Carol & Jack, A toasty Christmas at Surber Station: puzzles were puzzled, walks were walked, food was eaten, books were read and bee-bees were shot. We watched The Karate Kid (Peter for the first time) and our dogs, Dolly and Ivan, found some deer close by. We opened stockings by the gas fire--one present at a time, and some of us piloted a tiny helicopter. Surber Station is always a joy. Merry Christmas!

Thank you for having us in such a cozy environment! We enjoyed the great outdoors and love the history of the house. We had Thanksgiving dinner with relatives from Hickory, NC at Wilderness Adventure. My son and husband went hunting and came home to the couch!! Target shooting was great fun. We hope to return and enjoy your front porch swing again.

The four of us had such a great time going back in time at Olde Surber Station. It took us a little bit to adjust to the lack of TV and computer, but we agreed we needed this and it made our stay even more relaxing. We loved being surrounded by the history and antiques and understand your pride in this restoration. We also loved the cabin and the opportunity to go tubing down Craig Creek. May all who stay find as much enjoyment as we have. God Bless You.

Dear Carol and Jack, We all had a wonderful, relaxing week filled with fun and much laughter. My five grandchildren ages 7, 7, 6, 5 and 4 all want to come back again. They loved the creek, a campfire at night, and dinner in your beautiful dining room by candlelight. Bernie brought us a bag of peaches he had just picked which were a big hit with the children. Your home is inviting and beautiful and I leave with the hope of returning soon. Lots of happy memories.

Thank you for such a relaxing visit! This home is so beautiful, comfortable, and inviting. It was the perfect place for all 13 of us (and 2 furry friends) to get together and enjoy each other's company. We all loved playing in the creek by the cabin, tubing, and playing outside. We had 5 children with us from age 6 months to 4 years old--they all had a fantastic time. We learned how to skip rocks on the creek and make yummy s'mores at the campfire. We hope to visit again soon!

Dear Carol, Jack, Jeanie, Bernie, We love this place!! Thank you so much for sharing Surber Station with us. We enjoyed spending time with all of you in the parlor, on the porch, in the yard and in the creek. Each year we plan a special trip with our grandboys, and we decided this week was the best trip yet (7 years). Many Blessings on you all.

Having read about it and having watched your videos on the web, it was much as I expected. We fished, canoed, read, tubed down the suspension bridge, grilled, played in the water, had s'mores 'round the firepit, "chilled", relaxed, even napped on the back porch swing! The girls loved the sleeping alcove and our daughter wants to return next summer. Yesterday was our 27th anniversary and we enjoyed spending it here very much. Thank you again for the opportunity! Blessings!

Thank you Thank you Thank you! This place is awesome! I want to bring my mom here next time. She will thoroughly enjoy it! We took your advice and hiked Roaring Run and blazed our own trail some of the way. Also we took the canoes out and it snowed on us! Crazy but fun. It was great seeing the family enjoy w/out phone, computers or tv. God Bless You and your family.

Carol and Jack, Jeanie and Bernie, Thanks for a wonderful weekend. The old station was just what we needed to be by ourselves and recharge our battery. We don't want to leave. We love it up here. If we can ever do anything just let us know. P.S. What a wonderful old historical place.

Thank you so much for a very relaxing weekend. My daughter (18) and I just wanted a weekend together without all the distractions--this did the trick. We loved the home. It felt more like we were visiting friends or family than staying in a rental. Our dogs had a great time too enjoying the great outdoors.

Thank you so much for offering your home to us. I found Surber Station during the summer. Little did we know that our lives would soon change. Glen has been working in GA and this was a treat to have our 3 sons, their wives, and our new grandson together. The guys loved hunting and we did a lot of cooking and exploring. Thanks again!

We loved our stay at Olde Surber Station. It was filled to the brim with days playing in Craig's Creek, long bike rides, and exploring trails & nearby towns. The house feels like an old friend, relaxing and a pleasure to spend time with. We loved the house's history was preserved with a gentle restoration and didn't feel like a museum. It is a special house! Some of our favorite memories will be walking the swinging bridges, the mountain views, attending a small country church (with a big heart), riding to Clifton Forge and eating "the kitchen sink" at Vic's (12 scoops of ice cream and all the fixin's) and smores by a bonfire. ... Thanks Jack and Carol for the songs and the memories. We hope to see you again soon!

Thank you so much for the use of your cabin here at Surber Station. Our family has really enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the area. It was so nice to get together with our family at your creekside cabin. Surber Station has been so much fun for our family especially my boys who enjoyed the branch, hiking, biking, playing in the creek, and campfires at night. You certainly have a wonderful place for families to get together away from the hustle of busy work schedules, etc.

What a wonderful, warm home that just embraces its guests! As my family planned a trip to Asheville we wanted to stop midway so it would not be such a long haul with two two-year-olds. My daughter said, Mom, you have to see the house I found... I took one look and knew we had to come. The first thing that caught my eye was the stove--the same stove that I just took out of my mother's house 5 yrs ago (the house I grew up in-now mine) and so many things that remind us of home. We have 3 (now 4+) generations of things that we can't part with. So glad we came even though we got here late the first day and only had two days to stay. We felt at home the minute we arrived, late and tired. The girls had a great time in the water as did we all. It felt so good to rest in the peaceful surroundings. Truly hope we can come again, so much more we'd like to see and do. Thank you so much!

Surber is so lovely with snow! Despite the snow we got a number of great hikes in. We look forward to coming back in the summer for hiking, canoeing and kayaking. Our extended family ate lots of wonderful food--some of it prepared on your woodburning stove. We played games, played music (accordion, guitar, drums), read, and enjoyed having time pass by "train-o-clock" time. Our dogs Foo and Wu (shih tzus), Ivan (Siberian husky), and Scout (shepherd mix) had a wonderful time. We saw wild turkeys and deer. We didn't find any ghosts, although Antonia was expecting Catherine Heathcliff to scratch outside the curtained bed... Love the down mattress toppers!

Thank you all for a lovely two weeks! We have done a little of everything and loved it all. The ice cream supper in Oriskany was great and we really enjoyed hearing the Oriskany Strings. The wildlife tallies are: 1 camel, 5 donkeys, numerous geese, two cranes, 3 ducks, 9 deer, 4 turkeys (wild), 3 turkey vultures and "Belted Gelwhies" aka "Oreo cows"! See you again soon!

This was the best family vacation we have ever had! Surber Station is simply incredible. We felt like we were in heaven with all the lush green and country quiet around us. You have added so many fun extras to this place. We loved the canoes, the bikes, the firepit, and the old woodstove burning even in the kitchen. We enjoyed the trip back in time as we prepared meals the old-fashioned way and tried our hand at homemade bread. What fun!! We were pleased Surber Station is so family friendly. Our children loved exploring the water and backwoods. Thanks for the fond memories and for sharing your beautiful corner of the world.

Being a Botetourt native now transplanted to Quebec, Canada, it's been really special to come back to my roots. ____ and I left 1 foot of SNOW behind so you can imagine how the warm weather (up in the 80s some afternoons) and all these glorious spring flowers have uplifted our spirits... so much beauty all around!! Of course, your homeplace is a real gem and we've loved living here this week doing things we like the best: Day #1 - biking the old rail bed as far as we could. Day #2: canoeing with you two...the greatest of guides. Day #3: Hiking Roaring Run and the Iron Ore Trail. ... Wow, what more could one wish for?
