Noise from the TV room, dining room, and kitchen can be sealed from the rest of house via double doors. For your planning purposes, note that 2 of the bedrooms are accessed only through another bedroom, likewise 2 bathrooms with showers/bathtubs are accessible only through one bedroom and a 3rd bath/shower is accessed only through 2 bedrooms. This can work well for families to put boundaries on their kids. The location allows VERY quick access to riverfront attractions. Renters capable of walking mild hills will find it a suitable start location for walking around Chattanooga, a wonderful walking city. You really can't say you've visited Chattanooga without spending a lot of time on foot; there is enough of interest to keep you motivated to keep going and ignore any tiredness, and plenty of rest spots/attractions. The area is suffering through a drought, so keep that in mind when evaluating the landscaping. I'm a little surprised at the review of Jake lambasting the exterior....it fits the neighborhood, reflects the fact that it's a 90 yr old house, and is frankly the least important aspect of the rental experience as the interior is excellent. The owners were cordial and responsive. This is an economical way to stay in a wonderful city, so I recommend it and would stay there again.
Recommended for:Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The property as displayed did not reflect the property upon arrival. Landscaping was totally absent -- dead leaves were strewn across the lawn, and the "lawn" was basically a weed bed (front and back). The exterior showed peeling pain in several areas, and a new nest of carpenter bees eagerly chewed holes into the woodwork near the rear entrance. I was thoroughly embarrassed as my friends looked at me and asked "Is this the place?!" I grade the exterior a "D". The interior told a better story, fortunately. The main floor was clean and cozy, as were most of the upstairs bedrooms. I use the word "most" because some rooms showed clear evidence of water damage via cracking (and in some cases, crumbling) wall areas. In the master bath, the drain release to the jacuzzi bath was broken -- there was a pool of water in the tub that had been there for who knows how long. Additionally, window and door insulation and venting into the bathrooms was poor, as we discovered during a couple of cold nights. They advertised a gas grill. It was there -- filthy and devoid of any fuel canisters. I would never stay here again. Overpriced for the (lack of) quality and upkeep.
Owner response:1. This property is as displayed on the VRBO website. The house is well maintained and lovingly cared for. This guest was incorrect in most aspects of his critique as shown below. He is apparently unaffected by the charm of an older home. 2 Landscaping has been improved with flowerbeds since these guests stayed in March. This reviewer had extremely high expectations for a manicured lawn. The lawn is of fine, freshly mown grass, not weeds. 3. Exterior-the insignificant area of peeling paint has been pressure-washed. Unfortunately, we cannot keep harmless carpenter bees from deciding when to start building a home. They are a part of nature in the South. A pesticide company maintains the house. 4. The house was built in 1920. To preserve the historic feel, plaster walls were left intact instead of replacing with sheetrock. As a result, they may look ‘crumbling’, but are quite solid. 5. Our housekeepers have assured us that the Jacuzzi tub was sterilized and was in perfect working order before these guests arrived. 6. Window and door insulation. As mentioned before, the house was built in 1920. Instead of replacing the windows with vinyl ones, we chose to keep the original rope and weight type with that era’s wavy glass. 7. Gas grill has been replaced. Previous one worked fine. This house has been rented as a vacation house through VRBO for over 3 years and there are 2 guest books full of loving comments about guests’ time spent there. I will begin to copy these comments verbatim onto the VRBO review site There had not been a reason to post these until now. I truly think that this reviewer had never stayed in a 100-year old house.

We were in Chattanooga for our son's wedding. We had 8 adults and 4 babies staying there, and the house fit our needs perfectly. Great house to rent! The house was as described; it was very clean and very comfortable. We did have a few questions for the owner during the week and they were helpful. Would definitely consider renting it again if the need were to arise.

Mimi and Papa wanted the family of 15 to meet together for our annual time to build memories of Christmas. Thank you immensely for a beautiful home in which a wonderful Christmas holiday memory was made that will live in our hearts forever! Thank you for such a warm and charming place to meet in-with which this outing would not have been possible. We walked the bridge, went to the IMax and aquarium, visited the trains and had many special meals around the 'big' dining room table. Presents were opened, crafts were made and a precious time was had by all. May *** Crewdson continue to bless many other families for many more years to come just as it has us. Thank you again and may God bless you richly in 2009-2010. Many thanks.
