Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 1997

The picture is of Sue and Bill in their Kitchen at Christmas time.

Sue is a retired Tennis Pro who now enjoys gardening and sharing her beautiful flower gardens with others. Her gardens were on the Gig Harbor Garden Tour in 2004.

When they lived in Connecticut, Sue ran a successful B&B for many years.

Bill owns a small business and enjoys landscaping the 13 acres behind their house. When he is not doing those activities, he can be found crabbing in front of their house.

Why the Owner Chose Gig Harbor

We bought the Beach House next door to the house we live in, because we want to protect our view of Mt. Rainier and because we enjoy sharing the view and the beach with others ... particularly new visitors to the Pacific NW. They cannot believe what a beautiful place we live and the abundance of wildlife.

    • Wonderful location and wonderful hosts. The home is perfect for a romantic getaway. We enjoyed walking the beach at low tide and sitting on the spacious deck. The home is well stocked with all you need for grilling or cooking. We will return again. Thanks Bill & Sue!

      Homeowner Response:
Date of Stay: August 2009 My husband and I stayed here 10 days, to be near our Tacoma-based daughter and family but still to have an away-from-it all Puget Sound experience and do our own day-trip adventuring from time to time. Loved it. We'll be back. Gorgeous waterfront view from the downstairs room and the large deck; very comfy king bed and skylights in the upstairs room. Easy to use kitchen. Books and homey touches all around. Sleep couch in downstairs main room has built-in air mattress--very comfy, our visiting son discovered. Possible second mattress upstairs on bedroom floor. Expansive view next door of owners' exquisite gardens, which one may visit. Owners Bill and Sue very welcoming and helpful. Had fun inviting grandkids to explore on the beach at low tide or pick blackberries; loved watching the tide--and two local seals--as the waters rose. Small store on island for necessities, Gig Harbor 15-ish minutes away, for very good restaurants and grocery shopping; you can reach the Tacoma mainland in about a half-hour; you can do Rainier in a day. All that most convenient, but in the end, we always found ourselves coming back to the Beach House with a happy sigh, "Ah, home." Sandy C. and David Wayne, PA

    • What a beautiful setting on Fox Island! I spent the month of September and October at the Beach House and can only say WOW. The house is beautiful with all the comforts of home with the most beautiful view--totally awesome. The neighbors (owners) made me welcome and could not have been nicer. If you enjoy mountain views, waterfront deck and beautiful surroundings, then this place is for you. What a perfect way to spend two months in the Fall. Thank you!

    • A perfect week long vacation. The house is very comfortable. The gardens around the house are beautiful. The back deck is a great place to relax and enjoy the wonderful weather and scenery. We even spotted dolphins, seals, eagles and geese during our stay. It's only a short trip to Tacoma and Seattle for sightseeing. This was an excellent location and we had a terrific time.

    • Fabulous – highly recommend for adults. Great place to stay. Highly recommend by a well-seasoned traveler. Not only was the king size bed very comfortable with tasteful bedding but also set up with high quality, high count sheets. In addition there were tons of very lush towels. Typical items that are not provided in most accommodations! Very quiet atmosphere with large windows over looking water on main floor and several skylights in bedroom loft which allow one to “sleep under the stars” if they prefer to not pull shades. Best highlight for this “A” type personality is the massive deck. With the expansive view, and quiet atmosphere, I actually found it easy to relax and pick up a book which is not a typical situation at any other accommodation as even with suites as you always “feel” the confines of the room or balcony. Would love to own this place. It is a gem!

    • My husband, 2 kids and I stayed in the beach house over Christmas 2007 and it was so serene and beautiful. It so made me want to move back to Washington. The owners were charming and helpful. We had my family of locals over for Christmas morning and it was the best one I can remember as an adult. If the pictures appeal to you, you will not be disappointed as photographs cannot do it justice.

    • Incredible, Just an amazing setting with the sunsets across the water, the early morning sunrise with Mt Rainier behind and afternoon walks on the beach. Total Peace, whether you're a beach walker or want to read you favorite book while listening to the lapping waves. Great weather, no humidity! Great relaxation, and tennis courts too! We wanted to stay longer!

    • My wife Jacque and I thouroughly enjoyed our stay. The setting is spectacular and the cottage very comfortable. The tennis and day hikes exercised our bodies; the sunsets and campfires invigorated our inner spirits. Thanks to our hosts for a great stay! We'll be back!
