A charming place

Guest: Bryan K.
Date of Stay: 10/08/11 Review Submitted: 11/04/11

My wife and I spent a week here during the peak fall color season of '11. What a great little place. It's located within the city limits of Hendersonville but in a quiet neighborhood so it feels as if you're much further "out". It was more than adequate for the two of us as our base camp for making forays into the mountains. A VERY comfortable bed in the roomy master bedroom ensured us a great night's sleep. While having the only bathroom upstairs was a bit of a challenge, I was able to navigate the spiral stairs without too much problem, despite my arthritic knees. The well-equipped kitchen enabled us to fix several scratch dinners with no problem. During one rainy day, we just opened all the windows and doors and spent the day sitting in the comfortable living room, reading and listening to the gentle sounds of water dripping through the trees. A wonderful getaway...

Owner response:So glad you were able to enjoy Firefly Cabin! Thank you for your review.

Wonderful Getaway Cottage

Guest: M (NC)
Date of Stay: 09/02/11 Review Submitted: 09/05/11

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Firefly Cabin for Labor Day weekend 2011. It was the most amazing and relaxing vacation we have had in awhile. The cottage is very clean, which I personally loved. It also has all of the amenities you will need (towels, sheets, cooking utensils, etc). The cottage is central to tons of hiking and sightseeing, such as the Pisgah National Forest, Jump Off Rock, the Biltmore, and wineries. I can not say enough good things about this cabin! I recommend this cabin for a romantic getaway. We will surely be returning for a winter escape from the Charlotte city lights.

Homey and Provincial With All the Amenities

From the unique spiral staircase to the kind and considerate owner who actually added an amenity on for our stay upon request, this was a wonderful and very convenient place to stay. The quiet mornings with nothing but nature to wake one, with the gentle sounds of birds and other wildlife was so surprising, considering how close we were to the city and the multiple shops and sites! One of our favorite sites was of the starry night sky out the bathroom skylight and the moon's perfect visage out the window of the bathroom. An excellent choice.

Great Location but Lacked Comfort

Guest: Charlotte (Carthage, TN)
Date of Stay: 09/10/10 Review Submitted: 09/21/10

The Firefly Cabin is in a great location for all activities in & around Hendersonville. The landscaping is very nice & to be within 1 mile of downtown is fairly secluded. It is an older cabin which has been renovated but lacks any comfortable place to relax in the living room & the only bathroom is upstairs. If you are looking for convenience over comfort it is a great place. Charlotte

Excellent

We chose this property because it was located very near my son's summer camp and so many other outdoor adventures, as well - Pisgah Forest, the Cradle of Forestry, Chimney Rock, Lake Lure and the Great Smoky Mountains, to name a few. The home was exactly as pictured and described, and provided an affordable, clean, comfortable, wonderful base for my family as we explored the region. The property owner was helpful, communicative and responsive throughout our planning process; we appreciated that tremendously since the area was completely new to us. This is a great place, and I heartily recommend it. Thanks, Carole, for sharing it with us.

Cute Cabin, Handy Location

Date of Stay: 05/16/10 Review Submitted: 05/25/10

We just returned from a week's stay at the Firefly Cabin. This place was a great location--a quick jaunt to all the restaurants in downtown Hendersonville, yet quietly tucked away on a forested hillside location. The cabin was nicely equipped for cooking, and the little patio in the backyard proved a delightful place to have morning coffee, afternoon wine or tea, read a book, or bird watch. The gardens surrounding Firefly are very pretty. While we were there the peonies were in bloom. We liked having fresh mint to add to our ice tea growing just out the kitchen door. The bed was very comfortable and I loved the bathroom with the skylight for starlit bathing. I'd suggest adding a good reading lamp at the other end of the living room sofa, though. This was a happy stay for us. There's so much to do both in Hendersonville and in the immediate surroundings. We most enjoyed visiting Carl Sandberg's farm (Connemara) in nearby Flat Rock and our hikes in Pisgah Forest to waterfalls. What beauty! Dining in Hendersonville was terrific--a broad variety of well-priced eateries. Favorites were Champa (Thai & Japanese), Never Blue (small plates. We had great salads and Cuban sandwiches), Thai Spice (try the duck!) and their excellent Pad Thai, El Paso (a little past downtown--the La Bandera special is creative with three different sauces--red, green and white to honor the Mexican flag colors, and filled with beef, chicken and spinach. Very tasty. In Flat Rock, Hubba Hubba barbeque makes huge sandwiches of pulled pork or brisket--quite wonderful. And right next door, Flat Rock Bakery will make you a gourmet, wood-baked, artisan pizza with unusual toppings. The goat cheese one we had with fresh herbs and spinach was perfection. Be sure to take some of their scones home for your breakfast...both the chocolate and the coconut ones were sublime. They have a second location in Hendersonville that's very popular and buzzes with conversation. I heartily recommend Firefly Cabin and Hendersonvile for a enjoyable get-away. Let's hope the hiking we did will mitigate all the calories we consumed. But I regret not a one. Looking forward to our next visit. Main Street was great for strolling and shopping, too. Oh, you might want to drive to the top of Fifth St. (Laurel Park Blvd.) to Jumping Off Rock. Incredible long-range view of the mountains.

White Winter Christmas!

Guest: in_dmand (Greenville, SC)
Date of Stay: 12/17/09 Review Submitted: 12/23/09

My wife and I stayed at this cabin for 3 nights just before christmas. Carol (the owner) was very nice and accomodating. The cabin is in a nice setting with other houses around you, but you don't feel like it with the trees and the nice big back yard. It is also a plus that you are only a mile from downtown Hendersonville! I loved the wood work on the inside of the cabin - which was beautiful. While we were there, it snowed around a foot of snow! We had some trouble getting in and out of the driveway (with our 4 wheel drive vehicles) and ended up having to get tire cables before it got too bad, but other than that, it was fun and we really enjoyed the snow. It was beautiful! We also found everything we needed (grill, plenty of blankets, a snow shovel =)) We did experience a few things that were negative, however. The first night we got there (around 8pm) we found that the central oil heat was not working. I then gathered enough kindling (from outside) and ended up getting a fire going with the well-stocked firewood pile from the shed out back. The problem that we ran into however, was that some of the firewood was damp (still seemed "green") and would only stay coals and not get very hot. I told Carol that we had some family coming up w/ a newborn baby and we had to have it fixed. She said that she would call a heating guy and have him respond, or they would pay to have the family w/ the baby to stay in a local inn (which was very nice of her). Carol then told us that there were some space heaters available. We found 1 internal-oil space heater, and a little bathroom heater that we used that night until noon the next day when they heating guy came and fixed the heat - this was nice and I was very appreciative of Carol getting this fixed so fast. I then had to go purchase some dry firewood from home depot to be able to have a fire that weekend (which I was not reimbursed for). Carol told me that we would at least have a nice little background fire that wasn't necessary since we had the oil heat. The problem, however, was that we had chosen this cabin specifically because it was a log cabin, and had a fire place. I was able to supplement the dry wood with the "damp" wood to be able to have a fire all weekend. We paid for the cabin w/ the understanding that everything was in working order. It would have been nice to at least be reimbursed for the firewood. Other than this, we had a wonderful stay!"

Carole: Firefly Cabin has been great for us. It is in a fabulous location: close to town, stores, the co-op, and all necessary roads, yet when we are in the house, it seems like we are in a more remote location. You have a beautiful yard that we have picnicked in (on days when we just didn't feel like exploring far and away) and we have enjoyed walking and biking down to Laurel Park. I also took part in Skip's VW meet at the Sonic (I drive a vintage VW) and have met loads of super kind folks. Downtown Hendersonville has kept us busy on more than a few days and I feel like I may have won first prize for "the parent who buys the most geodes at the Mineral and Lapidary Museum". Thanks again for allowing me to rent Firefly Cabin. Peace, Lisa

Firefly cabin is in a perfect location. Just minutes from downtown Hendersonville, yet in a peaceful quite setting. The cabin itself is very comfortable and well decorated. The yard and gardens are nice and chairs were provided on the deck. We would love to stay here again on return trips to the Hendersonville area.
