Air conditioning - cool! And great lamps on each side for reading in King bed.
Location: Taos, New Mexico, USA (3 Blocks to Historic Taos Plaza on Street with 3 Speed Bumps)
Accommodations: casita, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath (Sleeps 2)
Save money on this cozy adobe casita 3 blocks from historic Taos Plaza. It’s the perfect place for romance and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Minimum stay is TWO NIGHTS.
If you're drawn to Taos, you're probably a skier (it's excellent at nearby Taos Mountain) or you’re spiritual (our upstairs loft even has a meditation bench) or you’re into health and fitness (yoga mat and weights supplied and my friend will bring her massage table to soothe your muscles after skiing. Just $70 for a one-hour massage.)
Wood floors and ceilings in both rooms add a special charm and the hand-plastered walls in the bedroom are tinted a salmon color that makes your skin look fantastic. The bedroom was just recently constructed and has a comfortable king-sized bed and, of course, a reading lamp on each side.
The tall cottonwood trees in the backyard keep the casita cool, but if there’s a heat spell, just turn on the a/c. The backyard has a small wrought-iron table with umbrella and 2 chairs and is completely fenced in, but sorry, the enclosed hot tub in the backyard is for guests of Casa Montoya (VRBO #67696), the larger property in front that sleeps 2 to 4 people and features a large, fully-equipped kitchen, wood fireplace, king bed and TiVo.
This casita has a kitchenette in the living room with 2-burner gas cook top, under-counter refrigerator, deep stainless steel sink with water filter on the faucet, toaster-oven, electric kettle, microwave and coffee maker. If you don’t feel like cooking, there are excellent restaurants within walking distance.
Bring your laptop (we have wireless internet) and your cell phone (we don’t have a telephone). A gas stove in the living room has a thermostat so you can be as toasty as you want. The bedroom has baseboard electric heat and there's a separate electric heater in the bathroom. The bathroom is small (no tub) with Mexican tiles and hand-painted sink, and a Saltillo floor. Enjoy the thick L.L. Bean towels after your shower.
Considered 'sacred' by many of the residents, Taos Mountain is a world-class ski resort. Taos has a rich history and cultural heritage, with numerous galleries, museums and festivals you can walk to from Casita Montoya. You'll love this place!

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2004
Since I began writing and giving inspirational talks (about growing younger!), I turned over management of Casa Montoya and Casita Montoya to my wonderful, beautiful daughter Winton. Guests love her, especially because she's an artist and pays attention to detail and makes sure the place is super clean. And if she knows it's your birthday or anniversary, she'll have flowers waiting for you..
I'm not totally out of the picture - Winton still gives me chores to do, like buy butter or extra virgin olive oil or cereal for guests. All our guests remark that it's a well-stocked house and they LOVE Winton. I am so blessed.
Why the Owner Chose Taos
There's no place more magical or inspiring than Taos! I live 35 miles north of Taos in the boonies but I get to Taos at least once a week - usually to babysit Winton's two precious little girls and go to the supermarket.
The Unique Benefits of this casita
It's uniquely less expensive, though charming and comfortable. In the summer it's always cool, and toasty warm in winter! It's a hefty walk to the historic Plaza with lots of charming stores and galleries along the way. The fenced-in backyard has tall cottonwoods which keeps it shady for your dog.
